Studies on the characterization and evaluation of plant genetic resources should be carried out in order to identify and conserve laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) gene resources from medicinal and aromatic plants of commercial importance in Turkey. This study was carried out with the aim of determining photosynthetic characteristics of containerized laurel seedlings grown from seeds collected from Antalya, Muğla and İzmir regions. Photosynthetic properties (net photosynthetic rate, transpiration, stomatal conductance, water use efficiency, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll and carotenoid) were determined in the seedlings of three populations in August and October during the first growing season following sowing. According to the results obtained, in August, İzmir-Bayındır population had the highest net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate, while Antalya-Manavgat population had the lowest values. In October, Muğla-Gökova population showed higher stomatal conductance, transpiration rate and carotenoid than others. The differences between the chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll contents of the populations were found to be statistically insignificant. Based on the photosynthetic pigment and gas exchange parameters, İzmir-Bayındır and Muğla- Gökova populations were found to be the most promising populations. These populations can be assessed in the future breeding program of laurel.

This study was carried out in Kovada lake national park in Isparta in 2018-2020 to determine the forage values of common grazeable bush species. Ten species including bush, shrub-shaped tree and shrub species (Phillyrea latifolia, Spartium junceum, Juniperus oxycedrus, Quercus coccifera, Quercus infectoria, Coronilla emerus, Colutea melanocalyx, Fraxinus excelsior, Paliurus spina-christi ve Crataegus monogyna) were used in the study. Leaf samples were taken from these species in all seasons. In this study, dry matter (DM) ratio, crude protein (CP) ratio, NDF, ADF, total digestible nutrients (TDN), relative feed value (RFV) and tannin ratios of each species were determined. According to the results of the analysis of variance, the difference between seasons and bush species was found to be statistically significant in all the examined characteristics. According to the two-year averages, when the seasons are compared, the highest crude protein ratio, TDN and RFV were obtained in the spring, while they decreased as the seasons progressed, and the lowest values were obtained in the winter. The lowest dry matter ratios, ADF and NDF values were obtained in the spring and increased in parallel with the progress of the seasons. The lowest tannin ratios were obtained in spring and summer, while the highest values were determined in winter. When the species were compared, the lowest dry matter and NDF ratio were found in C. melanocalyx, ADF ratio in P. spina-christi, and tannin ratio in P. latifolia, S. junceum, C. emerus, C. melanocalyx and F. excelsior. The highest crude protein ratio was determined in C. emerus, TDN P. spina-christi and RFV C. melanocalyx species. Consequently, it has been seen that the bush, shrub-shaped tree and shrub species in the maquis have an important potential as high quality feed for ruminant animals in the critical period in semi-arid and arid regions.

This study was carried out to evaluate some morphological features of a Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) provenance trial, which was established twenty years ago with thirty provenances in Isparta-Aydoğmuş and Burdur-Kemer, located in the Mediterranean climate zone. Within the scope of the research, measurements and observations were made on some morphological characteristics (tree diameter, branch thickness, number of branches, branch angle) in the most successful ten provenances, according to the results of scientific studies carried out from the day the experiment was established until today. When a common evaluation is made in terms of all studied characters, Çatacık, Mesudiye, Şenkaya, Sarıkamış, and Gölköy provenances can be recommended as an alternative seed source for the trial areas and their surroundings.

The pale tussock moth, Calliteara pudibunda, makes periodic outbreaks in Europe. The species made an unusual outbreak between 2018 and 2019 in Bursa, Turkey. The aim of this study is to investigate occurrence of any previous outbreak of the species in Turkey, and possible relationship among the forest management activities, temperature trends, and the recent outbreak. To investigate previous outbreaks, scientific reports, and theses both in English and Turkish, along with nature photography repositories and forums from Turkey were searched. Additionally, a questionnaire was conducted with retired Turkish foresters. Annual forest management reports related to the outbreak stand were reviewed to evaluate possible impact of the forest management activities conducted in the stand prior to the outbreak. Finally, change of size in a hypothetical C. pudibunda population was simulated by using different pupal mortality rate – temperature scenarios to predict the conditions under which an outbreak can occur. As a result, no evidence of a C. pudibunda outbreak prior to 2018 was found in Turkey. Forestry management reports revealed that two consecutive clear-cutting activities were conducted in 2012 and 2013 to open a power line in the outbreak stand. The temperature regime between 2008 and 2018 caused a dramatic increase in the simulated C. pudibunda populations.

This study was carried out to identify and improve the corporate reputation of the forestry organization of the Bartın province (Bartın Forestry Enterprise Directorate, Ulus Forestry Enterprise Directorate, and Bartın Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch Directorate) in the eyes of external stakeholders. A survey form consisting of three parts was prepared. The survey forms were filled with 308 people from the external stakeholders of the forestry organization (sector enterprises, public institutions, NGOs, auction customers, city and village people) through face-to-face interviews and e-mails. The collected data were evaluated via descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and the Kruskal-Wallis H test. The analysis of the answers of 55 statements/questions having a 5-point Likert scale and the evaluations performed indicated that the corporate reputation level of the Bartın forestry organization in the eyes of external stakeholders is at a "medium-high" level with a Likert score of 181.07. In addition to the six dimensions (emotional attraction, products and services, financial performance, vision and leadership, work environment, and social responsibility) developed by Fombrun (1996), “institutional relations” as a seventh dimension was used to measure corporate reputation. The factor analysis showed that the most important factors affecting the corporate reputation of the forestry organization, in order of importance are: 1) Institutional relations, 2) products and services, 3) vision and leadership, 4) financial performance, 5) social responsibility, 6) work environment and 7) emotional attraction. The results showed that 68.92% of the corporate reputation of the forestry organization of the Bartın province was explained by these seven factors. Besides, while the total corporate reputation differs significantly at the level of 99% according to the stakeholder group to which the participants belong, their activity area, relationship with the forestry organization, the number of employees, duty, and gender of the participant, it does not differ according to the age and education level of the participants. Finally, some improvement directions were identified to increase the corporate reputation of the forestry organization in the province of Bartın.
