It is examined if the relationship empirically demonstrated between health and face-to-face social interactions is confirmed when it is virtual. The objective is to know if the perception of psychological well-being and receiving social support would explain the frequency of participation in virtual social networks (VSN). An ex-post-facto design was applied to a sample of 510 university Internet users (age, M = 22.89, SD = 5.67, 78.9% women). The level of psychological well-being (Spanish adaptation of the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale), social support (Family Social Support and Friends questionnaire - AFA) and the frequency of use of VSN are evaluated. To determine the relationships between the variables, correlation and hierarchical regression analyzes were carried out. The relative contribution of the perception of psychological well-being and of obtaining social support in the frequency of VSN use is confirmed, controlling the influences of age and gender. Specifically, the perception of having less ability to dominate the social environment and to obtain social support for friendships through VSN explains and allows predicting the increase in the frequency of use of such networks.

In the present study we seek to determine the attitude of nurses towards a person’s death process in the intensive care unit. A descriptive, non-probabilistic study was carried out, using convenience sampling of 30 nursing professionalsassigned to a second level institution in the state of Durango, Mexico. The questionnaire on Attitudes to Death (CAM), based on the review of Death Attitudes and Self-Reported Health - Relevant Behaviors, was used in a Cuban version. It includes 33 reactants, grouped in six sub-scales for analysis: avoidance, acceptance, fear, passage, departure and professional perspective. The findings allowed to conclude that the professional nursing is prepared to take care of life, considering that they accept death as an inevitable fact. Nevertheless, from the professional perspective of the nurse practitioner, death is considered as a relief, taking into account the workload experienced by the relatives in the process of death.

This article presents part of the results of the research project “Strategies for Increasing Competitiveness through the Conformation of the Health Tourism Cluster in the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga -AMB”, required to qualify for the Master’s degree in Business Development of the Faculty of Business Sciences of Universidad del Magdalena. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the progress of the autonomous conformation of the health tourism cluster in Colombia. In this regard, we assess, in a methodological and rigorous way, the prospects of the health tourism market, from bibliographic review in English and Spanish –of a public, private and scientific institutional nature– by business initiative, as well as from studies carried out in regions of Colombia and worldwide, that have implemented this line as a development option by exploiting surrounding competitive advantages. Among the obtained results, the angles or dimensions of this phenomenon, in the economic and social context, become clear. In addition, the tourism patterns are highlighted, as well as the reasons why progress has been made in the conformation of the different clusters at a national level. This allowed deep insights into the issue, based on the interest multisectoral vision.

It is well established that vital stressors during childhood, particularly sexual abuse, are associated with anxiety disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder. However, there is less information about the relationship between different kinds of abuse and the current category of anxiety disorders proposed by the American Psychiatric Association. The objective of this study was to perform a meta-review of the association between vital stressors during infancy (emotional, physical and sexual abuse and neglect) and anxiety disorders (panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder). It was conducted a meta-review of systematic reviews and meta-analyzes that analyzed the association between vital stressors during childhood and anxiety disorders, published in Medline between January 2000 and June 2016. The quality of the reviews was assessed with the AMSTAR questionnaire. Three studies that showed that vital stressors during childhood and anxiety disorders were significantly associated (odds ratios (OR) between 2.0 and 3.0). It is concluded that vital stressors during childhood increase the risk of anxiety disorders. New interventions are needed to prevent child maltreatment and associated morbidity.

The working conditions in intensive care units (ICUs) are related to a high risk of burnout. In this study we aim to measure the influence of rumination and social support on burnout and psychological well-being in members of the staff of an ICU in a reference hospital in Chile. We proposed a model showing an indirect influence of brooding mediated by social support and burnout on the psychological well-being. We surveyed one hundred and thirty six employees (81.9% of the total) of ages 23 to 59 years of age. This sample consisted of 85.3% women and 14.7% men. We used the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the Ryff Scales of Psychological Well-Being (PWB), Zimet’s Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the Ruminative Responses Scale by Treynor et al (RRS). Results indicated direct relations between social support and well-being, and between brooding and burnout. They also indicated inverse relations between social support and burnout, and between brooding and well-being. The mediation model showed adequate fitting indices.

