The current literary context is giving moreand more attention to the visual text, with the gradual inflation of non-verbal communication, in this case, the visual communication. Thus, in this reflection we have chosen to focus on the socio-discursive aspects of the cover image of El cuarto mundoby Diamela Eltit, La rendiciónby Toni Bentley and El llanto de la perraby Guillermina Mekuy, in order to show how, through it, the body of the woman is instrumentalized in weapon of socio-cultural resistance. Thus, based on the semiotics of the image, following above all the methodological assumptions of Roland Barthes, we present the photos as a language; they appear as messages or visual texts, pointing out the terminology of Barthes and Umberto Eco, respectively, with a view to transparency of the underlying significant networks. It allows to unmask the erotic-subversive tension diffused between the textual lines, that is, to bring up to date the connotative halo that emerges from the apparent naturalness of the visual text. That said, this article looksat the image as a product of social resistance that can reveal structures of meaning, values, hierarchies and cultural models. So the cover images become literary incipit, because they carry in themselves the whole meaning of the novels still closed.
