This paper is a contribution to the 80th years of the Brazilian Nursing Journal, official journal of the Brazilian Nurses Association, first nominated Nursing Annals and created in May 1932. At that time, the issues were focused as proposals to assure exchange communication between the Professional Class – the National Brazilian Graduate Nurses Association – and the associates, including all the people. In this way, the associate leaders were impelled through professional advances allied to the knowledge production regarding to the Professional Know/Knowledge, the practice assistance and education. The approach is through discussion and analytical appreciation about professional identity with punctual reconsiderations in philosophical vision. Instead of researching parameters the author prefers a pragmatic style around examples of three situations-problem as succeeded in the practical assistance, so that they could be critically appreciated alike fundamental basis to the nurses’ art and enough to assure the definition of the professional profile in the historical-evolutive trajectory – with beginning in the nightingalean modernity and the proper assumed parsonian concepts – as such they are observed in the Brazilian Nursing literature. The article aimed to reflect upon the challenges involved in strengthening Nursing as a caring science. It is founded on the sociological theory, connecting three approaches: the historical-dialectic materialism perspective about the working process in health care and nursing; the sociology of professions from a critical perspective; and the philosophy of science. The discussion is organized considering the aspects of Nursing as a discipline, work and health care profession. It sustains that knowledge production should be driven both by the purpose of Nursing work which is providing care to human beings with health needs and to advocate for the indispensable work conditions to a safe and responsible practice. It concludes that to strengthening Nursing it is necessary to produce knowledge to support nursing care and the political actions defending safe work conditions, the universal right to health as well safe and high quality care. The aim was to describe aspects of the nursing evolution in the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico – CNPq), focusing on the organizational structure and positions of the Area Representation and the advances in nursing knowledge. This is an experience report, accompanied by reflections and attitudes towards science, technology and innovation of Brazilian nursing and the creation of the Nursing Advisory Committee at the CNPq, in 2006. This paper is intended for the special issue of the Brazilian Nursing Journal (Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem), a prominent scientific nursing journal of nursing, in the celebration of its 80 years of existence. The article aimed to recover historical and synthesis of discussions within the National Seminar on Nursing Research (SENPE) about research lines, materializing in this context, the construction of nursing knowledge. This is a documentary research, whose sources were the Annals of sixteen SENPE, conducted from 1979 to 2011. It was observed that the discussion on the research lines was a constant concern in those Seminars, although with different gradations, from its genesis to the present time. The scenario configures itself with the inclusion of adverse consequences of the quantitative production and dissemination of studies without necessarily articulated them with a praxis purpose. The concerns externalized in the trajectory analyzed inaugurate the search for praxis in nursing to contribute to the discussion of the research from the perspective of the political nature of the construction, dissemination and evaluation of knowledge, from the understanding of the contradictions inherent in this process. Nursing is a specific field of knowledge and social practice that has been consolidated and strengthened as science. In Brazil, it has been developed due to the increase and qualification of strict sense post-graduate programs. This study aims to present a historical review of the strict sense post-graduate nursing courses in Brazil and to reflect on their evolution, progress, challenges and future perspectives. It explores the creation of strict sense post-graduate courses, highlighting the movement to build a culture of academic and professional post-graduation in nursing. The historical path of their consolidation, expansion, conquest of excellence and international visibility over four decades, and the challenges and future perspectives are showed. It is found that the post-graduate programs in the field has contributed to the advancement and consolidation of scientific, technological knowledge and innovation in nursing and health care, having as philosophy the respect for diversity and the free exchange of ideas, the improvement of quality of life and health, and the effectiveness of citizenship. The Curriculum Guidelines of the Undergraduate Nursing are references to the strengthening of the changes in training of professionals critics and committed to health. Seeking to identify these changes, this study aimed to analyze the progress and challenges of a decade of these Guidelines. This is a documentary research, in which it was analyzed the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education, the