Introduction: The target of many experimental studies was to appraise the sealing ability of the root canal filling materials. No systematic reviews are available to appraise such condition. The aim of current review is to appraise the sealing ability of different root canal obturation techniques and sealers using fluid filtration method. Materials and Methods: Two automated databases (Google Scholar and PubMed using English-language literature) were used for this systematic review, using specific keywords together with inclusion & exclusion standards. In December 2018, such investigation was carried out & in March 2019, it was updated. Results: Search detected twelve studies that achieved the present inclusion and exclusion criteria. These studies illustrated different aspects of apical sealing, including: sealing ability, obturation techniques, sealer types, and updating studies in fluid filtration evaluation method. Conclusions: AH Plus had the best sealing ability over all sealers with different obturation techniques when evaluated by fluid filtration device and more investigations should be performed regarding that.

Primary failure of eruption (PFE) is a cessation of tooth eruption before emergence, despite the presence of clear eruption pathway. It is a rare disease with a prevalence of 0.06%. However, Decker et al showed that the genetic mutation in PTH1R gene is associated with primary failure of eruption. This case report is about a nine years old female patient who reported to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, with primary failure of eruption of right mandibular 1st permanent molar which was incidentally found on OPG, with a completely erupted left 1st permanent molar. Treatment commenced after one year of patient’s initial presentation with no progress in eruption. The affected tooth was marsupalized completely including the removal of the dental sac and coronal bone. After the follow up period of 4 months tooth eruption was evident. Further follow up of 8months revealed complete tooth eruption.

Introduction: In this scientific era of high technologic advancement, lots of progress has been made in the field of dentistry. LASER is one of the most important latest additions in the existing list of advanced equipment. In the last 3-decades laser have made a mark in the field of medicine as a useful alternative to conventional method of therapy as well as in dentistry too. Aims and Objectives: The aims and objectives of present study was to evaluate the wound healing after ErCr:YSGG laser gingivectomy over conventional scalpel gingivectomy. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients (20) with a total of Forty (40) quadrants of gingival enlargements were selected for external bevel gingivectomy. Patients divided into following groups: Group-A (Test Group) After phase1 therapy remaining suprabony pocket /enlarged gingiva removed by laser gingivectomy using Er,Cr:YSGG laser in 20 patients. Group-B (Control Group): After phase1 therapy remaining suprabony pocket/enlarged gingiva removed by conventional scalpel gingivectomy in 20 patients. Wound Healing were evaluated at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 28th day after gingivectomy. Results and Conclusion: All peroperative and postoperative records were compared between test & control groups.No statistically significant difference found in healing between laser gingivectomy and scalpel gingivectomy but to draw a definite conclusion regarding the wound healing efficacy of Er,Cr:YSGG lasers, further study involving higher number of samples are warranted.

The mandibular first molar tooth commonly has two well-defined roots. But, sometimes the appearance and number of roots show variations. The prevalence of supernumerary root associated with mandibular molar is less than 5% in Asian populations and the most common variant is the mandibular first molar with the presence of supernumerary roots distolingually.1 The present article reports a case in which drashvinivadane@gmail.com supplemental root is present mesiolingually associated with mandibular first molar. Hence, this is the rarest entity. This case was reported in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of M.A. Rangoonwala College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Pune and its extraction was performed.

Aim: To evaluate oral health awareness and hygiene practices among patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: A total of 500 patients in the age group of 15-35 years who had permanent dentition were selected using random sampling technique. A self-administered structured questionnaire including 15 multiple choice questions was given to them. The results were analysed using percentage. Results: The results of the study showed that nearly 62% patients did not follow the oral hygiene instructions, and despite being given instructions, most of them hesitated in practicing them consistently. An excellent finding was that all the patients used the toothbrush as an aid used to clean teeth. Conclusion: The knowledge and attitude of patients towards oral hygiene among orthodontic patients was minimal. Non-maintenance of oral health practices can be due to many factors. To name a few, may be ignorance and lack of motivation. Hence, intense oral hygiene programs should be established and should be inspected in the future.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of change in time, temperature (increase or decrease) on the degree of conversion and residual monomer release of the vertex heat cured acrylic resin. Material and Methods: The total number of samples (176) were divided into three main groups cured according to ADA and three curing cycles with modifications in time and temperature, degree of conversion and residual monomer properties were measured for all the samples. Results: Analyzed statistically by (Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and Duncan’s multiple range test) and showed that both changes in time and temperature showed significant changes in the degree of conversion, residual monomer. Conclusion: The rapid simplified and regular manufacturer’s instruction curing cycles showed the best results regarding the degree of conversion, residual monomer.

Aim of the study: Evaluation the flow of a new experimental modeling waxes. Materials and methods: synthesis of one hundred twenty (120) samples of different modeling waxes by mixing different percentages of local natural waxes (hard paraffin, soft paraffin and beeswax) and additives (starch, gum Arabic, rosin and Na-CMC (Na-carboxymethylcellulose)) using mold made from brass according to ADA specification No.24, then measure the flow of them by using vicat apparatus after making modification. Results: The experimental modeling wax (80% hard paraffin+20% soft paraffin) and (80% beeswax+20% soft paraffin) had the most nearest properties to control (Poly wax) at 40°and 45°C and experimental modeling wax (90% beeswax +10% Starch) to control (Major) at 40°C and experimental modeling waxes (80% beeswax+20% hard paraffin), (80% hard paraffin+15% soft paraffin+5% beeswax), (70% hard paraffin+20% soft paraffin+10% Beeswax) and (90% Beeswax+10% Starch) to control (Major) at 45°C. Conclusions: Flow of waxes showed increased with the increasing heating the temperature from 40°C to 45°C.

