This work aimed to evaluate the self-perception of research competencies of university nursing students. A descriptive, non-experimental and cross-sectional study was carried out with a non-probability sample of 213 students from the 8th and 9th semesters selected as appropriate. The instrument Self-assessment of skills and competences was used for research with 40 items, five dimensions (Information Search, Technological domain, Methodological domain, Communication of Results and Skill for research teamwork) and scale with five response options where 0 it is undeveloped and 4 is tall; the higher the score, the greater the competition. Descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test were used for differences. The results show that the students perceive themselves as having good competences on the full scale (60.1%) and in all dimensions except in Ability to work in a research team, which was the minimum necessary (44.1%). Statistically significant differences were found in academic grade with Information Search (U = 4149,000, p = .011) and Ability for teamwork (U = 4408,000, p = .05); in attendance at academic events with full scale of the instrument (U = 3,881,000, p = .025), in Information Search (U = 3,793,000, p = .014) and in Communication of Results (U = 3,881,000, p = .025) ; and in attendance at Nicolaita Summer with the full scale and all domains (p = <. 05). There is a good level of research competencies in undergraduate nursing students.
