Objective. Reviewing the available literatura about outpatient total laparoscopic hysterectomy for benign gynecologic disease management. Materials and methods. A search was conducted in several databases including Ovid, Medline, Md Consult, Pubmed and Scielo, with the keywords outpatient, total, laparoscopic, hysterectomy, benign. The search was limited to the last 24 years. Results. Initially found 62 references of which 42 articles were selected most relevant to the objectives of the review. Conclusions. Outpatient total laparoscopic hysterectomy is a safe procedure in the treatment of benign gynecological disease, postoperative outpatient management of selected patients undergoing this surgery does not increase the risk of complications and may decrease hospital costs.

The Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a public health problem, is the first cause of maternal death in the developed countries and the third in developing countries. Objective: To identify the risk factors those determine the occurrence of the hypertensive disorders in pregnant women attending in a health institution of Santa Marta, Colombia, in the months of January 2011 to January 2012. Materials and Methods: descriptive study, quantitative retrospective, executed in a group of 51 pregnant patients who had hypertensive disorders. The collection techniques of information used were based on the documentary review (medical history) and the application of an inquest previously validated by experts. Through these methods found variables which allowed identifying the risk factors in the hypertensive disorders of pregnant women. Results: The age distribution was ubicated in the range 26-34 years old / 54.8%), risk factors present were: underweight (45.0%), not attending antenatal care (11.8%), multiparous (56.9%), socioeconomic status medium high (45.1), family history related hypertensive disorder of the mother (39.2%), medical history of urinary tract infections (83.3%) and alcohol consumption (58.8%). Conclusions: The risk factors of medical history of urinary tract infections occurred in a high percentage (83.3%), alcohol consumption, and family history multiparity, occupied an important place, while the significant level of assistance to prenatal care not prevent the appearance of hypertensive disorder.

Objective: To establish the sexual practices and the associated factors of the sexual behavior of school adolescents of Cartagena. Methodology: Transversal study, population 104.088 adolescent students of Secondary School of Public and private schools of Cartagena. Sample 1.035 adolescents, confidence level 95 %, and error 2 %. Sampling: multistage. Two scales of knowledge and attitudes were used, and the Francis scale. Results: The average age to start sexual relations was 14.1, 17% of the adolescents have had sexual relationships. To have sexual relations is associated significantly with the fact of being male, being in a higher grade, cigarette consumption, belonging to a social group, gender inequality, having a partner and considering him/her stable. Sexual relations are more common in public schools than in private schools. Conclusion: Out of 22 factors studied, eight factors were strongly associated with the start of sexual relations.

Given the large number of injuries and deaths caused by electricity, a review of the consequences that can happen after that event, given that electricity damages tissue by transforming into heat energy by destroying the integrity of the cell membrane. The clinical case is a 31 years old pacient who seven years ago received an electric shock of 440 volts, and their evolution has presented various multiorgan complications: Neuropathic pain Peripheral neuropathy type, structural alteration of the visual sensory afferent pathway, among others.

Objective: To determine the spiritual welfare of patients with chronic diseases in a home care institution. Methodology: descriptive, transversal study. The sample was represented by 106 patients with chronic diseases, which was applied to the spiritual well-being scale Jarel, which valued dimensions: Faith and beliefs, life / self-reliance and satisfaction / life. Results: The results showed that 53% of patients were male, predominantly patients with 60 years or more(80%), and the presence of chronic diseases, the most common cerebro-vascular diseases, which caused disability. It showed that 100% of them believe in a higher power, pray and share responsibility for their lives with their families and are not satisfied with their lives, since chronicity itself changes the life of the patient and his family. Conclusions: The respondents have medium spiritual wellness, because they perceive the role fatigue caregiver. Strengthen their because they believe in God, they feel that their family are supportive, and the disease produces disability causes them little satisfaction to life

This study was based on identifying the presence of child abuse and sexual abuse in the home of teenage students, enrolled for 2011 in three public schools in tier one of the city of Santa Marta - Magdalena. The sample consisted of 230 participants, aged between 14 and 16 years, who were evaluated through ISPCAN, children’s version / as (ICAST-C). The results indicate the existence of physical abuse (13%), psychological (29%) and sexual abuse (32%). Moreover, it was found that female scored higher percentage of physical abuse and sexual abuse, while males have a higher rate of psychological abuse. It is concluded that one in three students has been the subject of study types of abuse.