CNE / CES Resolution n º 03/2001, and the Brazilian intellectual production on the theme in the decade of 2001 to 2011. This production was sought in scientific journals, through the data bases BDENF, SciELO and LILACS. The analysis was anchored on the methodological framework of the dialectic which provided the study of the subject in its dynamism, contradictions and all of its inclusion in public policy. The research aimed to analyze the production of knowledge in nursing at a public university, in order to evaluate the impact of that production during the Nursing Graduation. An exploratory and descriptive research has been done in two stages. The first one consisted of gathering the reports of researches executed by the teachers who coordinated them from 2000 to 2009. As a result of this stage, it was mapped the type of studies performed, the themes and the theoretical and methodological references most utilized. During the second stage we studied the current pedagogical project used in the Graduation course, and crossed the data with the previously, to create a dimension to some of the transpositions and applications of the knowledge produced by the researches to the Nursing Graduation course. We concluded that, in different ways, not only the application of the studies has been occurring but also the transposition of ideals that cross through the research groups to which they belong, being able to bring change to nursing education. The standardized language systems are important tools for dealing with the increasing complexity of nursing care. In this article the authors present the main benefits that the use of these systems provide for the required clinical reasoning in nursing care, the construction and organization of knowledge of the discipline, and for the clinical practice of nursing. The potential contributions of the standardized language systems in these fields stem from the fact that these systems provide a formal structure for supporting clinical reasoning, organizing knowledge and nursing experience. The study aimed at analyzing socio-demographic and working characteristics of nurses from public hospitals. It was carried out a cross-sectional study, involving 3.229 nurses from the eighteen largest public hospitals of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was observed a feminine predominance (87.3%), with mean age of 39.9±10 years. Around 7% referred having master or doctorate degree, 58.5% got their degree from public institutions and 24.5% used to work at the health sector before becoming nurses. Half the group has thought of abandoning their career, and almost a quarter is unsatisfied with their profession. Around 10% searched for a job outside nursing area in the previous month and 30% searched for a job in the same working area. Night work, engagement in more than one job and long professional work hours were more frequently found among men. The study has pointed challengeable aspects of nurses’ profession. Results can subsidize support strategies to improve the working conditions in public hospitals due to their comprehensiveness. This is a historical-social study, which aimed to analyze and argue the on the importance of the Brazilian Nursing Memory Centre for preservation and publicity of the professional memory. As data sources it was used the documentary Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem: 1926-1976, and the Project of Implantation and the Technical Report of the Memory Centre’s Documentary and Phonic Collection, both filed in the referred Centre. The data, collected in June 2013, were subjected to external and intern criticism, aiming to its validation. The analysis occurred concurrently with data collection and was made based on knowledge about the topic, supported by Bourdieu’s concept of habitus. It was observed that, since 1926, the directions of the Brazilian Nursing Association contributed for the Memory Centre implantation, by means of the importance attributed to the preservation of the memory. It was concluded that the memory enshrined in the collection constitutes material and symbolic goods for the Brazilian nursing to be transmitted through the historiography derived from it. This paper aimed to consider the creation of the Scientific Department of Gerontological Nursing within the Brazilian Nursing Association, considering the context of population ageing, and the development and consolidation of this specialty in the country. In the reflexive process, it was possible to rely on the historical analysis of the revised literature and authors’ reports. The results showed the movement of nurses, in recent decades, to the production of knowledge, as well as their incorporation by the entity, and the commitment of its members to achieve the goals proposed to the Scientific Department of Gerontological Nursing. It is concluded that its creation represents a milestone to the scientific and political organization of the nursing professionals who seek to qualify themselves for an autonomous and competent care of the elderly and their families. