this enssay analyzes the ambigutity in which the african-brazilian representations are retaken in the poetry of Jorge de Lima. In his constructions, it can be identified a celebration of racial democracy, and a reflection on the conequences of the northeastern patriarchal system oppression as well. This ambiguity is hihhlighted when he represents the image of the black woman as a submissive body in opposition to the pessimistic view of the black worker. These identity constructions reflect a catastrophic historical view of Brazilian Colonization and modernization. Along this paper, it is proposed a revisionist reading of these representations, taking as a starting point the posicolonial theories of Homi Bhaba, Stuart Hal and Edward Said.

In this text, we intend to deal with the substitution of landscapes’ harmony for cacophony, in Mario Quintana’s piece Caderno H, aiming at to explain the presence of technique, by means of the criticism the author directs to “progress” in his poems. In this sense, we hope to lead the reader to reflect about the technological future, which is embeded in the poet’s notion of “progress”. For that, we will employ Zygmunt Bauman’s concept of liquid modernity and Umberto Galimbert’s studies about technique.

This paper presents an analysis of João do Rio's book A Alma Encantadora das Ruas, published in 1908, bringing together texts published in the newspaper Gazeta de Noticias and in the magazine Kosmos. This analysis highlights another Rio, one which did not take oart in the progress of the city that would become known as "the Wonderful City".
