The linear and non-linear, adaptive and geometric methods have been considered for smooth approximations for compact image representation to improve performance of subsequent processing, storage and transmission. This allows you to increase the effectiveness of methods for removing noise, segmentation, detection of the edges and pattern recognition. Comparative analysis of approximation methods for image compression tasks is performed on the basis of quantitative and qualitative visual assessment.