Introduction: Drug adherence is an increasingly important phenomenon for health workers; it is worrying that the lack of adherence causes difficulty in the recovery of the sick person, decreases quality of life and increases costs of health services. Objective: To describe the pharmacological adherence of the person with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 109 adults undergoing hemodialysis, to whom were made a home visits, in which they applied the Morisky-Green test, test battle and counting was performed to calculate drug percentage of compliance (PC). Results: 55% of patients stop taking the medication when not feeling well, 15% forget to take while making 85% on time, and do not stop if they are safe. Furthermore it was established that pharmacological presentation of some drugs could influence decision thereof. Conclusions: taking many medications can cause tiredness and fatigue and changes the story of their lives. The multidisciplinary team should promote self-care and adaptation as a strategy to improve drug adherence.

Early repolarization is a common finding characterized by ST segment elevation, QRS slurring end in 2 or more contiguous electrocardiographic derivative. For years he was considered benign, but at present observations of cases, clinical and electrophysiological studies suggest a critical role in the pathogenesis of idiopathic ventricular fibrillation. Population studies established association between this patent and risk of death from arrhythmic events. Sudden cardiac death is a public health problem, annually causes about 350,000 deaths in America. Many cases are associated with ventricular arrhythmias, which are 6-14% in patients without structural heart disease and is determined by genetic abnormalities that affect ion channels or idiopathic as early repolarization syndrome and idiopathic ventricular fibrillation that generate 10% of these deaths. The review addresses the pathophysiology of RP, in order to understand the mechanisms by which it is associated with malignant arrhythmias. In addition, to differentiate this pattern of others who also produce ST elevation and clarify the approach and current recommendations for diagnosis and management.

Benign tumors are growths that can occur in any part of the oral cavity they can ulcerate, bleed, or interfere with chewing or the adhesion of dental prostheses, also show a slow development, a preserved mucosal surface and compression of adjacent structures. Odontogenic fibroma is a fairly common tumor tissue characterized by fibrous connective tissue cells, this can occur at any stage of life, has no sex predilection an occurs more in the mandible than the maxilla. The aim of this paper is to describe a case of this tumor, a brief review of the literature, analyze their clinical and histological features and therapeutic approach to take.

This is a study of descriptivo-correlacional type and transversal design aims to main found gender differences in the characteristics of emotional intelligence (EI) on a sample of college students of a public institution of higher education in Santa Marta, Colombia, through the application of the Traid goal Mood-TMMS-24 Fernández-Berrocal and Extremera1 . The study counted with the participation of 32 students of whom 16 belong to the psychology programme and 16 to the program of business administration at ages 17 to 30 years, distributed in 22 women and 10 men. Although the results suggest that there are no significant differences between the status of the components of IE and gender, is recommended replication of a similar study taking into account that as a pilot test the generalization

When we talk about physical trauma, we refer to a type of injury or wound that directly affects the body at the somatic level. The physical trauma can be caused both by blows and by sharp wounds, that is to say, by external elements that do not penetrate in the organism as for external elements that yes do it, the initial assistance with facial polytraumatism must approach the patient from a scheme with a clear and sequential methodology, which allows an effective resuscitation and a diagnosis and treatment of all the present injuries on order of importance. In the following work it proposes to announce the processes and / or guidelines that must be born in mind to the moment to stabilize the patient with severe traumatism to level of face during the immediate attention in the area of hospitable urgencies by means of a bibliographical review, demonstrating the importance of the interdisciplinary managing for the clinical managing of this type of patients.

In Colombia the species Bothrops asper and Bothrops atrox are responsible for 70 to 90% of the snakebite accidents. Around 60% of these injuries are initially treated by traditional healers; they’re used medicinal plants in different preparations. This study evaluated the inhibitory capacity in five vegetables species against proteolytic and hemolytic indirect effect induced by the venom of B. asper in vitro. The species that were selected according to their use in traditional medicine by the rural communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta are: Aristolochia maxima Cissampelospareira, Equisetum bogotense, Mucunacfpruriens and Austroeupatoriuminulaefolium. E. bogotense showed the highest percentage of inhibition in opposition to the activity of Phospholipases A2 (42.29%), also the higher precipitation of proteins in a range of molecular weights from 28.2 to 94.43 KDa. Fractionating the extract of E. bogotense we obtained five fractions, which showed an inhibition percentage from 36.6 ± 1.07 to 46.1± 13.6. Additionally, we detected some nucleus by qualitative methods, principally alkaloids, steroids and/or triterpenes, tannins, coumarins and leucoanthocyanidins. Syringomyelia is a disorder that involves the formation of one o more cysts in the spinal cord, usually begin in the cervical region and extend to the thoracic region or to the brain stem. The etiology is multifactorial and usually is secondarily to Arnold-Chiari malformation, idiopathic causes and trauma. These clinical manifestation are various with a progressive chronic course. The following case report is about a woman of 47 years old, whit diagnosis of cervico-thoracic syringomyelia, whose initial manifestation was unusual, acute and progressive; the patient requires Surgical Procedures with good results. In this case discussed about the clinical atypical presentation and the therapeutic surgical measures used in this case.

