Introduction This is a case report of 45 year old female who visited Govt. Ayurveda Medical College, Bangalore with the complaint of half headache which starts mildly in the morning and increases gradually as the day goes on, reaches the peak at around 12 PM and subsides in the evening. The symptoms aggravate during the days when the lady walks under the sun and after head bath. Based on the symptoms, the diagnosis was made as Suryavarta. Materials and Methods The subject was systematically reviewed and intervention was planned according to chikitsa sutra of Suryavarta. Result The subject showed considerable improvement subjectively as shown by Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) score. Discussion Attribute based treatment is one of the treatment modality told in Ayurveda. LanghanaBrimhaneeyam is the chapter in AshtangaHridaya which explains the treatment for the three doshas based on gunas(attributes). Based on this, in the present study, guna based treatment forsuryavarta is studied.

Obesity, one of the most rapidly increasing health problem throughout world among children and adolescents impacts the child’s health and educational attainment. It has serious short and longterm medical consequences. Dietary imbalance and overnutrition may lead to diseases like obesity. The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically in the last decades due to sedentary lifestyle. Ayurveda, the science of life mentioned it as medoroga, involve imbalance of doshas along with disturbances of Agni. In the text of Ayurveda Pathya Aahar, various yoga are described for prevention and management of obesity.

Skin, being the largest integumentary organ of our body,fulfils a huge number of important functions ,all of which are designed to help our body working properly. But the adverse factors like changing life style,excessive use of cosmetics and skin care products,junk food habits ,air pollution,UV rays,stress etc.damages the human skin ,especially the facial skin,which is much thinner and more sensitive than whole body skin. Mukhadooshika is a skin disorder,one among the kshudraroga as explained in ayurvedic classics;featuring the formation of shalmalikantakavat pidaka or pimples on face.An akin disorder to mukhadooshika is Acne vulgaris.It is a chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous units.The hallmark of acne is the comedone : open comedones(black heads) and closed comedones(white heads).Inflammatory papules,nodules and cysts occur and may rise from comedones.Mukhadooshika can seriously affect the individual’s confidence and quality of life. Present treatment options have their own limitations and can present with side effects.While mentioning the treatment modalities for mukhadooshika ,Acharyas of Ayurveda have given importance on rakthamokshana.A female patient aged 22 years was presented in our OPD with pimples on both cheeks and forehead associated with itching,pain and burning sensation since 4 years.Jaloukavacharana was done for the same and result was significant.Assessment was done clinically and results were recorded with photographs.

Here is a case study of Psoriasis (Kitibha Kushtha). A 22 years old female having symptoms of erythematous scaly patches with itching and dryness on neck, legs, hands and lower back region is being presented. There was no significant past and family history. There was history of consuming Virudhha Ahara specifically salted khichdi with milk in diet frequently. Involvement of Vata and KaphaDoshas along with RaktaDhatu was considered as causes in pathogenesis of condition. In treatment, Snehapana, Rakta Pitta Shodhaka, VataKapha DoshaS hamaka and Samshodhana (Virechana Karma) Chikitsa were given. Patient showed good symptomatic improvement and feeling of well-being within 10 days of starting treatment. After two and half months of treatment patient had remarkable (90%) improvement in all symptoms. Only mild pigments were left. Encouraged with the response of Ayurvedic management, the current case study is being presented.

Psoriasis is one of the critical and fast growing problems in society which has no complete and truthful cure in different medical faculties. We come across several patients of psoriasis which have no expected treatment response from many specialist and pathies since 2-13 years. By blessings of classical Ayurveda text, we can treat psoriasis by Ayurveda treatment like Panchakarma therapy in better way. Ayurveda has a holistic treatment approach for psoriasis. As per Ayurveda, vitiation of Tridosha is the main pathological factor in the body. Acharyas have already mentioned Shodhana and Shamana Chikitsa as the line of treatment of skin diseases including Psoriasis. Virechana Karma (purgation) is the Shodana Chikitsa among Panchakarma therapy widely used for psoriasis. A case of 38 year old male having symptoms like well outlined, raised, red scaling silvery spots on back region and itching & burning sensations over upper limbs will be discussed here.

Present review focus on critical analysis on classical medicationHingvadiChurnain view of its indication in Kashtartava (Primary dysmenorhoea). Data were analysed based on the literature survey converging the classics of Ayurveda as well as modern studies. The analysed data apices that all the ingredients of the medication Hingvadi Churna, having a great role to uproot the etiopathogenenesis of the disease Kashtartava (Primary dysmenorhoea). The review recommends that the drug can be used internally as an effective medicine to manage the Kashatartava. Also there is scope of further scientific study to explore this beautiful medication for the wellbeing of the society.

