This research aimed at knowing the history of ex-workers, leprosy patients admitted compulsorily from the early twentieth century in Brazil. Leprosy, fraught with prejudice and stigma in the early 20s was treated for decades with stringent policies of compulsory isolation of patients in hospitals colonies. Because of prejudice, there was difficulty in hiring staff to maintain these establishments. The stories of the individuals came from taped interviews with seven residents of the colony, by the method of oral history. The research results partially presented in this paper reported the life histories of individuals, their struggles, sorrows and dreams. This study aimed to construct an assistive technology about breastfeeding for validation among blind people. This technology is a string that will be sung by street musicians, and then evaluated by blind people. It was performed in May and June 2008 and comprises 32 units of six lines, distributed in categories: 1. Composition of mother’s milk; 2. Myths and taboos; 3. Professional, family and breastfeeding; 4. Advantages of breastfeeding for the child; 5. Advantages of breastfeeding for the mother and family; 6. Communication in health. By elaborating the string the importance of nurses in health promotion and disease prevention and it can use the string as a means for communication and encouragement of breastfeeding is highlighted. The aim of the study was to identify the predictive factors and the signals of transient tachypnea of the newborn valued by the nurses who work at neonatal ward and rooming-in when they assess the newborn respiratory function during the immediate neonatal period in the first six hours after birth. A cross sectional study carried out at two public hospitals of São Paulo city. The sample consisted of 28 nurses who replied a structured questionnaire about the newborn respiratory function assessment practices. Data showed they valuated to know the evaluation of labor, delivery and Apgar score when they evaluate the newborn respiratory function. About the signals of respiratory distress they valued to evaluate the respiratory rate and auscultation, evaluation of the respiratory distress using the Silverman-Andersen Index besides, the neonatal nurses valued to evaluate de oxygen saturation. This is a qualitative study developed with the interdisciplinary health care teams of two public hospitals in Brazil. One team provides palliative care to cancer patients and the other provides care to the elderly. The study contributes to thinking about work relationships in the health care sector upon analyzing the contribution of these experiences for the constitution of new forms of health care work organization. The results reveal that the interdisciplinary perspective of performance in health care makes better work relationships possible among professionals and between professionals and patients/family, as well as approximates the professionals to the needs of the patient, beyond contributing to better quality care. We conclude that interdisciplinary practice approximates new forms of work organization and, upon favoring these links, reception, and access, contributes to the greater efficiency of the Brazilian National Health Care System. The National Conferences of Health approached the question of Human Resources with emphasis, making prescriptions of interests for the Nursing, a huge class among the professionals of health. Aiming to identify, describe and analyze what the final reports of the last five conferences mentioned about this subject, it was done a documental study by means of analyses of the dissertation contained in those texts. The categories found are: job conditions; education; upbringing and qualification; formation of multi-professional teams and humanization. It was concluded that the aspects broached being in a punctual way or being in a more complex definition were driven to the human resources as a whole, with little specification for the nursing in contrast to the significance of this grouping for SUS. Review study that aimed at analyzing the nursing scientific production about varicose ulcer in the period from 2002 to 2007. For the data collection it was used Medline and LILACS databases. Twenty-five materials were found in seven national and international journals. It was demonstrated that scientific production approach several issues and there is a need for studies on the humanistic issues. It was concluded that the care of varocose ulcers is expressed in some aspects in nursing research, but that the matter is still poorly researched and that there is little qualitative research that address this content. The nursing researches have collaborated to build the profession knowledge. The tendency in qualitative methodologies is evident, and among them we highlight the phenomenology approach. This paper will present the possibilities of Martin Buber’s philosophy in research. In the field work, it can help the interview technique because it is related with relationship and dialogue. During the analyses phase it should be applied as a theoretical framework to interpretation. The Martin Buber’s philosophy present elements to understand the encounter of presence among the humans beings, it came from the way of see himself/herself and the world. This consideration emerged from the Research Group Care/Nursing Care from the Anna Nery Nursing School subsidized by Certeau’s