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of nurses in the prescription of hormonal reversible contraceptives in Primary Care. A descriptive and transversal study was conducted, with 64 nurses at healthcare units as subjects, in the period of September-November 2010 in the county of Rio Branco-Acre. Data were collected through structured interviews using a questionnaire. The results showed that 96.9% of nurses are prescribing hormonal contraceptives and that the majority (90.6%) is aware of the government laws about nursing prescription. We also observed that the contraceptive was chosen based on client’s decision and anamnesis (36% and 34% respectively), and that 90% of the nurses always give orientation about advantages and disadvantages of each contraceptive method. Thus, for choosing a contraceptive method based on given information and free will, the methods must be available and dispensed by trained professionals, after correct and complete orientation. This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research, aiming to describe the set of ideas and knowledge that guide the use of complementary and integrative health practices (CIHP) by nurses, and analyze the challenges facing the applicability of these therapies by nurses in the hospital setting. The subjects were nurses in public hospital institutions of Rio de Janeiro. Data collection was done through semi-structured interviews and a technique of creativity and sensibility called Almanac. The results showed that the hegemony of the biomedical model in the formation and performance of health professionals hinders implementation of CIHP in hospital. However, as this model does not account for the complexity of the human being emerges the possibility of sharing with CIHP in care aiming, therefore, at comprehensiveness of the human being. In order to analyze the multiple causes of occupational accidents with biological exposure among nursing staff was carried out a descriptive and exploratory research in a medium-sized hospital in the State of Paraná, in the period between January 2008 and January 2009. The population was 26 nursing staff of the medical clinic. Data collection was performed by semi-structured interviews with five of the eight injured in the period and its contents were analyzed by Causes and Effects Diagram. The categories of causes material, organizational, institutional and worker’s behavior, showed the inappropriate disposal of sharps, work overload, no use of bio-security standards and poor supervision and training of workers, as factors for the occurrence of these accidents. The adoption of the tool of Causes and Effects Diagram provided an analysis of accidents in its multiple causes, showing the interaction between them. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out during the second half of 2011, in a Pediatric Unit in a city in the extreme South of Brazil. The study aimed to understand the situations in which families reveal themselves as beings of rights during the hospitalization of the child. Fifteen family caregivers participated, divided into three sample groups. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, and the data were analyzed using open, axial and selective analysis. The study had the Grounded Theory as methodological framework. It was found that the family revealed itself as a being of rights, when recognized as such, is called and fights for their rights; suggests improvements for the care and maintains its autonomy, even if it has to submit to the decisions of the team in the child favor. It was concluded that is essential to allow them to be families in the hospital, enabling the exercise of their rights and citizenship. This ethnographic study aimed to understand the rituals of care performed by families, while preparing for the experience of planned home birth. 25 families participated in the period September 2010 to April 2011. The techniques of data collection were participant observation and interview. Through the processes of apprehension, synthesis, theorization and re-contexture, two categories emerged: The house to be born in and Preparing baby’s arrival. Homebirth is an experience built within the pregnant couple. The house is considered the sacred place to experience childbirth, aggregating existential values to the physiological act of giving birth. Understanding these rituals contributes to offer a nursing care of quality in order to respect the cultural aspects involved in this assistance. Qualitative research whose objective was to understand the social representations of the body by women with alterations caused by leprosy, for nursing care can meet more broadly to your needs. The theoretical framework was the social representations. Fortythree women participated, all of them from a reference unit specialized in sanitary dermatology. Interviews were conducted, which contents were processed by the software ALCESTE, generating a class whose words were associated with preconception anchored in the negative perception of leprosy. The explanatory framework of social representations showed a strong brand of the social memory of leprosy, whose symbolic construction sustains itself on fear of the disease. It was concluded on the need to invest in the deconstruction of archaic beliefs about leprosy so that to have new ways of acting towards the disease. This study aimed to analyze the functional capacity of elderly registered in Basic Health Units of Guarapuava-PR, Brazil. The subjects were 359 elderly, interviewed from January to April 2010, using Section I and IV of the questionnaire Brazil Old Age Schedule. The results showed that 89.9% had some degree of