In Ayurveda, medicated oils are used for treatment of almost every disease. For the treatment of nasarog ShigruTaila is described in Vangasen Samhita.The contents of Shigru Taila are Shigru, Priyangu, Vacha, Shunthi, Pippali, Marich, Munnakka, Surasa (Tulsi), Sendhawa1 . It contains predominantly vatakaphadoshashamak dravya. ShigruTaila prepared according to The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India with standard operative procedure which is described for oil preparation. The present study was undertaken to standardize the formulation of ShigruTaila which is prepared by classical method of Tailapaka.

The term vata is derived from the root “VA” with “KTA” pratyaya. It is described as “VaGatigandhanayo” means that which move. Vata is a biophysical force or a material entity, or a complex of such entities. It is a primal constituent of Sharira and Manasutpatti and originated with dominance of vayu and akashamahabhuta with ruksha, Laghu, sheeta and chaladigunas, yogavahi, avyakta, amurtatva, anvasthitatva, apratighatatva. To know the basic pathology of any illness, understanding of it’ snidana is very important. Understanding of different Nidana, gives clarity of involvement dosha and dushyaand helps us to understand different variation that which is induces different type of vyadhi. In this article an attempt is made to understand the different modes responsible forvata to get prakopaie in the form of abyantarahetu and bahyahetu are described. These nidanas are also analysed under the concept of Hetuvishesha and Vyadhivishesha. The utility of Vataprakopakanidana in current scenario is need of the hour to segregate nidanas under different categories of causative factors for easy understanding and to plan proper treatment.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic, inflammatory, migratory polyarthritis presenting with pain, stiffness and swelling. During acute episodes the pain and stiffness can be crippling. Providing symptomatic relief becomes an urgent need. Current modern biomedical drugs, though effective, have serious adverse effects in the long term. Ayurveda, India’s traditional healthcare system, prescribes numerous organic internal and external medicines as well as therapies for pain relief. All medicines and therapies are derived from naturally available resources. Among them is Jalouka-avacharana, Leech Application, where leeches are applied at the area of maximum pain, allowed to suck blood, and then removed. The procedure is totally painless and highly economical. Indications for leech application have been listed in classical Ayurvedic literature. The current case study employed Jalouka-avacharana in a patient of Acute-on-chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis affecting mainly knee joints. Two parameters were used to assess the outcome, namely measurement of joint circumference with measuring tape for swelling, and Visual Analogue Scale for pain. Jalouka-avacharana in Acute RA showed significant reduction in swelling and pain in the affected knee joints. No adverse effects were observed during the study.

Ayurveda is the oldest system of medicine. Its main aim is to maintain the health of a person by preventing the disease to healthy person and to cure the disease of ill person. If we take proper food in proper time and in proper quantity it promotes our health and if we take improper food, it causes many diseases. After proper digestion of food our body gets energy for growth of our body and all our physiological works are performed by these. If we get ill we have to take proper food for a particular disease. Six rasa has described in our samhita. These provide nutrients that boost immunity. By taking aahar as described in Charak Samhita people can live healthy life

Respiratory disease threatens as emerging public health crisis like Asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer affect in worldwide, causing widespread morbidity and mortality rate. 100 millions of population in the world suffer from chronic respiratory diseases. 4 million people die prematurely from respiratory diseases each year. In modern Broncho dilators, Corticosteroids, Anti-IgE Antibodies are mainly used but not get much relief. In Ayurveda Panchakarma is most important part of the treatments. It is curative promotive, preventive, and rehabilitative therapy. Vamana (Emesis) is a first, major and strenuous procedure of Panchkarma. Procedure of Vamana karma in which dosha (toxin) are completely removed by upper channels i.e. mouth especially the Kaphaand Pitta dosha brought to Amashaya (stomach) from all over the body. During aggravated kaphadosha, it is best treatment which clear the toxins from the Respiratory tract and GIT. Vamana is mainly indicated in allergic condition like Bronchial asthma, COPD, Rhinitis, sinusitis etc. Vamana karma not only detoxifies the body in normal condition and disease stage but also provides nutrition, functioning, elasticity of lung tissue & gives natural immunity of the body. Vamana act as anti- histamine activity to washout the existing histamine from the respiratory system so Vamana is first treatment choice in respiratory disease.

