Variety of grass-shrub layer of birch forests of Teberdinsky Reserve and Natural park "Upper Gunib"

Communities dominated by Betula litwinowii Doluch have been studied in Teberdinsky Reserve (Karachay-Cherkessia) and the Natural Park "Upper Gunib" (Dagestan). The assessment of the grass-shrub layer for 5 groups of communities of high-altitude birch forests was carried out using the indices of Menhinik, Margalef, Shannon, Simpson, Shannon-Weaver equalization index and dominance index, reflecting different aspects of biodiversity. The comparison of the obtained indicators of equalization of the grass-shrub layer of mountain birch forests of the studied regions of the North Caucasus with the literature data was carried out. It is shown that values of indices of Margalef and Menhinick exhibit greater scatter of the average values. With high species richness, Simpson and Shannon indices have medium-high values. Indices are determined, which enable to estimate the level of biodiversity in mountain birch communities most objectively, and allow to comparing syntaxons of these communities.

New records of rare and protected vascular plants in the Vologda part of the Vaga River basin

The work was carried out in the southern part of the Vaga River basin (within the Verkhovazhskiy, Syamzhenskiy and Totemskiy districts of the Vologda Region) as a part of the studies for Red Data Book of the Vologda Region. Results obtained are important for clarifying the chorological and phytocenotic regional preferences of a number of species of vascular plants and for identifying modern "centers" of rare and protected species, giving an idea of the environmental value of this basin and its parts. As a result of field studies in 2015–2019 a total of 550 new localities of 67 protected and 52 rare species of vascular plants were recorded, including 2 species (4 localities) with the 1/CR status, 1 (1) with 1/EN, 3 (7) with 2/EN, 8 (30) with 2/VU, 22 (86) with 3/NT, 28 (126) with 3/LC, 3 (5) with 4/DD, and 52 (291) species with a “biological control required” status. Within the boundaries of the present protected areas, only 17 protected and rare plant species were found (14.3% of the total number within the Vaga River basin). The most important findings include Saxifraga hirculus L., Scorzonera glabra Rupr. (1/CR); Calypso bulbosa (L.) Oakes (1/EN); Eremogone saxatilis (L.) Ikonn., Poa alpina L., Potamogeton crispus L. (2/EN), Epipactis atrorubens (Hoffm. ex Bernh.) Bess., Listera cordata (L.) R. Br., Poa remota Forsell. (2/VU); Festuca rupicola Heuff. (biological control required), as well as several non-status native (Helictotrichon pubescens (Huds.) Pilger, Nonea pulla DC.) and adventive (Euphorbia helioscopia L., Onobrychis viciifolia Scop, Silaum silaus (L.) Schinz ey Thell.) species, new or previously reported for the Vologda Region.

The results of the floristic survey of 9 geographical points located on the territory of Middle Volga Region are presented. A total of 765 vascular plant species were found including new ones for Samara (Scorzonera × glastifolia), Ulyanovsk (Carex humilis, Chamaecytisus borysthenicus, Galium praeboreale, Hieracium filifolium, Koeleria valdevestita, Vincetoxicum cretaceum) regions and the Republic of Tatarstan (Alchemilla nemoralis, Koeleria spryginii). The authors found the location of 14 species listed in the Red Book of Russian Federation (2008): Anthemis trotzkiana, Artemisia salsoloides, Astragalus zingeri, Cephalanthera rubra, Cypripedium calceolus, Fritillaria ruthenica, Hedysarum grandiflorum, H. razoumowianum, Iris aphylla, I. pumila, Koeleria sclerophylla, Stipa pennata, S. pulcherrima, S. za-lesskyi.

New locations of Isoetes L. (Isoetaceae, Lycopodiophyta) in Western Siberia

The article provides information on the new locations of two species of heterogeneous lycopods – Isoetes lacustris and I. echinospora in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra. I. lacustris is a new species for the Okrug. Both species found together in 4 lakes in the southern part of the Khanty-Mansi District (Sogom village), in the middle taiga subzone. I. echinospora is also found in two lakes in the north-eastern part of the Beloyarsky District, in the territory of the Noomto Natural Park
