Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the most common cause of brain abscess with source of otitis media and polmunary source is rare. The aim of present study was to investigate predisposing factors of isolated Pseudomonas infections; therefore, the brain and lung abscess caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a patient without any predisposing factor is reported. The patient was a 57-year old male presented with headache, vomiting and seizure. He had a history of old myocardial infarction with no diabetes mellitus or immunosuppressed diseases. In the imaging he had abscess in brain and lung. Bronchoalveolar lavage culture and CSF culture were positive for pseudomonas aeroginosa. Intra venus broad spectrum antibiotics (ciprofloxacine, vancomycine and colistin) and intra ventricular colistin was administered for three weeks after that the culture of CSF and broncho alveolar lavage had been negative and abscesses were resolved. At fifth week after treatment the patient died because of acute myocardial infarction. According to the present findings more studies should be done about Pseudomonas infections

Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are common worldwide and associated with pulmonary diseases. Epidemiological studies indicated low levels of serum Vitamin D is associated with impaired pulmonary function. The aim of present study was to evaluate the vitamin D levels and its correlation to adult asthmatic patients. 120 asthmatic patients older than 18 years of age submitted to Yas pulmonary clinic (Tabriz, Iran) from June 2014 to June 2015 were included in the study. The information of patients like sex, age (18-30 Years, 30-45 Years, 45-60 years and > 60 years), duration of disease (> 10 years, 5-10 years, 1-5 years and < 1 year) and BMI (< 20, 20-25, 25-30 and > 30) were recorded. The severity of asthma and levels of asthma control were assessed according to the Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines at four levels (Intermittent, mild, moderate and severe) were recorded or investigated. Serum vitamin D levels were determined and defined at four levels (Sever, mild to moderate deficiency, insufficiency and normal). Duncan's new multiple range test was used to compare the means of vitamin D with other variables. Most of patients have been found to be severely deficient in vitamin D (44.3%). The normal range of serum vitamin D was observed in just 13/131 patients (9.9%). The patients aged more than 60 years old (22 ng/m) had the highest mean value of vitamin D that was significantly higher than the younger patients aged 30-45 years (12.44 ng/m) and 18-30 years (8.17 ng/m). There was not any significant correlation among vitamin D levels, severity and duration of asthma. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in thin people (12.09 ng/m) was significantly more than fat people (19.44 ng/m). The results of present study demonstrated the insignificant correlation between serum vitamin D levels and asthma in adults. Definitely, this relationship being affected by multiple factors other than vitamin D. further investigations should be conducted to find the interrelation between all effective factors.

There are number of medicinal plant products which have been traditionally used in India including various other subcontinents for various kinds of ailments or diseases. In spite of these treatments, there is an urgent need for those substances which showed anti-inflammatory as well as anti-viral activity. To achieve this objective, our group focused on the rhizome portion of Zingiber officinale was screened for anti-inflammatory activity against specific antigen (hepatitis B vaccine, HBsAg) and also observed its antiviral activity against new castle disease virus (NDV) in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The results showed that the aqueous rhizome extract of Zingiber officinale showed remarkably decline in the number of CD14 monocyte count with exposure of HBsAg and NDV as compared to control group. In addition, this extract also showed drastically reduced in the level of antigen specific HBsAg and NDV proliferation at higher doses as compared to control. NDV and HBsAg used as standard for these studies and the results showed that there is drastically increased in CD14 monocytes count and proliferation assay as compared to control. Overall, the results showed that the aqueous rhizome extract of Zingiber officinale showed anti-inflammatory as well as anti-viral activity.

The presented study aims to investigate psychological factors in people who are suffered from occupational accidents and injuries. The method of the review is post-event or casual-comparative method, which is performed through available sampling from Ilam province (two groups of 25 injured and 25 non-injured people that have been matched). Mississippi structured inventory, Beck depression inventory, perceived social support questionnaire, Kobasa hardiness inventory, and risk perception inventory are used for data collection. Independent t-test was used to compare means, which was significant at 95% confidence level. But this difference was not significant in Mississippi questionnaire. Also, significance level in correlations was less than 0.05 indicating a correlation between them. Depression was seen in sample group but there were no symptoms of PTSD. The correlation studies also have shown the important role of perceived social support of individuals from family and others in development of this disorder, and that this factor has shown a good relation with hardiness (especially in challenge sub-scale) and risk perception.