Anupana is an important concept of ayurveda which plays an important role in maintaining the good health as well as health of diseased person. It helps in digestion of food thus leading to pacification of doshas and maintaining health. It also facilitates the absorption of the drug. According to ayurveda different anupana are prescribed for different types of food. In this way anupana plays an important role in maintaining good health.

Renal function disorders have always underestimated since ages. It is one of the foremost reasons of demise in the world. Alarming incidence of kidney failure is increasing day by day. The usage of herbal drugs for the avoidance and management of kidney disorders are persistently developing all over the world. A large number of extracts of natural goods and nutritional antioxidants have been noted to display protective effects against nephrotoxicity. Many Ayurvedic herbal drugs have revealed a very good effect as Nephroprotective drugs due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and antispasmodic properties. WHO has recently mentioned that traditional medicines have been existing in therapeutic practice even hundred years before the development of scratch of modern medicine. There is mounting an awareness of herbal health benefits. This is with good reason as they might offer a natural protection against the development of conditions and be a treatment for some diseases. Herbal drugs have clinically confirmed great immunomodulation, adaptogenic and anti-mutagenic, they play a very important role in the treatment of urinary stones. A series of medicinal plants shows Antiurolithiatic activity such as Shigru, Pashanabheda, Sariva, Punarnava, Gokhuru, Makka,Varun & Methika as they reduce elevated blood urea & Serum Creatinine. Sariva & Shigru increases the functional capacity like prevention of renal injuries; helps in improving Haemopoiesis, Such many valid evidences are required to provide scientific evaluation for the use of traditional medicines in the development of preventive and personalized medicine.

Bhavaprakasha Nighantu is an important and widely accepted treatise in Ayurveda with respect to Dravyaguna chiefly about Dravyas (Aushadha, Ahara, Dhatu varga). It includes Nirukthi, Paryaya, Guna Karma and Prayoga. The author has explained 23 Varga’s and Vargeekarana (classification of Varga’s) was made based on similarity in Swarupa (morphology) or GunaKarma. Karpooradi varga includes 52 drugs which are Sugandhi Dravyas (aromatic drugs). This paper aims to review the drugs mentioned in Karpooradi varga of Bhavaprakasha Nighantu.

Tobacco used disorder is a major preventable cause of death. It is a drug of addiction which contains nicotine, a major chemical constituent which can act as a stimulant. Smoking cigarette becomes a fashion so that its use is increasing day to day. According to the WHO Reports, Tobacco kills about 8 million people every year. There are about 1.1 billion adult smokers and 367 million smokeless tobacco users are in the world today. The risk of tobacco smoking is four times greater than the death from normal heart diseases. It is global social and medical problem; so it needs awareness and education from primary level. Ancient Ayurveda text book Yogaratnakara, first time explained in detail about the toxic and ill effects of tobacco. It mentions about various therapeutic uses of tobacco. In this article, we have discussed about the study of tobacco as per Ayurveda and modern science, along with its medicinal uses as well as adverse effects and its preventive measures.

Ayurveda is an eternal science with foremost motive to maintain the health of healthy i.e. prevention of diseases and then management of the disease. Madhumeha is a disease which was well known from ancient time to present and shows similar pattern of occurrence and management as well. Diabetes mellitus specifically type 2 (NIDDM) is spreading worldwide and India considered as ‘Diabetic Capital’ bring concern on its prevention. Concept of prevention was given in Ayurveda by following Pathya and physical exercise (Vyayama) in Prameha, which bring focus towards Yogasana. Being a disease of Kapha dominancy in its initial stage, to manage that Yogasana which bring Dridhikarna (compactness) of Abadha Kapha along with increase in Agni (metabolism), reduction of Meda along with psychological benefits. Taking that, in concern the topic “To Study the effect of Yogasana in Prevention of Madhumeha W.S.R. NIDDM” was selected for the study.

Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpanais the branch of Ayurveda that deals with Pharmaceutics. It deals with the preparation of different dosage form. Sneha Kalpana is one of dosage prepared by Taila and Ghrita with addition of different plants and liquid media, they were very extensive range of diseases among patients of all age groups. Sneha Kalpas preparation in Ayurvedic pharmaceutics are used widely for medicinal as well as cosmetic purposes. It is used to extract the fat soluble, water soluble, or even the chemical constituents which are soluble in various media and active principles from the raw material, enhance and absorption of drugs, when used topically in fat media. Kalyanaka Ghrita is a polyherbal formulation mentioned in various Ayurvedic texts, and it is widely and effectively used by Ayurvedic physicians in the management of a wide array of disorders. Here, we provide a critical review of Sneha Kalpana process in reference to Kalyanaka Ghrita.