Increase in information about the prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-AIDS) infection has not changed the attitudes towards HIV-AIDS. For this reason, the HIV / AIDS-65 questionnaire was designed to quantify knowledge and attitudes towards infection. The psychometric performance of this instrument has not been lately reviewed. The objective of the study was to analyze the performance of the dimensions that quantify attitudes towards HIV-AIDS. A validation study was designed in 190 students of psychology from two Colombian schools. The students were between 18 and 30 years old, mean = 21.7 (SD = 3.1); 72.1% women and 27.9% men. The students completed the 25 items of the dimensions of HIV-AIDS-65 attitudes (positive attitudes, negative attitudes, attitude towards the condom, susceptibility and self-efficacy). The psychometric performance was assessed by exploratory factor analysis (AFE) and confirmatory (AFC), parallel analysis (ANP), and internal consistency. The AFE, AFC and ANP showed a poor dimensionality. The internal consistency was very low (Cronbach and McDonald <0.70) for negative attitudes, attitude towards the condom and susceptibility and excessively high (Cronbach and McDonald> 0.95) for positive attitudes and self-efficacy. It is concluded that in students of psychology the dimensions of attitudes of HIV-AIDS-65 present are inadequate.

In this article the psychological experience and needs shown in the discourse of women diagnosed with breast cancer in a psychological group intervention were analyzed. The sessions are transcribed and a discourse analysis is performed, selecting the most prevailing topics. The main psychological difficulties perceived by the participantsare the following: body identity change, sexuality changes, new quality of interpersonal relationships, implications of positive thinking culture, fear of recurrence, the relationship with the hospital staff, and change after diagnosis. The aspects that the group considered helpful are also addressed, i.e. feeling understood by the others, seeing the rest of participants as coping models, changing their relationship with the illness. Several clinical implications are highlighted in order to improve a comprehensive care.

This study aimed at analyzing the scientific information of the Duazary Journal, between 2012 and 2016. To this end, a descriptive and cross-sectional bibliometric analysis was performed, including 98 published papers, based on the following indexes: paper typology, number of papers per year, institutional affiliation, collaboration index, topic, citations, and language. The results show that international contributions have increased since 2014 and papers classified in the areas of health sciences and clinical medicine (95%) predominate. Likewise, it was found that more than 50% of the total manuscripts correspond to original research papers, written mostly in Spanish. Therefore, increasing the number of papers published in English constitutes an opportunity for the journal improvement.

Dyslipidemia and obesity are modifiable risk factors of cardiovascular risk. To determine the prevalence of overweight,obesity and dyslipidemia in health care workers. Cross-sectional study was conducted. It carried out a sampling random with affixation proportional. The sample size was 163 health care workers. Body mass index and waist circumference anthropometric technique was evaluated. Considered high total cholesterol > 200 mg/dl, high LDL-C>100 mg/dl, low HDL-C (men HDL-C<40 mg/dL and women HDL-C<50 mg/dl), and triglycerides≥ 150 md/d. The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia was 30.1%, 40.5% triglycerides, 69.3% low HDL-C, high LDL-C 55.2%, and global dyslipidemia was 87.7%. The median triglycerides (p = 0.034) and LDL-C was higher in males than in females (p=0.038). The dyslipidemia increased as age increased in LDL-C (p=0.015). Dyslipidemia, overweight,obesity and obesity abdominal were higher in workers women. The prevalence of overweight was 41.1%, 25.8% obesity and the obesity abdominal was 37.5%. The prevalence of dyslipidemia global was high and more than half of health workers were overweight or obese and one-third had abdominal obesity

Sexually transmitted infections are an epidemiologic and clinical problem of first order in all the world by effect that can produce and their economic consequences. Adolescents and young are in most risk to have these diseases byfacts such as premature sexual relationships and promiscuity. The objective of this investigation was to determine risk behaviors and level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections in students’ community. Correlational cross-sectional study. A questionnaire was applied to determine risk behaviors and level of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections to 128 students’ community. In this study was found 78.1% of students had sexual relationships. 55% of students drink alcohol before a sexual relationship. By means of statistical analysis was found association between sexually transmitted infections and drug use (p=0.042). Students had a regular level of knowledge. It not was found association between risk behaviors and level of knowledge (p>0.05). Results found in this investigation demonstrate the necessity of making activities for prevention of these infections and motivating changes of behaviors for reducing risk of contagion of these infections.

This is an empirical-analytic correlational research whose intent is to find the relationship between levels of self-esteem and hopelessness in adolescents in an educational institution of Quindío-Colombia. The Beck Hopelessness Scale and the Self-Esteem Scale Rosenberg were applied. It was found that the risk of suicide or grade of hopelessness “none or minimal” is 59.4%, “mild” 26.8%, “moderate” 12.9% and “high” 0.9%. The type of suicide risk is minimal in women 33.5% and high 0.9 %, while in the men is minimal 29.5 %, mild 17 %, and moderate 7.1%. Expressing as conclusion that hopelessness is increase for motivational and cognitive factors that shape suicidal ideation and raise the risk of suicide. Low self-esteem is not a consistent factor in suicidal ideation.