concepts of daily care and concepts of care practices, care, and client, for the analysis of the constitutive elements in nursing care. Experience report carried out at a university hospital involving a patient victimized by an accident with a spider of the Loxosceles gaucho genus. This type of accident can be classified as mild, moderate and severe, depending on the period of time elapsed between the occurrence of the accident and the moment of care provision. We aimed at applying nursing care systematization in a comprehensive and humanized manner. The following nursing diagnoses were established: acute pain, damaged skin integrity, risks for infection, constipation and low selfesteem. The therapeutic relationship favored student/patient interactions and enabled the recognition of the needs that deserved nursing interventions. The nursing process was a valuable instrument and provided important elements for the patient’s daily development and planning adjustment by prioritizing care quality. This study with a qualitative approach aims to apprehend the social representation and disciplinary practices in Mental Health subject regarding the therapeutic role of the nursing students in the attention of adult into the Context of Enlarged Clinic held in the Day-Hospital Dr. Elger Nunes, Natal / RN. A total of 42 case studies were analyzed and formatted in corpus and based on the ALCESTE software. It was inferred for this group of students that the social representation is established acquiring knowledge to be therapeutic as student and professional. The transformations of stamp social, political and economical happened in the last decades they rebound significantly in all the sections of the society. And if it cannot leave of considering the influences of those transformations for the mental health of the population. It is a epidemic cohort study that aimed at accomplishing the risk for mental disease in the population assisted by the Unit of Health of the Family of the habitational group, neighborhood of Mangabeira, city of João Pessoa-PB, where Self Report Questionnaire-20 was used (SRQ-20). Association of the Risk was observed for Depression and Anxiety with the feminine sex (59,40%), among the age group from 40 to 65 years (66%), in the occupation of domestic services (65,5%). We are mischievous to recognize that the mental suffering has been growing relatively in the studied sample and starting from that verification it is done necessary an immediate attention to the problems of mental health in the community’s people. The Communitarian Therapy comes appearing as a new technology of care in the programs of insertion and support to the mental health of the population. This exploratory research aims to identify the number of groups of community care with older people in the city of João Pessoa – PB, to know the main themes presented by the elderly and the strategies used to confront the difficulties and disclose evidence related to improving quality of life of older people. The data had been collected in the fiches of register of the therapies, analyzed in a quantitative boarding. The results had demonstrated that the problem most frequent in the aged one is stress it, the used strategy of confrontation more are the spirituality. This study aimed at capturing the psychosocial feelings and perceptions health workers face after accidents with biological material, identifying the difficulties to accomplish the follow-up. This qualitative research with intentional sample of 15 health workers was carried out. The fear was the first expressed feeling. The fear the health worker feels is related to his/her attributions, potentiates the development of stressing situations in work setting and trigger psychic suffering. The feeling of anger and outbreak appear in the discourses face the workers’ indignity. Another feeling is guilty for triggering the accident. This finding allows recommending organizational restructuring proposals as well as in the behavior of workers in the dynamics of work. It is an exploratory-descriptive study that aimed to analyze the disability retirement of employees of the UFRN for mental and behavioral disorders in the period 2000-2005. The sample was obtained from records of the DAS / PRH / UFRN. Of 43 retirees, 58% were men, 41% retire between 41-50 years and 35% between 51-60 years, 44% occupied position / function for the high school level and 28% for the elementary level. The mood disorders lead to 61% of the retirements by mental alienation, followed by thought disorders (19%), organic mental disorders and personality disorder (4%). We found that they lived with intense psychological distress creating an indirect burden on their lives and on their family’s life facing lost opportunities of life and to the adjusted years of disability affecting their work. Qualitative study that aimed at understanding the social representation of a parent with a premature child. The data were collected between May and June 2008, in a semi-structured interview with 17 parents whose premature children were hospitalized in the NICU of two public institutions in Natal, Brazil. The reports were analyzed based on the Social Representations Theory (SRT). The results reveal that the hospitalization of their children causes parents to experience emotions of fear, anguish, anxiety, loneliness interspersed with those of faith, joy and hope. For a parent