Descriptive-exploratory study carried out in a hospital from Fortaleza, CE, Brazil to evaluate the characteristics of nursing professionals with High Blood Pression from a hospital for cardiovascular diseases. In the population of the nursing staff, the sample had 130 participants, who met the criteria for inclusion. Data were collected through interviews and sociodemographic characteristics were predominant: average level (72.3%), female (79.2%), age> 40 years (79.2%), married (41.5%) and non-whites (65.4%). Non-modifiable risk factors identified: familial history (71.5%). The modifiable were: diabetes mellitus (24.6%), smoking (35.4%), alcoholism (43.8%), inadequate diet (68.5%), hyperlipidemia (24.6%) and sedentary (62.3%). It is be necessary to develop strategies for health education and program monitoring of health professionals, in order to control blood pressure and preventing cardiovascular complications. Pregnancy in adolescence is a public health problem, and relapse rates make it even more serious. Out of 1.1 million parturient adolescents, 25% have a child already. We aimed to analyze the social economic cultural obstetric factors of relapse into pregnancy in adolescence in Teresina, PI, Brazil through interelational retrospective study. The sample contains 464 young who finished a gestation during the first four months in 2006. Out of those, 47.6% were in consensual union; 69.6% out of school; 86.9% with inappropriate schooling for the age; 72.2% with unpaid job. This profile evidences the lack of public policies that consider the adolescent. The elaboration and development of those policies should include family, school and the community in order to decrease pregnancy and sexually-transmited diseases rates. This study aimed to evaluate qualitatively the care offered to families for a Center of Psychosocial Atention of type I, located in Southern Region of Brazil. The Dialectical hermeneutic circle was used as a technique of data collection, a method recommended by the Fourth Generation Evaluation proposed by Guba and Lincoln. Topics such as reception, family meetings, home visits and involvement of family emerged in interviews with family members of this health service. Interviews and observations were the techniques used to collect data. The way has been consolidated to care for families in services represents a challenge for health professionals, since it entails the restructuring and formation of a reflection of all the actors involved in this process of change. Objective: to understand the relationship between spirituality and cancer under cancer patients’ perspective. Method: qualitative study, with the participating of fourteen cancer patients under chemotherapy treatment and analyzed according to inductive thematic content analysis. Results: reports were organized into three categories: cancer diagnosis, faith for coping to the cancer, the search for cancer cure. It was understood that cancer patients search spirituality as a way to cope with the disease, aiming to minimize their suffering or obtaining a higher hope of cure with treatment. Final consideration: the central theme “cancer frightens and spirituality renews” shows the importance of recognizing spirituality as a coping strategy in planning care to cancer patients. This study aimed to understand the experience of women staff employed in a textile industry from Ceara State, Brazil, after returning to work, compared to the process of breastfeeding or weaning. Qualitative research carried out in June 2007 with five working mothers. The stories of these women, from a set of open-ended questions revealed difficulties in reconciling work and breast feeding, because of their beliefs and lack of social and institutional support. The poor conditions of work which these women are exposed are also determining factors in the continuation or discontinuation of breast feeding, being necessary to extend the improvements in institutions with childcare, milk collection places and escorting permanently of these women, when produce their return to work. This article aimed at analyzing the work processes of nurses during the epidemic events of human rabies in the State of Para, Brazil in the biennium 2004 and 2005, thus placing the nurse in this space that has a lethal epidemic. The study is a qualitative study which data collection was carried out by individual semi-structured interviews with six nurses who worked during those epidemic events. The linkage and integration of work processes to assist, manage and teach were found in the narratives of the nurses. Key words: Work; Nursing; Rabies.

