À luz de desafios atuais presentes no espaço público brasileiro, a discussão sobre a presença de crucifixos em tribunais gaúchos e a atuação de políticos evangélicos no Congresso, o artigo propõe-se fazer um primeiro balanço da reflexão sobre uma teologia pública no Brasil. Assim, procura responder à pergunta “o que é teologia pública?” não de forma definitória, inequívoca, uniformizante. Antes, mostra uma variedade de origens do termo e de oportunidades, bem como de perigos contidos neste conceito. Num primeiro passo, o artigo apresenta quatro linhas de abordagem presentes na emergente discussão brasileira. Em seguida, recorrendo ao sul-africano Dirk Smit, mostra a diversidade de origens e usos do conceito em várias partes do mundo. Por fim, procura evidenciar a pertinência e o potencial de uma teologia pública no Brasil – com ousadia e humildade. ABSTRACT: In view of actual challenges present in the Brazilian public space, the discussion on the presence of crosses in courthouses in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as on the activities of evangelical Congressmen, this article ventures into a first balance of reflection on a public theology in Brazil. It seeks to respond to the question “what is public theology?” not with a clear and uniform definition. Rather, it shows a variety of origins and opportunities, as well as dangers contained in the concept. In a first step, the article presents four lines of thought present in the emerging Brazilian discussion. Then, with reference to the South African theologian Dirk Smit, it shows the diversity of origins and uses of the concept in different parts of the world. Finally, it seeks to show the pertinence and the potential of a public theology in Brazil – both with boldness and humility.

O artigo busca refletir as chances do cristianismo no contexto pós-moderno, cuja característica principal se define como niilismo, traço fundamental das filosofias de Nietzsche e Heidegger. A hipótese apresentada parte do pressuposto de que o abandono da metafísica clássica não representa somente uma ameaça à fé cristã, mas lhe desafia a uma nova configuração. O filósofo Gianni Vattimo aproxima cristianismo e niilismo, apontando para os cristãos um caminho possível, mesmo se os cristãos não acolhem todos os pressupostos de sua filosofia. A fé cristã encontra na sua vertente mística os elementos de que necessita para enfrentar os desafios do niilismo, pois sua dimensão prático-existencial tem mais chances de falar ao homem de hoje do que seu discurso metafísico. Por outro lado, muitos místicos enfrentaram o nada na sua busca de Deus, mostrando que o niilismo não é estranho à experiência de fé. Abstract: The article seeks to reflect on the possibilities of Christianity in the postmodern context, the principal characteristic of which is defined as nihilism, a fundamental trait of the philosophies of Nietzsche and Heidegger. The hypothesis presented starts from the presupposition that the abandonment of classical metaphysics not only presents a threat to Christian faith but also challenges it to form a new configuration. The philosopher Gianni Vattimo compares Christianity to Nihilism, showing to Christians a possible path, even when Christians do not accept all the presuppositions of his philosophy. Christian faith finds in its mystical dimension the elements which it needs to face the challenges of nihilism, because its practical and existential aspect has more possibilities of speaking to the contemporary person than its metaphysical discourse. Many mystics face the “nothing” in their search for God, showing that nihilism is not foreign to the experience of God.

Na epistemologia escolástica havia não somente a preocupação de aplicar a doutrina aristotélica da abstração, considerando o funcionamento dos sentidos externos e internos, mas também de garantir a possibilidade do conhecimento direto ou intuitivo, que se daria sem a mediação de representações mentais. Tal possibilidade baseava-se no fato de haver um conhecimento que aconteceria pela força própria do objeto de dar-se a conhecer, que permitiria conhecer algo excedente à experiência sensorial humana, visto que os sentidos somente podem perceber o que é comensurável a eles. O componente interno que permite tal conhecimento intuitivo na tradição agostiniana era o verbum intus prolatum, que seria palavra anterior a toda fala humana e diferente do discurso da racionalidade humana. Na refinada teologia de Vieira no sermão da Madrugada da Ressurreição pregado na Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Graça, em Belém do Pará, aparecem claros elementos da Teologia Negativa, de Mariologia e da doutrina do conhecimento intuitivo. ABSTRACT: In the scholastic epistemology there was not only the attempt to apply the Aristotelian doctrine of abstraction, taking into account the external and internal senses, but also the attempt to preserve the possibility of knowing something directly or intuitively, i.e., without any mediation of a mental representation. This was the guarantee that there could be a kind of knowledge derived from the object’s own force of revealing itself, which makes possible the knowledge of something that exceeds the human sensorial capacities, since the senses can only perceive something commensurate to them. The internal component responsible for this intuitive knowledge for Augustine was the verbum intus prolatum, which is the word before any human speech and distinct from the discursive human rationality. In Vieira’s sophisticated theology of the sermon of Madrugada da Ressurreição, preached in the church of Nossa Senhora da Graça, in Belém do Pará, there are clear elements of Negative Theology, of Mariology and of the doctrine of intuitive knowledge.