dependency, of which 70.8% light and 19.2% moderate or severe dependence. Women have a higher degree of mild (70.5%) and moderate and severe dependence (62.3%). Factors associated with the degree of dependence among the elderly living in Guarapuava were age, schooling, living arrangements, employment, place of residence, marital status and family income. It is concluded that most of the elderly in the community is affected by limitations and live with some kind of dependence to perform basic activities of daily living. This study uses a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interview for analyzing the social control perspective of health counselors, considering that there are still challenges for the consolidation of community participation. It was identified that some counselors do not recognize the social participation as a Single Health System directive. Despite the recognition of the councils as deliberative spaces, there are difficulties such as the centralization of decisions in the management, an over evaluation of technical knowledge and lack of health conferences. There are limitations on the exercise of effective advisory role because of the influence of the municipal administration, difficulties of communication with the bases of representation and access to information. It is concluded that it is necessary to search for the strengthening of social control to highlight the continuing health education for empowerment of counselors inside the councils established by the Health Pact. This is a qualitative, descriptive, exploratory and analytical research, with documentary basis. The objective was to characterize and analyze teaching trends found in scientific articles related to the topic Education in Nursing, captured from the publication of the researchers of Research Groups in Nursing Education of the State of São Paulo from 2004 to 2010. We identified the following teaching trends: Traditional, Renewed, Tecnicist, Liberating and Critical Social-Contents. We analyzed 131 studies, of which 46.56% are graded in trends centrally marked by political and social concerns. He noticed a movement in search of intense transformation of Nursing Education within Research Groups. A large concentration of studies grounded in liberating tendencies or the ambition to adopt such postures, reveals a positive factor of Research Groups in Nursing Education. This is an experience report on the use of an instrument to collect data from primary sources available on the Internet. Considering the advances in technology that are changing the formation and the professional scenarios, the use of informatics in nursing research encourages the development of methodologies and information search. This study described since the construction of the instrument to collect data and revealed the possibility of facilities like approach much interviewed and offered a similar instrument used by professionals. The main difficulty was the low rate of response. It was considered a positive experience and even the low return of responses did not compromise the results of the qualitative study. It is expected that, in the near future, professionals use computational tools and make them instruments of performance in the routine of health services. Understanding that care to preterm infants goes through the various steps that are sometimes intertwined in the predominant routine in neonatal intensive care units, requires that the professionals understand the subtleties that hold between caring in the sense of activities and procedures performed in day-to-day, and caring in the existential sense of being and caring for others. This study, in a Heideggerian phenomenological approach, aimed to reveal the existential sense of caring for mothers of premature babies admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units. After approval by the Research Ethics Committee, it was conducted interviews with nine mothers. The analysis by the Heideggerian method unveiled that the being-mother, while being-with-the-son, also feel cared for by professionals who provide that faces this existential moment in a safer manner. The study aimed to evaluate the growth and development of institutionalized children from 0-6 years old. It had a descriptive, transversal and quantitative approach, and was held in a shelter from the Bureau of Labor and Social Development of the Government of the State of Ceará, in the months of March and April 2011. The sample comprised 44 children. It the sample prevailed male children (59.1%), aged 24 to 72 months (56.8%) and with time of sheltering more than one year (72.7%). It was found that the children were in the normal range of nutrition; however, 65.9% of children did not achieve at least one of the development milestones proposed by the Ministry of Health. The study suggests a reflection on how children living in shelters are being assisted by the health team, making it necessary follow up their growth and development, in order to intervene on the alterations. This study aimed to describe the contributions of nursing in the family relationships of scholars who have changes in school behavior and performance. It’s an action research, based on the questioning method, using the Arc Method, implemented in five stages: reality observation, key-points, theory, possible solutions, and application to reality. The research happened in a