This was a cross-sectional study that aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics of maternal deaths among women living in Recife, PE, Brazil that occurred between 2000 and 2006. The data source consisted of investigation files on maternal deaths. To analyze the data, the EpiInfo 6.04d software was used. The analysis considered 111 deaths, corresponding to a maternal death ratio of 65.99/ 100,000 live births. The obstetric data showed that these women had had fewer than six prenatal consultations, between one and four previous pregnancies, cesarean deliveries and hospital admission in a severe condition. Hypertensive disorders were the main cause of death. Most of the deaths were considered avoidable. The results indicate the need to improve the healthcare for pregnant women prenatally, at delivery and during the puerperium. The purpose of this research was to construct a nursing care concept, based on the understanding of nurses and students from an undergraduate course. This is a qualitative study. A focus group was used to construct a nursing care concept for use in undergraduate teaching. The research was carried out at Faculdade Católica Rainha do Sertão in Quixadá, CE, Brazil, from August to December 2007. Three categories emerged from the process: the understanding of the care concept, nursing care and the meaning of care. The constructed concept involved attitudes of awareness, ethics, zeal, solidarity and love, which express a “know-how” based on science, art, ethics and esthetics, directed at individual, family and community needs. This is the descriptive explanatory study, with the objective to evaluate the implementation of the philosophical assistance of a maternity teaching hospital, under the optics of the professionals. 113 Professionals that works in the second semester of 2007 participated in the study. Data were collected through means of questionnaire which were analyzed by descriptive statistic, the total response, 51.4% consider that the 12 principles are functional and 46.8% partially for an elevated percent (>=70%), the ones that are related to the rights of the users are more functional (>=50% ). The ones that treat the integral between professionals and the services are found to be least functional in some sectors (<= 50%). It is necessary to know the factors that interfere negatively in the effective of all integrated philosophical principles. This study aimed at understanding the main needs of prostitute’s life activities that work in Fortaleza,CE, Brazil. Study of qualitative approach conducted with six prostitutes who had previously identified changes on gynecological consultation of nursing. The Model of Life Activity was used as the theoretical mark and a semi-structured interview, with a focus in life activities that showed changes. The interviews were conducted on September and October 2007, in the work places of prostitutes. The results showed the main vulnerabilities and events decisive for the maintenance for prostitute’s life quality. The used model facilitated the holistic approach of caring, showing it is capable of being adapted to the various people attended. Key words: Prostitution; Models, Nursing; Women’s Health.

Literature review that aimed at analyzing the pedagogy positions in nursing education of the South Region of Brazil, through the means of production of scientific articles published in the last five years (2004-2008) by the research groups in Education of Nursing. The emerging categories were based on different pedagogical positions of the teaching-learning process. The research groups has designed the teaching-learning process while liberating/creative practice, which thematic side supports the question curriculum/formation and popular education. The intention and the transformation, in which exists interaction between individuals guided in the dialogue, the cooperation and participative form. In concentrating efforts in this perspective, it will be possible to give visibility to the sector in the scope brazilian and latin-american. The Psoriasis, chronic disease with uncertain cause, affects 1 to 3% of world population, produces great psychological impact and changes in quality of life, a challenging reality. The objective is to analyze the scientific production of nursing on Psoriasis in 1997/ 2008, examining the approaches and contributions to care. Bibliographic study based on virtual database Medline using the terms “Psoriasis” and “Nursing”. Of the 21 articles selected, 19% focus on the pathophysiology and differential diagnosis, 48% treatment, 28% psychological aspects and 42% in nursing care. The rescue of the scientific knowledge increases the challenge of maximizing the scientific production about this subject, bringing significant contributions to advances to a more holistic intervention and higher quality with this clientele. The purpose was to identify needs for nursing care of caregiver of the person in the terminal stage and nursing interventions, using a systematic review of the literature. A research in EBSCO and ProQuest and sought Full Text scientific articles, published between 1998 and 2008, using the following keywords: “Palliative care”, “Family”, “Nursing” and “Needs” was made. The method PI[C]OD was used to select 14 items of total 77. The care needs the person in the terminal stage are: communication, relationship of trust and security, recognition and operationalization of desires; preparation for mourning; needs for information, training, involvement in care, emotional needs, spiritual needs and resting needs. It was concluded that the family has different needs that require personal intervention of the nurse, through the establishment of a trust relationship. Key words: Palliative Care; Family; Nursing.

The context of health assistance has been influenced by changes which are produced in the dimension of technology. They have triggered a lot of inquietude and questioning regarding benefits, risks, and relations constructed among workers and sick, and the use of machines as indispensable tools for care. This paper aims at reflecting on the use of technology in nursing care given to the critical sick in the intensive care unit. It is expected that this reflection can minimize doubts which permeate technological environments, such as the intensive care unit, and the conceptions of nursing care since it involves the use of machines and equipment which provide advanced life support in this field of health assistance. There can be serious damage to motor, sensatory, and perceptive capabilities when the brain suffers vascular alterations. With this in mind, the objective of this study is to report and share Nursing care to the individual who has suffered a cerebral vascular accident, emphasizing Orem-based rehabilitation and self-care. This study is a report of a practical care experiment, carried out in May and July of 2006 involving 15 individuals and their families in a rehabilitation center in southern Brazil. Integral Nursing care occurs with stimulation to sensatory, motor, postural control, movement amplitude, and marching practice activities when accompanied by health care education actions. These abilities grant nurses performance capacities, in turn proportioning reductions in damage and incapacities. Key words: Nursing; Stroke; Self Care.
