This work briefly reviews the validity and development of one of the traditional musical genre that most characterizes Ecuador and Cuenca, the Pasillo, which sung or instrumental is synonymous with national music. The lyric of the Pasillo-song has been subjected to analysis from the narrative discourse and from its poetic format that has gone through contrasting styles along with lounge music, through the rocolera music, to the academic contemporary music. The Pasillo has been consumed by all social sectors and fulfills cultural functions that maintain the identity of the city.

This work is an approach to theater and dance from the form theory perspective. An introduction to this theory is made and then a tour of the scenic form in the art of the Russian Revolution is drawn, especially focused on the conception of staging of Tretyakov and Eisenstein. In addition, these notions apply to the understanding of the performing arts in the work of two Ecuadorian artists, specifically in the choreographies of Ernesto Ortiz and in the staging of Andrés Vázquez.

The search for art and iconography in nationalities and towns of Ecuador will reveal its cultural expressions, since in the country the studies conducted on these peoples have been anthropological, sociological, medicinal and mythological, leaving aside the artistic work. It is possible the application of a graphic generated from the geometric abstractions made by the Amazonian peoples to decorate their ceramic objects, whose forms are extracted from nature and captured in their various productions. The natural wealth that surrounds the inhabitants of the Amazon comprises a diversity of two-dimensional interpretations of animal skins, their morphology and chromatic, leaving in evidence the possibility of starting from organic designs to use them as managing motifs.

This work illustrates the creation of three works of contemporary artistic ceramics from the aesthetics of the Chorrera culture and the appropriation of forms as an artistic resource, a process in which the banal object is decontextualized, resemantized and represented in a new version of whistle bottles, assumed as a cannibal and anthropophagic gesture as a theoretical foundation that gave rise to the «neobottles whistle».

The presence of Fernando Ortiz y Fernández at the Universidad Central «Marta Abreu» de Las Villas goes beyond an honorary degree. This paper aims to investigate the links of such an important Cuban personality with the academic, scientific, cultural and editorial life of this institution in its early years. The official sources consulted, contrasted with the press of the time and the documents written by Ortiz, demonstrate its early influence on the development of this university while allowing the clarification of confusing or poorly studied biographical data.

Petit’s trajectory is as complex as the social context in which he lived and the analysis requires taking into account a set of elements: the imaginaries, class condition, concept and [bad] treatment of «race», as well as the intertext and the mythology developed around the subject from the colonial era to the literary space it occupies today, through the proliferation (oral or written) of a text that is already old in time. This paper analyzes the construction of the myth of Petit from the main elements that integrate it in order to determine its historical contribution to Cuban culture as an important precursor of mixed societies in Cuba; especially in relation to racial integration in Abakuá societies.

Canarian emigrants founded the city of Matanzas in the last decades of the 17th century. Although its founding history is the subject of extensive study, details about the founding families, such as their physical health condition or age, remain unexplored; these demographic elements included in unpublished documentation are the subject of this analysis. From this information, we clear aspects of the migration process related to the foundational plan, listing an approximate number of families that participated in the foundational acts, which has been a contradictory issue. This study reveals important details that clarify the process of migration, development and urban evolution of Matanzas, the first modern city of Cuba.

This paper aims to make visible the work of the Cuban writer Rebeca Murga Vicens through the analysis of the novel Los aprendices and from a recount of the characteristics of the crime narrative in its more general variants, confronting the criteria of various specialists of the topic, and reviewing how it has behaved in Cuba until today. This is based on a structural analysis, as Cedomil Goiæ proposes, to determine, from the text itself, the insertion of this author in the contemporary Cuban generational panorama. From the textual analysis, are provided the specificities of the work that allow its author to achieve a particular author’s voice, on the margin, without generational affiliation, despite the inevitable influences.

This research contributes to the fair assessment of the literature work for children and young adults written by the Ecuadorian author Edna Iturralde. For this reason, a set of guiding notes for theoretical and/or methodological approach is proposed to open a path for her research on the development of a historical fiction to insert Ecuador in the classical children‘s and young adults literature world; to rescue and stablish a national oral tradition; and to potentiate her didactics for Social Studies, Language and Literature. In this paper, the authors briefly state that interpretation, as an intercultural communication bridge, demands that interpreters not only master exquisite language techniques, but also rich and generous knowledge of different cultural backgrounds and the important functions of intercultural awareness during intercultural communication. It discusses the basic conceptions of intercultural awareness and the relationship between interpreters and intercultural awareness for the success of the simultaneous interpreting service. Several ways of training intercultural competences and mediating abilities are also analyzed so that the interpreter could strengthen the sensitivity to cultural differences, misunderstanding can be effectively reduced, and intercultural communication can be successfully achieved.

Most of professionals consider that figurative language is exclusive of artistic literature and, consequently, they think it is totally opposed to the language of science. However, the purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the use of figurative language in writing styles and popular speaking. As a result of the methodological process, the use of figurative language in all cases was confirmed. This allows arriving to the conclusion that this constitutes a linguistic necessity: no language possesses the infinite number of signs to express the ideas and shades of thought; therefore, tropology is not exclusive of writers, because it is also used in the other styles and in popular speaking.

This research proposes a system of activities to contribute to develop orthographic abilities through the historic etymological direction, in the students of 9th grade. From the results obtained in the diagnostic test at the beginning and in interviews made to professors, in reference to the development of orthographic abilities; a system of activities based in the historic etymological direction was designed. The system of activities, through of the historic-etymological direction, proposes to work the orthographic component in the three cognitive levels in a game like way, according to the particularities of the pupils, developing the orthographic preventive conscience by association and the etymological knowledge, and to increase the knowledge of the mother tongue and the lexicon of the students.
