This paper explores causes of failure in students of second semester in Health Program careers (Medicine, Nursing, Physical Activity and Sports) at Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, in Ensenada, Mexico. 49 students who failed were identified; they were applied an exploratory and descriptive research design, whose results allowed to determine that the major causes of failure were due to the students’ academic performance; deficient study techniques; little time for academic activities; and stress before term exams. In addition to the aforementioned reasons, most of the students do not ask the teacher to clarify doubts. From these results, a variety of strategies are recommended in order to avoid failures in the Health Program.

This research study aims to campare the effects of problem-based learning and guided learning on students' academic performance, in a first-semester group of Agronomy students at Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado de Venezuela in 2010. The study was carried out in Chemistry I, when they learnt about chemical equilibrium. A sample of 40 students divided into two groups (A and B) was used. The results show that the students taught with problem-based learning technique obtained a higher academic performance in relation to the students' mark promedy; in contrast with the students who were applied the guided learning strategy.

This paper aims to analyze the changes which occurred in the neoliberal educational policies, implemented by the Mexican government, in three public universities at Ciudad Juarez. The major reforms in these universities are: the curriculum design on competences which is characterized for the how to and ability to work; the demand for educational quality from the elements of production; the evaluation as a financial condition, as well as the social legitimacy of the university; the homogeneity of Constructive Pedagogy to educate enterprising professionals, able to cope with diverse problems. The changes which occurred in the aforementioned universities show that their management meets the labor market demands, the technological ad- vances, and the new management of the production.

The following research is based on a quasi-experimental design, supported by a field research, which involved an experimental group; as well as a control group. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of educational software on teaching strategies for environmental education, in significant learning experiences for students at Instituto Pedagógico de Barquisimeto. Both groups were applied a preliminary test for the equivalence between them; after that, the experimental group was given the content of the program through educational software; whilst the control group was taught a traditional class. Subsequently, a test validated by experts and with high reliability by the Kuder-Richardson co-efficient: 0,83, was given to both groups. The analysis of data was developed applying the statistic “T” of "student", it allows to accept the working hypothesis, and finally conclude that significant learning was achieved by the students of the experimental group.

Mabel Condemarin Grimberg (1931-2004) was an important Chilean educator who was awarded the National Prize in Learning Sciences in 2003 by the Chilean government. She was a struggler of her time because despite her humble origins and no involvement in elite groups, she achieved all her academic goals and obtained all the titles she wished not only in Chile, but also abroad. She devoted her life to a project that does not have great benefits such as caring and working for those poorest children with learning disorders, to make them read and write comprehensively and accurately. At the same time, she was proud of being a woman, and this fact was not a problem to work with both, men and women. This paper aims to reconstruct Mabel Condemarin's life, works and thoughts, whose written works are well-known and reedited in different Latin American countries; as well as some editions which have been translated into Portuguese for Brazilian readers.