School bullying is a practice of long and constant abuse physical, psychological and emotional of a person or group to a couple at a disadvantage and powerlessness. Bullying is a practice of violence seen in Colombians schools, but with little study and little intervention. The measurement and intervention models designed mostly come from different cultural backgrounds to our country and curricular interventions, social skills and multicomponent individual have proven effective in their countries of origin, but need to be adjusted to national context and region, suggesting the need to use a contemporary and own in the study of a problem that for years has affected children and young people becoming habitual behavior in schools in the country

The coming of the new techniques in cataracts surgery has revolutionized ophthalmologic surgery in the world and in our country; Sancti Spíritus has not been exempt. In the year 2002 extra capsular surgery of the crystalline lens with implant of the intraocular lens began to be developed. A descriptive retrospective study was made with longitudinal projection in the phthalmology consultation; from January 1st to December 31st, 2009 with the objective of describing the behaviour of the technique. The population was integrated by 600 patients and the sample by 237 older than 60 years that fulfilled the discriminating criteria. The results showed that the patients prevailing were males between 75 and 79 years, being hypertension and diabetes mellitus the most frequent general illnesses, and glaucoma and macular degeneration the associated ocular illnesses. The most frequent complications were the operculum and the opacity of the posterior capsule. With this study it was determined that elder patients in Cabaiguán have a high prevalence of suffering from cataracts, requiring immediate intervention because this pathology causes reversible blindness. Inclusion criteria: 60 years old or elder cataracts surgery patients from both sexes, in which extra capsular surgery of the crystalline lens, with implant of the intraocular lens or not, was used. Exclusion criteria: Younger than 60 years old surgery patients in which other techniques were used.

Suicide is a public health problem that every day is in progress worldwide, and Colombia, as the city of Santa Marta, are no strangers to this phenomenon, so that the objective was to study the epidemiology of the same during the period years between 2004 and 2010. Data were obtained from the information provided by the Colombian Institute of Forensic Medicine and Science, North Coast Regional. It was found that 112 people consummated suicide during the seven years studied. The average number of suicides for the period was 16 years, 16 people committed suicide in female (15.7%) and 84.3% for men. The age at which most committed suicide was between 20 and 34 years with a prevalence of 44.6%, the most common method was hanging at 64%, equivalent to 72 cases, the level of schooling that best presented was who had completed full secondary (15.1%), the most prevalent marital status was to be presented with a 29.4% single. On Sunday is where most suicides occur un18.8% of the total in March with 13.4%. We conclude that the suicide rate has been increasing over the past two years, from a rate of 2.4 in 2009 to 4.0 in 2010 per 100 inhabitants.

Distraction osteogenesis is a surgical technique which is used for the reconstruction of the alveolar ridge, to increase amounts of bone and soft tissue due to the gradual displacement of bone fractures surgically performed. Because distraction techniques generate new bone avoids the morbidity of moving grafts, this technique has many advantages over other types of treatment carried out in such bone deformities, which by this article were view literature demonstrate that the treatment issue when it comes to reducing bone deformity.

