The study aims to review different measurements of earnings quality and investigate its determinants, mainly derived from firm characteristics of Vietnamese listed companies from 2011 to 2019. Panel data analysis is implemented, and fixed-effect regression is employed along with post-estimation tests to achieve robust findings. The research results indicate that dividend yield and firm size are positively related to earnings quality while financial leverage, growth, profitability, and accounting losses negatively impact on earnings quality. Meanwhile, firm age and the Circular 200 have a positive partial impact on the quality of earnings of listed firms in Vietnam.

The current paper aims to analyze factors affecting green consumption intention based on the extended theory of planned behavior. The proposed model is analyzed using regression analysis with data from 295 participants. The results indicate that attitude towards buying green products, behavioral control, social influence, and knowledge about green products are four factors that have significantly positive influences on consumers’ intention of purchasing green products. However, in contrast to some previous studies, environmental concern has no direct relationship with consumers’ green consumption intention. Incredibly, this paper contributes to the ecotourism destinations by encouraging green consumption to prevent the natural environment intention (i.e., eco-souvenir, eco-friendly plastic, organic foods) and build a natural destination image.

The topic of student engagement has emerged by the end of the last century and has become an interesting research topic for its robust correlation with a large number of desirable and positive educational outcomes. While in-class student engagement has been largely studied, out-of-class student engagement seems to receive less attention. This study closes the gap in the literature by presenting evidence on the relationship between out-of-class engagement and student learning outcomes using two different datasets of 492 and 491 business students in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The structural equation modeling analyses using SmartPLS show significant effects of cognitive and agentic engagement on student learning outcomes. In addition, the out-of-class agentic engagement is confirmed to be a separate and distinct subcomponent of student engagement.

This study empirically examines how social capital affects household income in rural Vietnam using the VARHS 2012-2014 surveys. We operationalized four forms of social capital, which are formal social networks, informal social networks, government connection, and general trust. We illustrate that social capital is abundant and has positive impacts on household income in rural Vietnam. Among many dimensions of social capital, political and governmental connectivity is fundamentally essential for improving household income. Approaching governmental organizations through the friend network is much more effective than the relative network or family member network. This study provides evidence that informal network is also important. Connecting to the community through the participation of wedding ceremonies increases spiritual well-being and works as a type of social capital to increase household income. Surprisingly, we find no positive impact of general trust and other massive organizations, which are often claimed to be necessary, such as the Farmer Association or the Women Association.

This study investigates the potential impacts of tariff elimination under the European Union - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) on Vietnam’s imports of dairy products from the European Union market. The SMART model, which is a simulation tool under the WITS, is employed with support data from TrendEconomy and Trade Map Database, UNCTAD’s TRAINS, WTO’s IDB (Integrated Data Base), and Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance. The study examines two scenarios of Vietnam’s tariff reduction commitments under the EVFTA and the big picture vVietnam’s import value by product line and by European Union (EU) nations would increase insignificantly as the trade creation effect dominates the trade diversion. Additionally, the results indicate insignificant welfare gain for the consumers and potential revenue loss for the government. The study provides insights for Vietnam’s dairy industry and policymakers to fully grasp the possible benefits and losses under the EVFTA and implications for decision-making.

As a result of the increase in global climate change and the development of social networks, the study of ecotourism and the impact of social networks has been getting greater attention. Nonetheless, research examining the impact of social networks on ecotourism has been limited. This study investigates the relationship between ease of use, perceived usefulness, wordof-mouth (WOM), perceived trust, and tourist attitude towards ecotourism, and examines the moderating role of perceived risk on these relationships in the context of Vietnam. The regression analysis was conducted with data from answers of 231 respondents. The results show that perceived trust has the largest impact on tourist attitude towards ecotourism, which is followed by perceived usefulness. WOM communication has the least impact. The study also highlights the role of perceived risk in moderating the relationship between social networks and tourist attitudes.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of the chief executive officer (CEO) demographic characteristics including CEO age, CEO gender, and CEO education on the performance of firms in the scientific research and technology development (SRTD) industry context. The crosssectional data employed are collected from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam’s survey on corporations in 2017 with three samples, which include SRTD firms, certified SRTDs as CSRTD firms, and the SRTD industry as a whole. The least-squares analysis, robust regressions, statistical parametric and non-parametric tests are conducted to analyze the data. Firstly, it is found that the association between CEO age and firm performance is different between SRTD firms and CSRTD firms and statistically non-significant to the SRTD industry as a whole. Secondly, female CEOs of SRTD firms operate their businesses better than their male counterparts while the opposite is witnessed in CSRTD firms. For the whole SRTD industry, male CEOs outperform. Thirdly, for SRTD firms, the higher education of CEOs does not ensure higher performance. Nonetheless, CEOs with master’s degrees do have better performance than CEOs with bachelor’s degrees. These results are consistent in all estimation models being employed. The study is the first to examine factors affecting the performance of firms in the SRTD industry.

IT professionals’ job satisfaction is important in minimizing turnover, improving job performance, minimizing absenteeism, and increasing the level of job involvement. The primary purpose of this study is to measure the job satisfaction of IT professionals and to identify which factors influence job satisfaction the most in Hanoi’s IT companies. The study also investigates the relationship between job satisfaction factors and the overall job satisfaction by using the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and Job General Index (JGI) questionnaire to evaluate the construct validity of factors. Data were gathered from a survey of 326 IT professionals in systems development to capture perceptions regarding workrelated factors on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The results of this study indicate that compensation and benefits, co-worker, promotion opportunities, nature of work, and supervision are positively related to job satisfaction. Based on these findings, the study provides implications to business executives in the IT businesses.

While developed countries have been aware of the important role and built successful models of business-university cooperation, in Vietnam, this cooperation has not been paid enough attention to and has not yet been implemented. To improve the situation, this study develops a model of factors that affect the businesses willingness to participate in the business-university cooperation of Vietnamese companies. Utilizing data collected from interviews with 58 enterprises and applying the EFA factor analysis and regression analysis, the study finds that two factors, which are the awareness of benefits, and barriers, affect the willingness to participate in business-university cooperation have been found with a regression model. While awareness of benefits promotes the businesses willingness, Barriers prevent owners/ managers from engaging in such relationships. Based on the research results, some solutions are proposed to enhance the willingness of companies.