the NICU is a frightening environment, albeit necessary for the specialized care that the conditions of the premature newborn require. This paper presents a reflection on the ICNP® and CIPESC® construed as a technological innovation capable of sustaining the nursing knowledge. They may be considered as product and process innovations that, inserted on complex realities, must estimate values and local cultures. The CIPESC® strengthens the presence of phenomena from the nursing practice in the SUS and to survive with autonomy and sharing information, it should be combined with institutional information systems and the ICNP®, thus it will establish cultural values strong enough to be available and to interact with systems of language of the profession as well as with systems in use in the SUS context. Our challenge is to overcome the use of a classification system as a mere instrument of work and view it as a technological innovation able to produce changes that will give the opportunity for nursing work. This article is a reflection on the production of knowledge about the work process based on some questions: who talks, and from where, about the work in Nursing?In this context, it is highlighted the role of the post-graduation courses and of the ABEn in the production of knowledge in the work process. Concerning the role of the post-graduation courses, the research areas focused on this theme are identified and an analysis of that production based on studies performed by a research group (Práxis/UFSC) identified its strengths and its fragilities in two studies about the group’s production showed in doctorate thesis and masters dissertations. The categories approached were: the organization of work and the worker’s health and the gaps identified were related to studies on the objects and the products of the work process, the evaluation of the quality of assistance, the needs of the care subjects, the aim of the work and the praxis itself in the social-historical scenario. CIPESC® is a Brazilian system to classify nursing phenomena, It’s used in nursing consultation in primary care. This article approaches nursing as a social practice, grounded in the work category to address the nursing work force in Brazil. It recovers the historical arrangement of its profile associated to the most general organization of the health sector in the country. Workers’ profile is related to the aim of the health work process. Authors understand that the moving forces in the health context are restricted, but its organized actors can give directions determined by the technical, ethical and political ambits. Readers are invited to reflect on which nursing profiles are supported and targeted to the multiple Brazils. The characteristics of generalist nursing workers are highlighted, evidencing that new power and knowledge arrangements will be necessary for this training. This can build other profiles and outlines to health work and nursing, more committed with the principles of the Unified Health System. It is a literature review held by means of abstract consultation in the theses and dissertations data base of the Coordination of Specialization for the Superior Level Staff (CAPES – in Portuguese), from 1997 to 2006, using the words: professional’s health and nursing. 172 abstracts were identified. Most used key words were: nursing job and work (14.3%), occupational hazards (10%) and work accidents (10%). Only 119 out of 172 productions referred to the nature of the study, 52.9% have a quantitative approach in many research studies, ultimately descriptive or exploratory studies or both. Future outlook in this production field may be the issue of changing the study typology, putting aside descriptive and exploratory qualitative or quantitative studies in order to search scientific evidences and modern investigative methodologies besides the implementation of intervention proposals as well as the appreciation of nurses’ educational function. Retrospective study that aimed at describing the clinic and socio- demographical characteristics of 141 individuals which were interned in Teaching Hospital of Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro, Uberaba, MG, Brazil, who were submitted to amputations related to diabetes and compare the number of amputations considering the variables sex, age, co-morbidity, the type of treatment and then associated the number of amputations with the duration of internments and diagnosis. Data were collected from patient health records, totalizing 208 amputations. Major percentage of masculine individuals (58,9%), and a major occurrence of amputation among the elderly (70.2%); the cause: diabetic foot (35.7%); the most of patients (75.0%) went through internment at least twice; most frequent co-morbidity: arterial hypertension (74.0%); median in the number of amputations was two. Cerebral palsy is among the most common motor disabilities in our midst that limits individuals from carrying out their normal daily routines. The adjacent alterations, characterization, and participation of the child in these activities is not appropriated explored in the literature. The objective of this survey was to describe the capacity and performance of the children with cerebral palsy treated at an institution in the city of Fortaleza as to their capacity to carry out tasks and participate in daily life activities as stated