Dodoma region is a semi arid area experiencing long dry season accompanied with very strong wind. This condition results into suspension of particles in the atmosphere originating from the blown soil dust which may transport nutrients and other metals and causing negative consequences to the ecosystem. Contribution of this phenomenon to the atmospheric aluminum, silicon and nutrients is not well understood. The study was conducted to assess atmospheric deposition of aluminum, silicon and nutrients in Dodoma Municipality. The samples of rain water were collected in event basis from three different areas reflecting a combination of natural and anthropogenic activities and analyzed for aluminum, silicon, ammonium, nitrate and phosphate. The results show that there is strong variation in rainfall intensity within Dodoma Municipality caused by niches of micro meteorological factors. The concentration of nutrients showed that NO3->NH4+>PO43- with volume weighted mean concentrations 500, 210 and 160µgL-1, respectively. Nutrients deposition in Dodoma Municipality show clear spatial variation due to nature and intensity of anthropogenic activities. It was also found that annual deposition flux of the nitrogen based nutrient is low compared to the other reported area with similar rainfall intensity reflecting less industrial activities and relatively low population density. However phosphorous deposition is relatively high due to burning of biomass during land preparation and dissolution from soil particles. Silicon and aluminum in the precipitation around Dodoma Municipality was significantly high showing clear spatial variation as results of variation of rainwater pH. It was concluded that strong wind during dry condition disperse nutrients and bring soil dust which results into high concentrations of aluminum and silicon and low concentrations of nitrogen in the wet precipitation.

This work was the review of the potential impacts of the activities, products and services that need to be addressed within the Environmental Management System (EMS). The study was done at the “Hotel des Parlementaires” (HDP), a 4 stars Hotel with a capacity of 300 rooms located in the city of Yamoussoukro. In-depth interview of 3 target groups was done, the management team, Social and Environment Managers, and staff. This was completed by a focus group Interview. Data were gathered by listing the environmental aspects according to the ISO 14001 criteria. Then identified most significant environmental impacts were assessed. The most important potential impacts to the environment found were the discharge from the HDP into the air and water bodies, the contamination of soil, the utilization of raw materials and natural resources, the management of waste, and the environment of the local community. Corrective actions concerning good Housekeeping practice such as the use of ecocard for bedrooms, sundry of laundry, storm water collection and recycling, reuse of rinse water, and the setup of 3Rs program for waste management were proposed. The setting up of a training program for environmental awareness among staff, guests and clients were indicated.

Earthworm is life of soils. It regulates soils productivity, humidity and concentration of water, oxygen, minerals, temperature and pH. The life of earthworm is getting destroyed by application of artificial insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, various types of wastes and acid rain. These killer substances change physical, chemical and biological properties of soils and generate corrosive atmosphere for earthworm. These pollutants change the concentration of natural minerals which are present in soils by increasing the acidic character of soils. The acidic soils develop microbiological corrosion cell with earthworm and it oxidize carbohydrate, protein and fat into CO2, H2O, NH3, glycerol and organic acid. Corrosion reaction increases the temperatures of soils and finally kill earthworm. Heavy metals and gaseous pollutants come into soil by different medium which produce corrosive effect for earthworm. Pyrite ores of industrial area enter into soil to form acid and that acid is corroding earthworm. These foreign materials contaminate soil and reduce the fertility of soil. Aloe vera juice is applied to control the pH values of soils and protect the life of earthworm. The experimental work shows that Aloe vera has capability to control the physical, chemical and biological parameters of soils and it also enhances the fertility and productivity of soil and protects the life of earthworm by corrosive pollutants. For this work soil samples are taken from the coal area of Jhariya district (in Dhanbad), steel plant area Chas in Bokaro district, urban area of Chak Beyriya in district of Patna and village area of Fulwariy-Tajpur in district of Chapra.
