The fast growing Indian economy is reaching a point where quality becomes just as important as quantity. However, the quality concept is still somewhat vague to many people and too many companies. One way to make it more concrete is to calculate quality costs. Quality cost is a measure of how costly it is for the organization to lack in quality in any way. This way is easier to understand quality and to see which areas should be prioritized in the quality improvement work. This thesis makes an attempt to map out the quality cost of an Indian company. Based on the calculated quality costs areas of improvement potential are suggested to the management. These way the company’s improvement efforts can be directed to where they make the best use. Successful running, sound economy and profitability of an organization is entirely depends upon effective control of non-quality costs generated in an organization. This analysis of quality cost data has been done by using pareto analysis and effects of different cost elements of quality costs. Quality cost contains conformance costs - Prevention costs and Appraisal costs, non-conformance costs – Internal failure costs and External failure costs. Total quality costs can be controlled resulting considerable savings. This thesis discuss how quality has an impact on the costs of goods and services in an organization

The machining of hard composite materials causes serious tool wear due to the abrasive nature of reinforcement by conventional machining techniques. Therefore non- conventional machining techniques are used to machine such advanced materials. Wire cut electric discharge machining process is a non- conventional machining technique that fulfills the requirements of tooling and machining industries. Wire Electrical discharge machining (WEDM) has higher capability for cutting complex shapes with high precision for these materials without using high cost of cutting tools. The risk of wire bending and breakage is a serious problem, which reduce the efficiency and accuracy of the WEDM operation. The main causes of wire bending and breakage are energy between wire tool and work piece, dielectric fluid and wire material. This research paper highlights the review of the published work on WEDM which are related to energy, dielectric fluid and material of wire tool. The main purpose of this research paper is to investigate the effect of produced energy during operation, dielectric fluid and material of wire tool on the response parameters material removal rate, surface roughness and kerf width in wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM).

In this work, a finite element (FE) model of piezoelectric smart structures has formulated in ANSYS. The modal analysis of cantilever beam structure is carried out by using the Block Lanczos solver. The piezoelectric patches are located at the region of maximum strain for better control effect. The active vibration concept is demonstrated through simulation study in ANSYS for different shapes of actuators like rectangular, triangular s & rhombus. Closed loop simulation has also been done using strain feedback and displacement feedback. The tip displacements with and without the controller have been obtained and the performance of the proposed smart system is being evaluated for vibration control. From the responses of the each model with different shape of actuator patch, it has been observed that the control effect is better with rhombus patch.

ANFIS controller for the active vibration control (AVC) of a flexible plate with single input and single output fashion is designed tuned with LQR controller. ANFIS controller is one of the best controllers to control a specific action. MATLAB simulation software is exercised to design it effectively and with highly accurate results. Finite element modeling of plate is done to perform all tests. The LQR controller is utilized to make ANFIS controller for active vibration control by changing parameters like length, breadth, thickness of plate, sensor location and initial displacement to the smart structure. The accuracy of the ANFIS controller results are demonstrated by applying various random inputs that shows the robustness of the proposed controller.