municipal school, located in the west of Santa Maria-RS. 25 scholars’ families participated in the sample, during March to May of 2012. It was noticed that the dream of having an ideal family exists, but the lived reality is still permeated by a lot of difficulties and require modifications. Thus, take care of the family relationships shows up as a possibility of society to develop worthily, considering the powerful influence it has on the people character development and formation. Objective of this study was to identify the socio demographic profile and drug use in elderly enrolled in a health unit and to propose nursing actions through identification of diagnoses and prescriptions related, focused on the use of drugs, targeted to these elderly. This descriptive study was conducted in a family health unit, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with 97 elderly. For data collection it was used a structured form. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. it was used Risner’s model of diagnostic reasoning for the identification of nursing diagnosis. The elderly used 3.46 drugs and 31.86%, five or more. Seven nursing diagnosis were identified. Those diagnoses were present in at least ten elderly for whom prescriptions related were established. The results of this study may assist in achieving effective action for the resident elderly who uses drugs. Key words: Aged; Nursing; Drug Utilization.

This study aimed to identify factors related to death in Pandemic Influenza A(H1N1)2009 in patients treated with Oseltamivir. It is an observational and retrospective study, carried out with data of patients who had presented laboratorial diagnosis of the illness. Data were collected from the notification forms of the disease, belonging to a database of the Ministry of Health. Statistical analysis was performed by chi-square, Student t test and logistic regression, considering significant p values <0,05. The highest mortality was observed in patients aged between 20 and 59 years, low schooling, with the presence of comorbidities, not vaccinated, treated late and had more severe symptoms of infection. The identification of risk factors for death reinforces the need for prevention and early care, especially in the presence of factors that increase the clinical severity of disease. This is a qualitative study, anchored in the Theory of Social Representation and Jodelet thoughts, realized in an Intensive Care and Oncology Unit of a university hospital. The objective was to understand the social representations of nurses on religiosity while caring for dying patients. The data was collected between 2010May and August, using the technique of Content Analysis of Bardin. The religiosity representations inserted in the caring practice for dying patients, value professional’s beliefs about death, its meaning allowing for the development of coping mechanisms. It is considered that the awareness will occur through the understanding of reality and introducing the theme in the discussion of the quality of health and training of professionals. The study aimed to identify the advantages and constraints in the practices of nurses in Mental Health services. A qualitative descriptive study, was conducted in 22 public mental health services in the state of Goiás, involving 21 nurses as subjects. The evaluation referential of Avedis Donabedian was used for data discussion. Regarding the facilitating aspects, it were cited the availability of physical resources, furniture and materials for the workshops, professional and interpersonal relationships with staff, and coordination with users. Among the constraining aspects also predominated the structure that is offered by the services. Hydrocolloid and calcium alginate are used to treat cutaneous injuries and many health professionals do not know about its cicatrization effects. This study had the objective to identify the evidences of the action of the hydrocolloid and calcium alginate dressing in the treatment of cutaneous injuries. The method of integrative review was used. 12 studies with evidence levels I, II, III and IV were part of the sample; they were composed by patients with cutaneous injuries treated in any period of time with hydrocolloid dressing or calcium alginate. The evaluated outcomes had been reduction of the area, cicatrization of the injury, rate of cicatrization, time and infection. The results had allowed establishing three recommendations for the use of hydrocolloid and none for use of alginate of calcium in the treatment of chronic injury. The Demand Control model aims to evaluate the occupational stress. This study aimed to know, through an integrative review of the literature, the scientific production about the Demand Control Model to investigation occupational stress among nursing professionals from 2000 to 2011.Of the 16 selected studies, five were published in 2009. Of these studies, 56.25% assessed the Demand and Control dimensions and their correlations with workers´ health problems; 37.5% of these studies were related with mental health. The results showed a lack of national publications. We recommend that authors conduct experimental studies to reduce the occupational stress for better conditions of workers’ mental health. Qualitative research conducted in a diabetes service in the countryside of the state of Ceará, Brazil, with 11 teenagers with