in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health. Thirty-two children were evalueted. The data collected was grouped by the software Statistical Package of Social of Science (SPSS). The ICF had proportioned an objective description from cerebral palsy disabilities. It was clear that the impact that the disease has on the life of the children. Study’s Object: Conceptions of nursing students on the approach to the drugs user. Objectives: To describe the conceptions of nursing students about the user of drugs. Method: Descriptive-exploratory study carried out with 321 students from 15 private nursing schools in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The scale of attitudes and beliefs NEADA was used to obtain the data between June 2006 and August 2007. The results demonstrate that the difficulties in dealing with the client who is a drug user are real, but the personal limitations of professionals in work with this kind of client still permeate the assistance, influencing care. This qualitative study has as objective to present the experience to assessment of the families of dependent aged under the systemic approach. The Calgary Model was used as theoretical framework and as methodological strategy the case study. The data had been collected with five families of dependent older person, from September of December of 2005, by means of the instrument elaborated previously. The application of this model allowed doing the familiar analysis raising the main aspects of its structure, development and functioning. We believe that the nurse must search endorsement in the scientific literature and adopts pertinent instruments to contribute for the development of its abilities to do the familiar approach. The objective was to analyze results of the incidence of accidental extubation associated with nursing care. Method: Retrospective observational study, the intervention ahead, measured before and after the deployment of a guide extubations accidental The population of 142 patients, 72 patients in the retrospective phase and 70 in phase ahead, totaling 3771 days of ventilation. Data collected from prontuários.Results: 52.78% used tracheal tube and 62% were between 71 and 90 years with an average of days of ventilation of 26.5 days,. There were six (3.27) extubations before and two (1.03) after the deployment of guia. Conclusion, there was a decrease in the incidence of accidental extubation in the period studied, but one can not attribute this difference to the guide because other studies are needed. The objective was to identify the different meanings that surround the breastfeeding and the use of pacifiers of a group of mothers of children under six months old. Adopted to the precepts of qualitative research methodology. Interviews were conducted semi-structured individual, transcribed in full and analyzed using the technique to analyse the content of Bardin. The comprehensive analysis of speeches revealed the presence of representations which can carry interference in the decision to breastfeed - both positive, as negatively. In that sense, it is important that health professionals, know the context in which these women are found, especially their doubts, fears, myths and beliefs in relation to breastfeeding, thus acting in favour of lactation. The study aims to focus about the nurses’ moral distress and their relationship with moral problems and moral dilemmas presenting concepts, moral distress experiences and possible strategies to be adopted to face it. In this work we rebuilt the first attempts on the creation of the Program of Formation on a Large Scale of Elementary and High School people for basic health services. In the investigations, we went trough the purpose and the procedures of the proposal on a national scale. Aiming to offer patients a positive experience that differs from the routine of the hospital environment, some units of the Hospiral São Paulo received the visit of an animal for sessions of Animal-Assiste Therapy. The results achieved among patients and its companions and health professionals were positive, in addition to arouse the attention and the interest of other health institutions and the media. This study aimed at identifying the most frequent Nursing Diagnoses and propose interventions for women under critical care into a maternal intensive care unit in a public hospital in Fortaleza, CE, Brazil. Ten Nursing Diagnoses were elaborated, being four risk: risk of infection, risk of unbalance of liquids volume, risk of aspiration, risk of damaged skin integrity and six real: altered maternity, impaired physical mobility, anxiety and impaired verbal communication. This study aims at understanding the experience of adolescent mothers in taking care of her child in the first week after birth by domiciliary accompaniment. Six adolescents participated, accompanied between February and October 2007. Data collection was accomplished through semi structured interviews and participant observation. Culture Care Diversity in Nursing Practice was adopted as theoretical reference. The results had disclosed that the experience of caretaking is lived deeply of diverse ways. For some of the adolescents care was developed with assurance; others were frightened and insecure and did not immediately take on. The objective was to check music and voice message influence on the Vital Signals and Facial Expressions of patients in physiological or induced