The importance of endodontic treatment is to achieve a complete filling and sealing of the root canal to prevent the transport of contaminants to and from root canal, with materials compatible with the surrounding tissues. Occasionally a situation may arise in which the purpose of the maintenance of working length is compromised such as overenlargement. This situation allows the extrusion of filling materials, mainly sealer cements, causing post treatment complications such as inflammatory reactions, injury to adjacent structures (orbital pain, inferior alveolar nerve injury, headache, etc.), and infections in the sinuses caused by aspergillosis. AH Plus cement seems to show favorable results. In cases of extrusion of small amounts to the periapical space, due to the addition of epoxy amines to its composition, there is a decrease in the release of toxins, and according to some authors, the possible cytotoxic effects cease once the material hardens. We conducted a longitudinal, descriptive study, in order to describe the prevalence of the cervical cytological abnormalities in patients treated at the CAP of the Esperanza, Cartagena – Colombia, which belong to a low socioeconomic status and are in the subsidized regime group. Tere were a total of 1131 patients, but 863 were chosen according to the inclusión and exclusión criteria, aged between 25 and 65 years old. The average age was 39,2 years, the largest number of patiens was between 25 – 44 years, 863 cytology were made, an amount of 36 (4,17%) had pathological reports showing citological abnormalities, 33,33% low grade LIE, 19,44% high grade LIE and 47,22% ASCUS. The reported prevalence was 4,17%, lower compared to other studies, because their showed a more elevated prevalence of ASCUS. The cognitive - behavioral therapy (CBT) has become one of the strategies for excellence in non-pharmacological treatment of depression. Through this study provided an overview of the theorists core techniques of CBT exposed through last 50 years and have been implemented for addressing the mental disorder. Similarly, it is intended to inform the reader about the latest innovations and adaptations of this model of psychotherapy. The applicability of the Programming Neuro-linguistics is for many, myth question, pseudo-sciences or methodological incompatibility between her and the Psychology. CONTEXT: The birth of a child is an event of vital importance, and causes changes generated crisis, changing daily routines of both the parents and family, this event requires an array of strategies to help cope with the stress generated by the situation lived, these strategies are known as coping, which is nothing more than a response to change and the production of new behaviors that allow the family to face the various problems experienced. Preterm birth a child is one of the main generators of crisis, stress and family tensions because the newborn does not meet the full weeks in the womb, has immature organs and systems and therefore need special care. There are different characteristics that families have (age, low education, poor social support, family dysfunction, low income etc.) Determine or influence the way each family face the situation of prematurity of his son. OBJECTIVE: determine the association between biological, familiar, social conditions and family coping of parents before the birth of a preterm infant. METHODS: cross_sectional study conducted during of 2009 ; the population consisted of 1,980 parents of preterm infants in intensive care units in the city of Cartagena, and the sample consisted of 277 parents. 95% confidence, an error of 5% and a prevalence of 50% coping. Parents were selected by cluster sampling. .the instruments were used as the Family APGAR, sociodemographic record, and F-COPES; to estimate the association between the variables using the Stata 9.2. RESULTS: 85.9% of parents of preterm infant have an effective coping, among the variables significantly associated with family coping with the birth of a preterm infant were found marital status(OR 0.342) (CI: 0.120 to 0.976) and income economic (OR 3.905) (CI: 1.682 to 9.068) CONCLUSIONS: found a significant association between social conditions such as marital status and income family coping with the parents before the birth of a preterm infant. Child Psychopathology examines the infant in the health-disease process, and recognizes the need for a correct holistic and contextualized psycho diagnostic that considers the individual social situation of development (SSD), and that gets dynamics, as the content and form of the disorder symptoms adaptation (DSA), one of the most prevalent in children and adolescents. This research intends to conduct a case study to a school child who has an adaptation disorder. It is based on a qualitative methodology with the application of techniques and the further elaboration of the psychological report defining the approach to be followed and specific recommendations aimed at the various socializing agents that make up the school's SSD. It was found that the most affected areas were school and family, at they same time they are considered resilient contexts , the child has an adaptation disorder with symptoms of anxiety such as restlessness, sleep disturbances, poor concentration of the attention , aggression with other kids, regressive conduct, etc. The approach to be followed in this case previously directs the attenuation of symptoms of anxiety as to get a positive psychotherapy, and in turn offers specific recommendations to family and school areas. Cross-sectional study was conducted in the city of Santa Marta to describe the epidemiological association between particulate matter (PM10) and weather conditions and their effects on respiratory diseases in children under age 14 during 2008 and 2009. There was a weak but significant association in both years in relation to the diagnosis of respiratory diseases of the upper airway and winter. Specifically in 2008, it was observed epidemiological association with statistical significance (p <0.05) to present any acute and chronic respiratory symptoms and their relationship to be less than 9 years and winter, but in 2009 this epidemiological association was minor and no statistical significance (p> 0.05). For both years there was not a significant risk (p> 0.05) to present acute or chronic respiratory symptoms and living in an exposed area, but there was no significant epidemiological association of acute respiratory symptoms and living in exposed area. This study allowed knowing the behavior of respiratory diseases in Santa Marta, where there was a trend in the increase in diagnoses of infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, especially during the winter.
