The metabolic syndrome is a set of clinical-analytical entities that usually occur together have an impact on a substantial increase in cardiovascular risk and mortality for the patient. There is a consensus between the components of metabolic syndrome and chronic kidney disease. This article deals with the above and specifically affects the possible conditioning that chronic kidney disease can entail for treatments used in the control of metabolic syndrome.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major global public health problem. Disorders in mineralization and bone metabolism are associated with this disease. Both cause morbidity and deterioration in the quality of life of patients affected by kidney disease. These alterations generate characteristic clinical and radiological patterns, as well as different alterations in the bone. Bone is the main source of phosphorus and calcium in the body which, together with the kidneys, are mainly responsible for the regulation of mineral and bone metabolism. As a result of the strong interrelationship between the two, in the face of the development of chronic renal failure there are many manifestations in the bone system. Historically, the mineralization and bone metabolism disorders associated with CKD and its different manifestations were categorized in the same concept called Renal Osteodystrophy (ODR), which includes alteration of bone structure and composition. However, it is important to differentiate that there can be ionic alterations of calcium and phosphorus without a direct expression in the bone, as well as there can be calcifications of extra-skeletal structures without alteration proper to the skeleton. This article reviews and updates concepts related to disorders of bone mineralization and metabolism, associated with the presence of CKD, showing its different manifestations in the bone and human organism, as well as the current state of that issue.

Problems such as obesity and eating disorders are increasingly common in the world. A few years ago they were just specific pathologies, however, nowadays their prevalence only increases. For obesity, new lifestyles have played a significant role: new technologies have replaced doing sport or non-sedentary activities during free-time. Moreover, children prefer to eat high-calorie and high-sugar foods instead of eating a healthier diet. For eating disorders, current lifestyle and new technologies have also played a part in prevalence increase. Teenagers spend a lot of time on the internet where they often find bodies that they think are ideal. This has an impact on their self-steem, diminishing it and leading them to consider changing their bodied with, in many cases, extreme behaviors. These pathologies are largely preventable. Therefore, it is important that all children and teenagers get a good health education, both in diet and healthy lifestyles.

The MS (metabolic syndrome) is formed by a set of metabolic conditions such as obesity of central distribution, decreased concentrations of HDL cholesterol (high density lipoproteins) and increased TG concentrations (triglycerides), increased BP (blood pressure) and hyperglycemia. The present work aims to review and update the MS, its diagnosis, pathophysiology and dietary treatment, as well as to analyze the latest scientific evidences that relate the different components of the diet and its effects on the metabolic conditions that constitute it.
