pointed out passages in which it is possible to identify this other kind of writing that ushers. The
dash is also touted as something that is present in the work of Lúcio Cardoso in a broader
sense, which can be identified in his drawings, in his handwriting or as part of the narrative.

This article focuses excerpts from the diary of Lúcio Cardoso, to discuss the invisibility
of his sexuality for the Brazilian critics. Seen for a long time as a Catholic and intimate writer, it's
time to discuss something that the most of critics do not want discussed, that wants muted: the
writer’s sexuality in his writing.
The article analyzes Lúcio Cardoso’s first novel, Mãos vazias (1938). The focus is
in main character, Ida, and her attempt to become the subject of her own desire. Moved by her
yearning to escape, she uses her mean resources to express her story of dissatisfaction and
transgressions: her name and the spatial route consisting of only a few blocks.
Before Lucio Cardoso’s novels this thesis pursues to engender the
unravelling of the artifices that reveal provocation. Through some of his works, it
is possible to go over the ontological literary texture explored by Lucio in order
to know how it answers his own provocative ideal. We aim to emphasise how
the Brazilian author used a range of literary stratagem to gather a piece of
writing that causes discomfort and perturbation. Thus provocation becomes the
primordial subject of his literary virtuosity that is also transgressing.

Comparative analysis of Lucio Cardoso’s Maleita and the story "Sarapalha" of
Guimarães Rosa, taking as its starting point the expression of other as disease. Therefore I
intend to discuss how strangers are taken as something negative in these texts for whom
enunciate speech.