It is aimed to review the literature regarding the clinical evaluation of female urinary incontinence in gynecologic consultation. An exploration of the literature in several different electronic databases, books printed texts in indexed journals and recognized scientific societies, to identify relevant literature was trying to find the best evidence in the clinical assessment of urine leakage in gynecological consultation. They are not allowing sufficient scientific documents suggest which is the most specific clinical examination in the assessment of incontinence in gynecologic consultation, but the correlation of findings from each other, facilitates the same. The literature shows that the methods of clinical evaluation of urinary incontinence in gynecologic consultation play an important role in the correct diagnosis of patients and proper treatment thereof; therefore, it is necessary to turn our eyes to the appropriate clinical evaluation in gynecological consultation.

The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) measures quality of life in menopausal women. It compounds of three dimensions that assess somatic, psychological and urogenital menopausal-related symptoms. However, the validity of the scales may vary according to population characteristics, and there are no validations to date of MRS in American indigenous population. To assess the validity of MRS in Indigenous Colombian women during menopause. A research was done a sample of 914 indigenous women, 507 postmenopausal women and 407 premenopausal. They were between 40-49 years-old, with a mean age of 59.3 ± 5.9years. MRS was applied to all enrolled women. Cronbach’s alpha was applied for the original proposed dimensions, and the dimensions from the results of factor analysis and maximum likelihood methods. A Promax rotation was applied to analysis. MRS showed a Cronbach’s alpha: 0.86. The somatic dimension: 0.63, the psychological dimension: 0.75, and urogenital: 0.84. Score was greater in postmenopausal compared to premenopausal, 14.4 (±SD, 6.4) versus 8.4 (±SD, 5.9) (P<0.001). The factor analysis showed two dimensions. The first dimension included items 1,7,8,9,10,11; and accounted for 39.9% of variance. The second dimension included items 2,3,4,5,6; explaining 14.2% of variance. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.86 for the first dimension and 0.81 for the second dimension. MRS showed high internal consistency and adequate nomological validity. The factor analysis resulted in two dimensions. These results evidence the need to better assess the validity of the instruments in different populations.

In the present study views on contraception and the relationship between the variable gender study and students of the faculty of humanities at the University of Magdalena are determined. This article would provide data on sexual risk behaviors of students, which can be useful for the prevention of this problem, thus a descriptive correlational study was conducted using purposive sampling, with a participation of 120 students. The findings support the conclusion that students pose positive reviews and increased use of condoms and pills also have negative opinions of abstinence, intrauterine devices and implants. On the other hand, there is no relationship between gender and views on contraception, also the opinion of students does not differ according to the program.

The aim of research was to describe and analyze the financial burden of family care of the chronically ill Guatemala. It was developed throught a descriptive, cross-sectional study that was development in 2014 as part of multicenter study. The Instruments “GCPC-UN- D” were used to characterize the subjects and the Survey Financial cost of chronic disease care, to identify the real effective household consumption. The financial burden attributable to family care was determined under the CARACOLA methodology, which quantifies the level of the burden and financial cost of it and guides describe the attributes of household consumption associates with patient care. The results revealed that own health costs, followed by transport, housing communications and food are those that together and in that order produce family financial burden of care of the chronically ill in a group of families in Guatemala. It concludes that family group in Guatemala has a high financial burden attributable to caring for a person with chronic disease. It produces a significant impact on family stability and even more difficult health experience. Is a clear need for public policy include how to consider and mitigate the costs of care.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the major public health issues in the world, because of its disabling, and costly condition. It is considered a multifactorial disorder, grouped into modifiable and non-modifiable causes. To identify risk factors for cardiovascular disease in employees of a foundation in Cartagena. Information was collected on 50 employees of the Foundation under study, following the WHO recommended procedure, which requires sociodemographic information, and physical and biochemical measurements. The results are presented using descriptive statistics. 50 surveys were conducted, with a response rate of 99.8%. Study participants have an average age of 30.48 years old, regularly consume alcohol (84%) and vegetable 4.54 days per week, low level of physical activity (76%); 50% overweight and 12% grade 2 overweight, history of diabetes 44% and 66% hypertension. The identification of risk factors in the early stages will establish actions aimed at changing lifestyles and decrease the number of patients identified with cardiovascular risk as well as promote multisectoral work to make decisions and prioritize actions.

Currently, it is clear the impact of primary care for people with diabetes and the belief that education about this disease is indispensable in the therapeutic approach, as this can contribute to an individualized patient plan that allows their subsequent treatment and the preservation of their health. Therefore, the nursing professional and the family should play a leading role, in performing preventive and educational activities, and rehabilitative care through building individual and community strategies. In the following guide you will find a series of interventions in primary care, such as: the role of the nurse and the vision of her in diabetes, assessment, monitoring and implementation of the model of Callista Roy, nursing care process, nutritional recommendations and indicators about the patient and family; in order to decrease risk factors and prevent such diseases.

