A female specimen of Alectis alexandrina (710 mm TL) was caught on 15 July 2019 by an angler from the Bay of Gökova, Muğla, at a depth of 4 m. The specimen has the maximum size throughout the Turkish seas and it is fourth finding of this species for the Turkish Aegean Sea.

In this study, the ichthyoplankton status of Gökova Inner Bay was evaluated in autumn. No data was available for that season until now. As a result of the sampling conducted at the creek outflows of Gökova Inner Bay (Kadın Creek and Akçapınar Creek) and the coastal area between creeks in October-November 2013, fish eggs and larvae belonging to 6 species and 5 families were detected. The recorded families are Sparidae, Callionymidae, Gobiidae, Soleidae, Bothidae which belong to groups that live in the shore. As a result, it is observed that fish reproduction activities in autumn in Gökova Inner Bay area continues at a low level. Moreover, although larvae of Gobius spp. and Soleidae eggs are found in Akçapınar Creek, no eggs or larvae are recorded in Kadın Creek. The number of individuals was found at a very low level (3 individual/10m³). The small number of species and individuals is related to the scarcity of nutrients in autumn and the reproduction periods of the fish species at the sampling dates.

In this study, European hake (Merluccius merluccius) is one of the most important demersal species of the Sea of Marmara, has been subjected to estimate variation in length and size distribution based on obtained data from Sea of Marmara. A total of 174 bottom trawl hauls were performed in 19 stations representing the entire Sea of Marmara from 1995 to 2016 (July and November 1995, March and October 1996, December 2009, December 2010, February 2011 and August 2016). The estimation of length-weight relationships (LWRs) and distribution of length frequency was estimated according to years and sexes. A total of 5453 speciemens were evaluated. Sex ratio was calculated as 1:1.2 males to females. Overall length-weight relations were estimated W=0.006L3.077 (r2=0.97) for females, W=0.008L2.97 (r2=0.95) for males. According to the length frequency results, observed changes were not significant in size distribution of the samples between 1995 to 1996 and from 2009 to 2011. However, the median value of the total lengths of the individuals obtained in the 90s is greater than the values obtained at the end of the 2000s. The size distributions of the samples obtained in the 1990s are in a wider range than the size range of samples in 2000s. Especially in 2009 and 2016, it was observed that the size distribution was very narrow, also very few large-sized individuals were obtained.

The results of the survey conducted on 59 fishermen have been evaluated within the scope of the study aiming at determining some data related to the socio-economic structure and fishing activities of the fishermen in the lakes of Eğirdir and Beyşehir in Isparta, and the lakes of Marmara and Demirköprü Dam in Manisa having great importance in terms of inland fishing. It has been determined that the highest percentage of fishermen was found to be between the ages of 46-65 in the other fishing grounds with the except of Beyşehir Lake. 75% of the fishermen in the other fishing places excluding Marmara Lake has been found married and the number of children, except for the Demirköprü Dam Lake, was mostly 1or 2. While the percentage of those fisherfolks was the highest in Beyşehir Lake (57.1%), it was followed by Demirköprü Dam Lake (50%), Eğirdir Lake (36.4%) and Marmara Lake (25%), respectively. The highest rate of fishing and agricultural income was found in Beyşehir Lake whereas the highest rate of agricultural and non-agricultural income sources as well as fishery was found in Lake Eğirdir. Materials of fishing vessels consist of fiber, wood and metal sheet. The 43.2% of fishing boats in Eğirdir Lake and the 75% of those in Demirköprü Dam Lake were 5-6 m length while all boats in Lake Beyşehir were 7.1-8 m length. The number of boats having 9-13 HP engine power was found to be higher in the lakes of Eğirdir and Beyşehir than that in the lakes of Marmara and Demirköprü Dam. It has been found that the fishing activities take place 5 days in a week in Eğirdir Lake and 7 days in the other three fishing grounds, and the daily fishing varied between 3-7 hours in all fishing grounds. The annual fishing income and expenditure values of Demirköprü Dam Lake, Marmara Eğirdir and Beyşehir Lakes was generally lower than TRY 25.000. It was found that fuelmaintenance and repair expenses were below TRY 5000 in all fishing grounds. Most of the fishermen in Marmara Lake have received a bank credit (20%: TRY 30.000) for purchasing a fishing tool while the ones in Eğirdir Lake have used this loan in order to buy a tractor as well as a fishing tool or for any other needs. It was seen that carp in Marmara Lake and Demirköprü Dam Lake and pikeperch in Beyşehir Lake were the species of fish mostly caught whereas the crayfish mostly caught in Lake Eğirdir. It has been determined that a trammel net was in use all of the fishing areas, and that trammel net, a crayfish trap and a fishing rod were not used at the same time. *This research is a part of Emre Yılmaz’s PhD Thesis.

The abundance of the peracarid crustacean fauna were studied on a spatial scale of Gokceada Island which is located Northern Aegean Sea. Samples were collected seasonally from 13 coastal stations at depth 0.1- 0.5 m, during years of 2010 and 2011. The surface was scraped by means 20 x 20 cm quadrats and sieving 0.5 mm mesh size. Result of identified and counting all peracarid species, a total of 142,906 individuals/m2 were obtained belonging to 88 species and 66 of them were new record for the island’s fauna. Amphipods were the dominant group both in terms of species Margalef richness and abundance. Ampithoe ramondi, Hyale schmidti and Elasmopus brasiliensis were the most abundant species. Number of species, density, richness, evenness, diversity of stations and similarity are also discussed.

Sensorial properties of healthy beverages as well as all foods, is an important issue in development of new food products. In general, the consumer interests are increasing in the healthy beverages and seafood. Although there is potential of processing unknown raw materials as beverages, their research on product development is limited. In studies related to new product development; it is expected that they should be acceptable in terms of sensorial and they should be sustainable and economical. Attention should be paid to species having economical value in spite of they are not among the traditional. With this context, chemical composition and importance of the seafood as an alternative food are known. In this study; sea urchin (Paracentrotus lividus) tests, which are considered to be waste were evaluated. Sea lettuce (Ulva rigida) and a local rice species called as Osmancık (Oryza sativa) were used to increasing the quality of the healthy drinks. Sensory analyzes were performed with expert panellists (10 people) for the products obtained with different formulations. According to sensory analysis; products were rated as good with 112.5 points in the by hedonic rating (0-150).