diabetes mellitus. The study aimed to understand the experience of adolescents facing the process of living with diabetes. Data were collected in 2007 May and June, through semi-structured interviews. It was observed that the teenager faces difficulties since the moment of diagnosis, especially because their food habits and lifestyles need to change, triggering feelings like fear, insecurity and anger. Over time, they incorporate the necessary changes to treatment and care, and begin to see the disease as normal. One concludes that it is necessary to understand teenagers, their behaviors, fears and desires and support them in the different areas of this experience. This research aimed to analyze the intersection between sexuality and nursing care as a social practice. It has a qualitative approach, having as theoretical reference the Feminist Theory of the Point of View and gender as an analytical category. It was developed with nine nurses from Barbacena, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The empirical material was produced through life stories and analyzed through critical discourse analysis. The results show that sexuality has a transversality that crosses the ways of caring in their different manners and places: from the direct care with the body of the other to the difficulties presented by some nurses to deal with situations that do not fi t to socially accepted norms of heterosexuality. The study aimed to identify risk factors for the development of cervical cancer in women prisoners. Cross sectional study with a quantitative approach carried out in a female penal institute on the state of Ceará, Brazil. The selection of the sample occurred according to the availability of female prisoners at the time of collection, with a total of 36 women prisoners. Regard to the risks for cervical cancer, 16 (44,5%) women were smokers, 24 (70.5%) have made use of the oral contraceptive for a median of 46 months, 24 (66,6%) began their sexual lives with less than 15 years, and 26 (72,2%) reported use of condoms, but 10 (38,4%) of them used it rarely. These fi ndings demonstrate that the prisoner female population is more vulnerable to the cervical cancer, requiring the health promotion in the correctional institution environment, since that time is configured as a unique opportunity. Cross-sectional study, quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research, which aimed to evaluate the profile and quality of pharmacotherapy prescribed to elderly residents in long-stay institutions located in Londrina-PR. The population consisted of 203 elderly patients with predominantly female, mean aged 76.4 years. It was found that 97.0% of the population used one drug. One hundred and fi fty one different active ingredients were prescribed, with an average of 5.3 per elderly. From all of the individuals surveyed, 59.9% were subjected to polypharmacy. It was identifi ed 359 possible drug interactions, and 58.1% of the elderly were exposed to these events. The study aimed to build an instrument to collect nursing data for patients in a General ICU, based in Horta. Action research developed in three phases: identification of the empirical indicators in hospitalized adults in a General ICU; validation of the indicators and formatting of the preliminary instrument; apparent and content validation with a posterior arrangement of the instrument final version. A number of 545 empirical indicators were identified, remaining 179 with IC ≥ 0.80, being the final version of the instrument structured in four main areas: Identification, Interview, Physical Examination, Nurse Impressions and Intercurrences. It is believed that this instrument will identify situations of health and disease and nursing care needs; will promote a more effective interpersonal relationship among nurses, clients and families; will disclose the imperative of the systematization of nursing care on quality of care, as well as raise new researches working with Nursing own tools. This is a qualitative study with phenomenological approach. It aimed at showing, under the light of Martin Heidegger’s thoughts, the ways of being nurse-teachers in the experience of teaching-learning nursing care in a higher education federal institution in Southern of Brazil. The technique used to capture meanings was the phenomenological interview with 11 teachers. Data analysis allowed the identification of the theme Ways of Being nurse-teachers, which were didactically presented in two units of meaning: Ways of Being nurse for care; Ways of being teacher in teaching care. Some teachers identify themselves as nurses, their professional experiences are their basis and coexistence with others serves as example. Others perceive themselves as nursing teachers and they wish to teach the strengths and difficulties of being a nurse, and improve care through research. This research aimed to identify and analyze the elements that constitute the representations of nurses and users about the humanization of care, and to discuss strategies that can contribute to the implementation of the National Humanization Policy. Twelve professionals who were working effectively in nursing care and fifteen users hospitalized adults participated in the research, all of the medical clinic of a federal public hospital. Semi-structured individual interviews were used to generate data, to which the technique