This study evaluated the impact of fermentation with Chrysonilia crassa on nutritional composition and antioxidative activity of the mixture of cassava pulp and selected leaves meal. Cassava pulp (60 g) was mixed thoroughly with 35 g leaves meal of either cassava, M. Oleifera, or L. leucocephala, and inoculated with Chrysonilia crassa starter (5 g). The mixture was aerobically incubated for 3 days at room temperature and analyzed for the proximate composition, gross energy, true protein, antioxidant activity, and amino acid content. The fermented products showed higher crude protein, ether extract, ash, and gross energy but lower fibre content than unfermented cassava pulp. Both leaves meal supplementation and fermentation increased the true protein content of cassava pulp. Superior antioxidant activities and higher amino acids were observed in the fermented products than raw cassava pulp. In conclusion, supplementation of leaves meal in conjunction with Chrysonilia crassa-fermentation improved the nutritional values and antioxidant potential of cassava pulp.

The Boercang goat is a crossbred between male Boer goat and local female goat. This study was aimed to analyze the production and physical performances of Boercang goats during the weaning up to the age of one year. Thirty nine males and 37 females goats aged 3 - 12 months were used in the study. Body weight, daily weight gain, coat colour pattern, horn, ears, nose shape and birth type were recorded during study. The data obtained were calculated for the means, standard deviation (SD), and coefficient of variation (CV) and the analysis was descriptive. Student t test was performed to compare differences between groups of age and between group of sex. Field observations showed that the qualitative characteristics of Boercang such as body colour, horns, ears, and nose shape were 50 % identical with the characteristics of male Boer. The average body weight of the male Boercang goats was 23.02±1.56 kg whereas the female Boercang goats was 21.86±1.63 kg. Body weight gain was affected by age and birth type. The conclusion is that the genetic superiority of the qualitative characteristics of the Boer goats is still expressed in the offspring although it varies; for the characteristics of horns, colour patterns and ears still contribute more than 50%. The appearance of superior quantitative traits from the male Boer goat during the period of weaning up to one year of age both based on the birth type and offspring sex tends to be higher than the appearance of local goat.

This study was aimed to evaluate the use of safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorius L) and inositol on the digestive profile of male Sentul chickens. A total of 182 Sentul chickens aged 17 weeks were reared up to 23 weeks in 91 units of battery cage (6 chickens/unit). The research was conducted in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with nine treatments and three replicates (6 chickens/replicate). The research treatments were R0 = control/ basal feed + 0% Safflower and 0% Inositol; R1 = Basal feed + 0.5% Safflower oil; R2 = Basal feed + 1.0% Safflower oil; R3 = Basal feed + 0.5% Inositol; R4 = Basal feed + 1.0% Inositol; R5 = Basal feed + 0.5% Safflower oil and 0.5% Inositol; R6 = Basal feed + 0.5% Safflower oil and 1.0% Inositol; R7 = Basal feed + 1.0% Safflower oil and 0.5% Inositol; R8 = Basal feed + 1.0% Safflower oil and 1.0% Inositol. Basal feed was composed of corn, rice bran, soybean kernel, fishmeal, palm oil, calcium carbonate (CaCO3), topmix, lysine, and methionine, as well as safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorius L) and inositol. The measured variable consists of digestive profile (the percentage of intestine weight, digesta, proventriculus, gizzard) and intestine length, crypt depth, the width and length of intestinal villi, Intestinal histology profile. The data were subjected to a statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) continued with an Honestly Significant Difference test (HSD). The result showed that incorporating safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorius L) and inositol into feed did not significantly affect (P>0.05) the digestive profile of Male Sentul chickens. Conclusively, safflower oil and inositol up to 1% in the feed are safe for male Sentul chickens without interfering with the performance of digestive organs because it produces relatively similar intestinal weight and length, crypt depth, as well as the length and width of intestinal villi.

The development of Jawa Brebes (Jabres) cattle as indigenous cattle in Brebes Regency, Indonesia, is carried out using a farmer group approach. Cattle farmers join farmer groups with various motives and purposes. Understanding the motives of indigenous cat tle farmers joining farmers group in Brebes Regency, Indonesia, this study aimed to identify the motives of Jabres cattle farmers to join the group and analyze the influencing factors of different motives to join farmers group. The study used a survey meth od to 119 Jabres cattle farmers in Brebes Regency. Respondents were selected using multistage sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to depict the cattle farmers' characteristics and identify their motives to join the farmers' group. Dis criminant analysis identified the influencing factors of Jabres cattle farmers' different reasons for joining the Jabres cattle farmers group. The majority of the Jabres cattle farmers in Brebes Regency (75.6 percent) entered the farmers' group due to soci al motive and expectancy to feel secure in social interactions with other farmers. Farmer's education is an essential factor that causes differences in cattle farmers' motives in joining farmer groups (P <0.05). Cattle farmers with higher education join th e farmers’ group to gain additional knowledge and realize beef cattle business goals (profitability and marketing).