Recurrent aphthosus stomatitis is an alteration of the oral mucosa in some cases associated with depression of the immune system that affects the tissue response at the level of the epithelium, triggering repetitive clinical picture of small and medium ulcers (3-5 mm) which necrotic presented erythematous background and lasting no more than 15 days. The picture becomes recurrent, symptomatic, compromising the health of the patient who consults again with the same characteristics in oral cavity. The literature associates the process with hormonal changes, trauma, prolonged intake of medications, and stress. A case of female patient 53, who attends the service of dentistry to present multiple oral thrush that hard to swallow, drooling and feverish marked presents in Santa Marta, at the Center for Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation. According to the interrogation and clinical examination it is associated with a reactive inflammatory process caused by the intake of drugs to treat infectious or viral process, which is given the presumptive diagnosis of erythema drug. Any medication intake was suspended and additional tests are ordered antinuclear antibodies.

Syndrome of frailty in the elderly, involves presenting adverse events, most in need of care, increased risk of progression to disability, dependency and death. The objective of the research was to determine the number of older adults presenting fragility syndrome and the most determining factor in a rural population of the State of Puebla, Mexico. A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, prospective study was conducted. The sample was composed of 200 patients over 65 years of age, registered in the study community health center. Data was collected through the application of the geriatric scale and fragility of Cuban criteria were applied. Including older adults 52.5% were female and 47.5 male. The prevalence of fragility Syndrome was 45%, being higher in women. As associated factorfound alterations in mobility and balance with a 26.5%. It is concluded that there is a high prevalence of fragile seniors in a rural community in Puebla, Mexico; alterations in mobility and balance are the main detonating factor, due to activities of daily living that predominate in Latin American rural areas

In order to establish the cutoff with prognostic implications for white blood cell count and age at diagnosis in adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), we conducted an observational, descriptive and analytical study nested in a retrospective cohort of patients with ALL treated by institutional protocol HGMLAL07 during 2007-2014. We study 255 patients, the 52.9% (n=135) were female and 47.1% (n=120) were male. The mean age was 31 (16-80) years-old. The disease-free survival (DFS) decreases in both genders after 20 years-old (p = 0.001). Leukocyte count average was 56.1 x 109 /L (0.1-850 x 109 /L). DFS decreases significantly from an equal or greater leukocyte count of 20 x 109 /L (p<0.05). With this results, we can conclude that use foreign cutoff for age and leukocyte count could determine a bad prognosis stratification and a consequent suboptimal treatment.

The stages of change can be defined as changes in the behavior of the conduct of the people, which follows a series of steps. The present study sought to determine the stages of change with regard to the practice of physical activity of a group of college students. Its approach was quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional design. The sample of 193 students of the physiotherapy program from a private university in the city of Cali, selected by simple random sampling, through the OpenEpi statistical software version 3.0.1. A questionnaire of stages of change of physical activity in its short form was used. Analysis was descriptive and correlation with some sociodemographic variables using the Chi-square test. 89.6% of the university students is in the first three stages of change, i.e. are sedentary and a 10.31% was categorized as physically active. The variable associated with the stages of change was the sex with a value p<0.05. The majority of the participants in the study population is young and is at risk of classified as inactive physical. There is potential in this group to promote healthy habits through the practice of physical activity.

The research identifies the effects of sociodemographic variables and quality of life in the academic performance of 465 students of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Magdalena. The methodology used for data collection consisted of the application of two instruments to students of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Magdalena, the instrument of Martha Artunduaga on variables that influence the achievement of theUniversity and the instrument SF 36 was the quality of life in health. We conclude that there is no relationship between quality of life, sociodemographic factors and academic performance in the subjects of this sample. While a significant and inverse relationship between age and academic performance as well as the social status and academic performance was observed, showing that the lower the social stratum have better academic performance among younger and better academic performance, are relates this phenomenon by the fact that students are faced with strength and persistence of the difficulties perceiving education as an opportunity to overcome poverty as the core of the theory of social mobility.

The purpose of this research was to analyze the psychometric properties of Anderson, Funnell, Fitzgerald y Marrero´s Diabetes Empowerment Scale, Long Form-Spanish (DES-LF-S), in 528 diabetic adults. The confirmatory factor analysis stated that the model that best adjust to the data has a tridimensional structure and replicates the structure of the scale in its original version. Items of the scale explained 63.79% of variance. The scale showed satisfactorylevels of internal consistency, obtaining a Cronbach´s Alpha of .96; additionally percentiles for the interpretation of individual results were obtained. These findings support the use of DES-LF-S to evaluate self-efficacy related to diabetes in adults.
