The problem of dividing veteran sportsmen into groups at sports climbing competitions, according to their age, is considered. The results of test competitions with five age groups of participants were used in the research. A new method for defining sportsmen’s performance effectiveness, depending on the sum of points scored at competitions, is offered. Mean values of effectiveness in five age groups have been calculated on the basis of the individual grade of this parameter. It enables to come to a conclusion that two age groups in men and one in women showed better results than groups of younger people by 0,5–3,4 %. By identifying indicators of information theory: general and relative entropy and redundancy factor and primary autonomic tone shows that the mechanisms of autonomic regulation in highly trained athletes (MS and MSIC) better than their counterparts with lower athletic skills.
