Introduction: The increase of caloric intake and the reduce of energy expenditure leads to accumulation of energy in the form of fat, increasing the prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus. Objective: The objective of this study is to show the influence of physical exercise and eating healthy in the control of risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome. Methods and Materials: 33 volunteers were evaluated, equally divided into three groups: diet group (dietary treatment), exercise group (walking three times a week for 45 minutes) and diet + exercise group (dietary treatment with concomitant exercise). Results: The three intervention types of group, led to a decrease in BMI, weight, waist circumference (WC), blood pressure, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, uric acid and C-reactive protein of the volunteers. Discussion: The diet + exercise group showed greater mean reduction of the parameters studied, probably because the increase in calorie deficit, caused by decreased caloric intake associated with increased energy expenditure associated with walking, waist circumference reduced significantly by decreasing visceral fat by improving insulin sensitivity, decreased plasma levels of glucose, reducing blood pressure and triglyceride levels. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that changes in lifestyle, combining exercise and balanced diet contributes to the prevention and / or treatment of Metabolic Syndrome.