of thematic content analysis was applied. The conceptions about humanization refer to social issues, which show the relationship between professionals and users in nursing care; and, also, to management issues, which show the difficulties in health care facilities to obtain a humanized approach. The discussion with those involved in the process presents itself as a strategy for the scope of the precepts of the National Policy of Humanization. The study aimed to analyze the methodological course for translation and adaptation of scales in dissertations and theses of Brazilian nursing in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health. It is an integrative review of Brazilian dissertations and theses available in the electronic catalog of the Brazilian Nursing Association, in the period from 2000 to 2009, being identified three theses which composed the elements of the study. The three analyzed theses had Beaton et al. as a methodological reference; however, they differ in the followed path as suggested by those authors. It was noticed a prevalence of non-uniformity of the process of translation and transcultural adaptation, as well as no detailed information regarding the methodological course. The study identified the main focus of production of Brazilian nursing on the type of research methodology in the area of sexual and reproductive health, as well as compliance with the steps required to do so. This paper describes an experience that occurred in the municipality of Uruoca-CE, Brazil, where nurses from the Family Health Strategy involved a group of teenagers in practices of health promotion. Pregnant women were chosen as priority because of their resistance to perform dental consultation and small family participation in prenatal care. It was built up a play for the pregnant women and their families, focusing on the theme, in which the adolescents were the writers, set designers and actors. There was a significant involvement of the teenager group in planning and implementing of the activities, as well as greater understanding of the relationship between community participation and health promotion. This is an experience report on the PRÓ-CUIDEM project, in meetings coordinated by nurse teachers in Niterói-RJ, Brazil. The results are focused on caregivers who need guidance, expressed during the group meetings, where their doubts are clarified, making them feel less anxious and more willing to take care of the elderly, with understanding of the elderly’s health problem and, especially, to take care of their own health. One conclude that caring for the elderly with dementia is a difficult task when there is no support and guidance, being of fundamental importance the nursing care aiming to improve the caregivers’ quality of life and, in consequence, the quality of life of the elderly with dementia. It is considered that, when there is the first episode of schizophrenia, family life is disrupted and their life trajectory can be modified. In view of this, the aim of this study was to know the trajectory of families in the first five years of living with mental illness, identifying the adjustment process. The research was based in Symbolic Interactionism. The individual interviews were realized with 23 relatives of 21 patients with schizophrenia. The analysis aimed at determining a timeline, which allowed us to describe the process of family adjustment through three times: Perceiving the Change, Diagnosis and Begin of Treatment and Following in Front. In Brazil, there is a lack of complete records on death certificates, and its reliability is questioned, especially for causes attributed to pregnancy and childbirth. We investigated, based on death certificates of women in reproductive age, any fields for identifying maternal deaths. Documentary research, conducted in hospital records. We analyzed in death certifi cates, maternal and no maternal deaths, inconclusive deaths and hidden deaths. To analyze the underlying causes of death we used ICD 10th Revision. Of the 301 death certificates reviewed, 60% had the fi elds 43/44 completed, and 40% had these fields blank and/or ignored. We found 58.5% of no maternal deaths, 2% of maternal deaths and 39.5% inconclusive. The analysis of inconclusive deaths allowed us to classify 4.3% as hidden deaths. To overcome the incompletitudes of civil registries, it is necessary that all health professionals be committed to the reliability of the information, so the priority target could be reached. This study is characterized as a qualitative research with the objective of unveiling the perception and experience regarding the antiretroviral treatment of the adolescent with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. The research was carried out within reference health care centers in two municipalities from the southern region of Brazil. The data production was developed through the creativity and sensitiveness dynamics of talking map type by a group of five participants. One applied the technique of content thematic analysis. The artistic productions and testimonies evidenced their daily experience with use of medications and the silence on the diagnosis of the disease and its treatment that implies the health care. The conclusion drawn is that the involvement of health professionals is needed since it opens spaces for the family besides promoting the dialogue of its members with the adolescent aiming at the adhesion to the treatment. This qualitative study aimed to identify difficulties experienced by Community Health Agents (CHA) in the course of daily practice of care. