This is an exploratory study, of bibliographical type, which aimed to verify and characterize the literary production of nurses on the topic of alcoholism published in the Annals of the Brazilian Nursing Congress, published in the period of 1998-2008. The sample consisted of 99 abstracts that were directly related to the topic. The data were categorized according to the assumptions of content analysis and resulted in seven categories of analysis. It was evident that there was an increase in the production on the subject over the period of 1998-2008, and that the alcoholic patient care was the theme most researched by nurses. It was concluded that, despite the increase in production on the subject, it is still in its infancy, suggesting that other studies of this nature are needed in order to map the production of nursing published in the scientific events in the area. This is a descriptive research, with qualitative approach, which aimed at analyze the interaction process between woman and her partner starting from the diagnosis of infection by the human papilomavirus (HPV). It was accomplished in 13 communities in the cities of Duque de Caxias and Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, from October/2006 to September/2008. Twenty women, diagnosed with HPV infection related to oncogenic high risk, were interviewed. The Symbolic Interactionism and Grounded Theory perspectives guided data collection and analysis. The results revealed that the HPV diagnosis means serious challenges in the women’s relationship with her partner mainly regarding to the adoption of preventive initiatives. It is concluded that these issues lead to the need of a humanized care in order to favor the women’s empowerment. Key words: Woman’s Health; Nursing; Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

Among newborns at risk, immunization becomes relevant due to its preventive characteristic. The research aimed to analyze the vaccination status of newborns at risk of Cuiabá-MT, as well as satisfaction and difficulties of mothers regarding immunization. This is descriptive study, quantitative, with 113 newborns at risk, selected by the Statement of Live Birth: 25.7% had delayed immunization, being the lack of vaccine at the Health Unit (50.0%) the reason most often reported. Of the children with delayed immunization, 65.5% had more than one vaccine late, 100% had weight less than expected, 75.9% were accompanied in their growth and development by the Health Unit, 69.0% had an episode of illness in the six first months of life, 41.4% of mothers were under 18 years. The mothers reported more difficulties to the immunization service. We emphasize the importance of strategies to improve the quality of care, structure of health services, reception and professional preparation. This study aimed to analyze the joint influence of background variables (age, gender, and income), weakness and sleep disorders on cognition in elderly community residents. This is an excerpt from the multicenter project Frailty in Elderly Brazilians (FIBER). We evaluated 878 patients, using socio demographic questionnaire, questions about sleep disorders (Nottingham Health Profile); issues nap (Minnesota Leisure Activity Questionnaire) and MMSE (cognitive screening). The Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis test and regression analysis were used univariate and multivariate data analysis, with a significance level of 5% (p <0.05). The results showed that elderly patients with lower MMSE scores were those with lower family income, female and older. Health professionals can develop preventive actions in relation to cognition, thus maintaining the autonomy and independence in daily activities of the elderly. This was a qualitative study with the purpose of designing a meta-model for the work process of the Family Health Strategy(FHS) team. It was based on the experience of six sample groups, composed of their members (physicians, professional nurses, dentists, dental assistants, licensed technical nurses and community health agents) in a city in São Paulo state, Brazil, totaling 54 subjects. Six theoretical models emerged from non-directive interviews. These were analyzed according to Grounded Theory and submitted to the meta-synthesis strategy, which produced the meta-model “between the processes of strengthening and weakening of the FHS model: professional-team-community reciprocity as an intervening component”. When analyzed in light of the Theory of Complexity (TC), it showed to be a work with a vertical and authoritarian tendency, which is largely hegemonic in the tradition of public health care policies. Analytical transversal study that was conducted with the objectives of identifying the prevalence and characterizing the accidents with biological material among professionals in pre-hospital service (PHS) and comparing the risk behaviors adopted by healthcare and non-healthcare groups that can affect the occurrence and seriousness of such accidents. Data were obtained by questionnaire applied to all PHS workers in Goiânia-GO. The study revealed a high prevalence of accidents involving biological material which, although higher for the healthcare group, also affected the non-healthcare group. There were significant (p < 0.05) risk behaviors for these accidents in both groups: not using gloves, masks or eye protectors; inappropriate disposal of sharps; inadequate dress; re-capping of needles; and a lack of immunization against hepatitis B. The results underscore the importance of both groups in adhering to preventive measures, and further point to the need to structure and implement vigilance and control system for this type of accident. A study of descriptive, exploratory and retrospective study with a quantitative approach is to evaluate the expansion of graduate programs in nursing in the state of Piauí in the period 1973 to 2008. It was researched, aided by a form, all ten institutions of higher education in this period, in Piauí. The results pointed to an expansion of nursing programs in the last 10 years, growth in the period 1973 to 2008 in the order of 1.300%. There was a total of 2,949 licensed nurses per capita showing a relation for Piaui of 0.93 nurse/1.000 inhabitants. From the data of the study there is the potential of Piauí in training nurses, with growth of courses and places. Thus, stirs up to refl ection on the part of institutions and professional bodies as to the relative labor market and demand for graduates, quality control and course vacancies offered. This work aimed at clarifying the concept learning in online education, expressed by the literature in the area of health. It is a study of analysis of concept, based on the Evolutionary Model, being highlighted attributes, background, consequents and substitute terms. Learning in the context of online education is characterized by a dynamic and continuous process of active construction of knowledge and acquisition of skills, with physical separation between students and teachers. Among the background events discussed stood out: interest and motivation in learning; dedication and time self-management; and interaction and communication tools. The main evident consequents were: student’s autonomy; independent and active study; and construction of own knowledge. The prevailing substitute terms were collaborative learning and self-learning. The understanding of the concept can contribute to its implementation in nursing teaching activities in virtual environments. The research identified clinical studies on the brief interventions for the abusive use of alcohol and analyzed the effectiveness of professional advises proposed to alcohol consumers. The systematic bibliographical study was based on articles published during the period of 1997 to 2010. Brief intervention strategy is effective in the reduction on the frequency and amount of alcohol use, with better results when the strategy is applied to the primary attention situations. All professionals obtained good results using this therapy. It was not possible to determine if the strategy is most effective when applied to harmful drinkers or to chronic drinkers, since the intervention also depends on the patient’s availability of motivational resources and on changes in attitude regarding the abusive use of alcohol. As AIDS advances in Brazil, the Ministry of Health felt the need to sensitize and to train health professionals to work with questions provoked by this infection or by the disease. The implantation of counseling centers and support serological support (CTA) arose and became the main reference in counseling. The HIV / AIDS counseling is a device used by health professionals seeking to work information, guidance, risk assessment and support in accomplish the anti-HIV serology. However, it is necessary that this strategy have theoretical and philosophical fundaments that serve to underpin the counselor’s clinical practice. Therefore, this article aimed to present the main presuppositions of some psychological counseling theories and its relation to the practice of HIV/AIDS counseling. It is believed that these reflections can contribute to substantiate theoretically the professionals who perform HIV/AIDS counseling, confi guring it as a device for health promotion.