“Mucormycosis” is an opportunistic infection caused by fungi belonging to the Mucorales order, and was first described by “Paultauf” in 1885.3 It is the third invasive mycosis after candidiasis and aspergillosis and having high mortality of 70-100%, it accounts for 8.3–13% of all fungal infections.1 Immunocompromised host is typically get affected by mucormycosis but healthy patients with some form of trauma and patients who are having history of environmental exposure can develop infection as well.4 The present article reports a case of “right side maxillary mucormycosis” which was successfully managed surgically in M.A. Rangoonwala dental college, Pune.

The cephalometric norms of different ethnic and racial groups established in various studies show that normal measurements for one group are not necessarily normal for another group; each racial group must be treated according to its own characteristics. The materials used in this study consist of cephalometric radiographs of 50 subjects (23 males, 27 females) from Assamese ethnic background. The head films were traced on A4 size acetate matt paper using 3Hb pencil and Tweeds cephalometric analysis was done. Three angular parameters Frankfort mandibular plane angle (FMA), Frankfort Mandibular Incisal Angle (FMIA), Incisor mandibular plane angle (IMPA) for the Assamese population, were measured and found to be 25.4, 56.6 and 98.06 degree respectively. There was no clinical significant different between Assamese male and female but there is highly significant among the Assamese and Caucasian parametric values of Tweeds diagnostic triangle.

The dentist may encounter different types of complication during the surgical procedures either intraoperative or post operatively. Of these complications, the most common is postoperative hemorrhage. The hemorrhage can be classified into primary, intermediate and secondary hemorrhage. Normally after periodontal flap surgery, the bleeding will stop post operatively which is stopped by primary wound closure. This case discusses a rare complication after periodontal flap surgical procedure called as “currant jelly” or “liver clot” and its management.

Medication related osteonecrosis of jaw (MRONJ) is a rare iatrogenic disease. Cancer therapeutics is advancing exponentially and apart from a major emphasis on quality of life (QoL) in metastatic patients, now we are foreseeing increased longevity. This necessitates the rising need of betterment of supportive care modalities and looking into the rare complications of therapy. Bisphosphonates (BPs) and Denosumab, the anti-resorptive agents (ARAs) used commonly by medical oncologists in cancers with bone metastases and less commonly in prevention or treatment of osteoporosis, are implicated in the etiology of MRONJ. Many a times, it goes undetected, underdiagnosed and untreated due to lack of awareness, low index of suspicion and paucity of understanding of this disorder amongst medical oncology fraternity. A high index of suspicion is a cornerstone of timely diagnosis and therapeutic action. A regular collaboration between treating oncologist and dentist is of utmost importance.

Purpose: To evaluate the correlation between the palatal rugae pattern, face form and arch form among Indian population at Moradabad, India. Materials and Methods: Alginate impressions of maxillary arch was made and cast was poured immediately with type III dental stone. A sharp graphite pencil was used for marking outline of the rugae on the cast. A digital caliper was employed for measurement of length of palatal rugae. Palatal rugae were analysed in accordance with Thomas and Kotze classification. Arch form of these models was determined with using 3M Unite template. For assessment of the face form, the subjects were seated in an upright position on the operator chair and the camera was stabilized on a tripod. Then photographs of the frontal profile were taken. These photographs were used for the analysis of the face form. The data was subjected to one way analysis of variance test and Post Hoc test. Results: The average number of primary rugae (10.76%) were found to be more predominant than secondary (2.12%) and fragmentary rugae (1.54%). The most predominant shape of palatal rugae were curved (42.19%) followed by wavy (32.71%), straight (17.37%) and circular (0.92%). Based on the direction of the rugae, forward rugae (54.27%) were found more common followed by backward rugae (37.26%) and perpendicular rugae (0.55%). Base on the unification of rugae pattern, diverging rugae (4.55%) were found to be more common than the converging rugae (1.57%). The most common face form was ovoid (72.4) % followed by tapered (24.4%) and square (3.2%). The most prevalent arch form was ovoid (62.2%) seen followed by the tapered (26.0%) and square (4.8%) arch form. It was found that there was significant correlation between the face form and arch form among the study subjects (p<0.001). However, no correlation was found between the rugae pattern, face form and arch form (p>0.05). In term of arch form and face form, ovoid was the most common followed by tapered and square. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it was concluded that there was significant correlation between the face form and arch form among the study subjects. However, no correlation was found between the rugae pattern with face form and arch form.

The knowledge of variations in root canal morphology significantly affects the success of endodontic treatment. This article presents the endodontic management of a unique case of mandibular molar with an additional distolingual root with two canals and radix endomolaris which is quite uncommon. Mandibular molars can sometimes present a variation called radix endomolaris, wherein the tooth has an extra root attached to its lingual aspect. Accurate diagnosis and careful application of clinical endodontic skill can favorably alter the prognosis of treatment.