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews with twelve CHA from four Basic Health Units in a city of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. From an analysis of the speech of subjects, we found that the deficiency of health services, the workload of the nurses responsible for the team and the service rejection by users make it difficult to implement the health actions. This research emphasizes the limitations expressed by the health agents, and points towards the necessity of an evolving discussion of this theme, seeking strategies that enable the consolidation of community health principles. This research searched to verify if the nurses of a private hospital in São Paulo-SP, Brazil, have costs management view and to observe how occur their participation in the planning levels, specifically in relation to the costs. Forty nurses were interviewed during their journey through a questionnaire about caring costs management and the levels of organizational planning. It was observed that 85% of the nurses interviewed affirmed that they don’t participate on the caring costs management, and that 45% of the participants didn’t know to explain the importance of this knowledge. The majority of the nurses interviewed (62.5%) affirmed that they don’t participate of the strategic institutional planning and, among those that participated; the majority didn’t know to explain about their participation. The study aimed to assess the effects of a music therapy program on the level of stress for female professionals working in a private hospital in Rio de Janeiro-RJ, Brazil. Thirty four female volunteers with 33.3 ± 8.5 years of age from different levels of professional participated in the study. We used the Lipp’s inventory of symptoms of stress for adults (ISSL) to evaluate the level of stress of participants before and after music therapy. The program consisted of twelve sessions using the techniques of music therapy Improvisation and Musical Re-creation held once a week with 50 minutes / session in a period of three months. The Wilcoxon test for repeated measures was used for statistical analysis. The study showed a statistically significant decrease (Δ = - 60%, p <0.001) in the level of stress professionals studied after the music therapy program. In conclusion, the present study that the music therapy program was effective in decrease the level of stress of women health professionals working in a private hospital in Rio de Janeiro-RJ, Brazil. This study aimed at understanding the meaning of leadership to undergraduate nursing students and the expectation related to their professional practice. Phenomenology was used as theoretical framework. Fifteen undergraduate nursing students were recruited as subjects and answered the following question: “What do you understand by leadership, and how can it be applied in your professional practice?” The topics which were revealed and analyzed, Leadership Styles and Leadership Exercise, enabled us to understand that the meaning attributed to leadership is unveiled as a dynamic process, and the style adopted is the form to lead a team; therefore, an ideal leadership style does not exist. In teaching, the leadership style began to be discussed when the participant forms of personnel management were approached. In leadership practice, the dissociation between leadership theory and practice is emphasized, pointing out that integration with practice is relevant for leadership learning. This article is an integrative review that aimed to evaluate the available evidence in the literature on the development of strategies operationalized by community health agents for health promotion. Three databases were used – BDTD, LILACS and SciELO – and 2,179 publications were found, of which 58 were selected for analysis. The results were summarized in three empirical categories: Health promotion: challenges in reorienting the health care model, Educational practice in the daily work of community health agents and Vocational training in the perspective of Primary Health Care. The conclusion is that the construction of a model of care based on health promotion requires the incorporation of new educational, care-related and institutional practices. This study aims to identify the scientific production in Latin America about the safety of aged people in the ICU and adverse events dealt in the literature. It is a systematic revision, with indexed key words. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were respected. Twenty papers were selected for analysis. Most of them were carried out after the year 2000, in Brazil, by professional nurses and physicians, dealing mostly with adverse events connected to mistakes with medicines, accidental remove of probes and catheters, nosocomial infections, errors in the procedure techniques and occurrence of pressure sores. In the selected papers there were no mentions to adverse events related to behavior changes. The scientific production about the theme is still recent in Latin America, tending to increase. Its necessary to increase the focus to the aged population in these units, taking into account the possible risk to which they are exposed.