comas. A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial was done. The sample was consisted of 30 patients from Intensive Care Unit, being divided in 2 groups: Group Control (without auditory stimuli) and Experimental Group (with auditory stimuli). The patients were submitted to 3 sessions for consecutive days. Significant statistical alterations of the vital signs were noted (oxygen saturation - session 1; oxygen saturation - session 3; respiratory frequency - session 3) during the message playback and with facial expression, session 1, during both music and message. Apparently, the voice message is a stronger stimulus than the music in relation to the capacity of producing suggestive physiological auditory responses. This is en experience report lived in the Health and Nursing Assistance Projects of the Post-Graduate Nursing Master Degree of the Federal University of Santa Catarina as an interdisciplinary subject, and it was done with Down’s Syndrome people, concentrating in their rationality and imaginary. We tried to build with these people and their families an individualized nutritional systematization that contributes to their personal independence in the daily practice of the act of eating. The postulates of symbolic interactionism guided this practice and established a connection with the methodological instruments of sensible listening and observation, besides playful activities. The objective of this research was to recognize the strengthening and weakening potentials of young workers who study in a public school. It is a qualitative study that interviewed 19 students 16 to 20 years old of the nocturnal period. The main weakening potentials were: long hours of working, excess of responsibility, lack of stability and essentially manual, broken up and repetitive work. The few strengthening potentials were: socialization and satisfaction of social reproduction needs. The phenomenon of intergenerational regression was verified. The study of the binomial strengthening-weakening of the young denounces more negative than positive meaning of the concurrence work-study, that is closely related to the survival needs of the families. The objective of this qualitative study is to assess the meaning of alcoholism to alcoholic’s patient’s caregivers. Fieldwork involved comprehensive ethnographic observation and in depth interviews with ten female caregivers of alcoholic patients undergoing treatment in health mental care in Santos. The study showed that family relationships were unstable and conflicting. It was difficult to recognize addiction. Women accepted addiction as illness when the patient was hospitalized. Addiction to alcohol had been hidden by social value of intake and by unequal gender relationships. There has been a social restraint of the caregivers. This qualitative research aimed at understanding the experience of familiar caregivers in the process of caring for persons disabled by stroke, in their home. Cohort study to investigate mortality and immunization coverage of children under one year of age, identify resources, actions and difficulties to achieve goal vaccine. 2,206 children and 62 nurses from Family Health Basic Unities participated in the study. A questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used. Children’s health targed acctions, the dispersion of the registered children in this unities and the number of live births; the oscillations of the percentage of vaccination, now closer or distant of the goal. The resistance of parent’s vaccination, lack of inputs and ACS in some UBSF were the main barrier faced to achieve the goal. The study aimed at investigating the perception of the familiar/care worker about his contribution in the rehabilitation of the patient with stroke. Qualitative study, carried through in the medical clinic of a hospital located in the city of Crato, CE, Brazil, between March and May, 2006. Results: between the home care workers predominated the feminine gender, in the age range between 27 and 66 years, with blood relation with the patient and presenting educational level between the half-illiteracy and university level. The information is deficient in all the aspects. Among the delivered care, the physical ones are highlighted. Conclusion: this work demonstrates that the familiar care worker is not prepared to receive and to rehabilitate people who have special necessities as it is the case of victims of stroke. The educational model adopted in Brazil, from nithingaleana school didn’t contemplate the reality of Brazilian health in 30’s, period of the nurse’s School from São Paulo Hospital fundation (EEHSP). The article is about a research that had the objective to describe and to analyze the creation process and elaboration of the first curriculum of EEHSP, made from a historical approach, having the qualitative research as a methodological resource. Documental analyses of primary and secondary sources were accomplished, besides interviews with characters relationed with that institution. The important paper of the School From São Paulo of Medicine (EPM) was verified in the EEHSP creation, particularly in the teachers’ illustration and directors involved with their courses, as the decisive participation of Catholic nuns. We verified that the drawing of this first curriculum was ruled from the educational model of Anna Nery school, it had been seen as the model school according to the era.
