The Fourth Crusade, began with call of the Pope Innocentius III to conquer Muslim-controlled Jerusalem, turned on the Byzantine Empire deviating from the original purpose as a result of intervention of Venice Doge Enrico Dandolo. Latins captured the Constantinople on 13 April 1204 and founded a kingdom. After the fall of the Constantinople successor states (The Empire of Nicaea and The Despotate of Epirus), founded by the aristocracy of the Byzantine, engaged in the fight against Latins. The Empire of Nicaea which one of these two states put an end to Latin domination in Constantinople in 1261 after fifty-seven years of struggle. In this article, relations between the Latin Empire of Constantinople and the Empire of Nicaea will be discussed.

After the conquest of the Morea by Mehmed II, this region was tranformed into an Ottoman province governed by Elvanoğlu Sinan Bey. Morea was subdivided into 17 districts. These districts were Balya Badra, Vostiça, Hulumiç, Vumero, Krevukor, Arkadya, Leondar, Korintos, Kalavrita, Minhalu, Bezenik, Kalandriça (Halandriça), Sandomiri (Sandomeri), Grebena (Grevena), Ayo İlia, Gardicko and Mistra. The great number of these districts has the same name as their center. The district of Patras was also named by the name of its center that is the town of Patras. Patras was known in the Ottoman period as Balya Badra. The aim of this article is to study the town of Patras, its population and economy between 1460 and 1715 years. This study is based on the Ottoman Archives sources, especially on the Ottoman survey register (tahrir) concerning the province of Morea. After the presentation of the sources fournishing rich data about Patras this article examined the population growth, the average of growth, the process of Turkicization, conversion and Islamization in the town. We draw the tables showing the names of the quarters of the town of Patras, the number of tax-payers and their confessions. In 1514/1515 there were one Muslim quarter, 20 Christian and 8 Jewish quarters, a Cipsy and a Christian müsellem community in Patras. In 1715 the town has 13 Christian and 4 Muslim quarters and a Jews community. The information about the agricultural production, the total amount of taxes and the jobs practicing by the inhabitants of the town of Patras was also given.

Beşeri özellikler; yeryüzünün iklim, yer şekilleri, hidrografya ve bitki örtüsü gibi fiziki unsurları ile karşılıklı ilişkiler içinde olup, birbirlerini etkilemekte ve şekillendirmektedirler. Her ne kadar günümüzde gelişen teknoloji, insan faaliyetleri üzerinde doğanın belirleyiciliğini kısmen azaltsa da Tire gibi doğal kaynaklan zengin ve tarımsal üretimin yoğun olduğu yerlerde doğal koşullar, birçok yönden etkisini sürdürmektedir. Tire ilçesinin kuzeyi ve güneyi arasında doğal çevre özellikleri açısından büyük farklar vardır. Bu farklılıklar, doğu- batı doğrultusundaki köyler arasında da görülmektedir. Nitekim ilçenin kuzey kesimini oluşturan Küçük Menderes Havzası’nın ova tabanı, ilçe sınırları içinde batıdan doğuya doğru fiziki coğrafya itibariyle pek fazla değişikliğe uğramazken, köyler arasında ise önemli farklılıkların (demografik, ekonomik ve kültürel vd) olduğu görülmektedir. Bu çalışmamda özellikle Tire ilçesinin batısı ve doğusunda yer alan köyler arasında arazi gözlemleri ile saptanan farklılıklar üzerinde durularak bu farklılıkları yaratan sebepler değerlendirilecektir.///// Characteristics of Human Geography of an area are closely interconnected with physical features of that area such as topography, hydrography, vegetation and climatology. Even though determinant role of physical characteristics on the human activity in urban areas has been reduced by the advancement of contemporary technologies it is still efficient in the rural where the agricultural production still predominate human activity. The huge difference on physical features in Tire province which can be observed on North-South direction also has affected the rural landscape on that direction. The main interesting point is that the rural landscape is also change in West-East direction where the change of physical features is not clearly visible. The main aim of this study is to explain the rural landscape change on West-East direction in the rural area of Tire province.

Aydın sancağının bugüne kadar bilinen en erken tarihli defteri tarafımdan Halil Beğ Defteri olarak adlandırılmak suretiyle yayımlanmış idi. Kitabın neşrinden sonra, Maliyeden Müdevver Defterler serisinde yer alan Biga Yaya defterinin arkasında defterin bir parçasının bulunduğu dikkatimizi çekti.Bu parça, bugüne kadar Aydın defterleri ile ilgili çalışmaların hiç birisinde tanımlanmış değildir. Halil Beğ defterini neşrederken sonuç kısmında ifade ettiğimiz gibi neşrettiğimiz kısım, defterin padişah haslarına tahsis edilmiş olan kısmı olmalıydı. Bu deftere ait olmak üzere yeni bulduğumuz parça ise sancakta yer alan timarlara dair bilgiler sunan yirmi bir sayfalık kısımdır. Bu kısım da kendi içerisinde bir bütünlük arz etmemekte, defterin farklı farklı yerlerinden kopan iki kısım bir araya getirilerek Biga Defteri’nin arkasına eklenmiştir.
