A comparative study between two different stationary mosquito attractants, particularly between a homemade mixture and an ultraviolet (UV) light, was conducted. Other existing attractants and subjects were not considered in this study. The purpose of this study is to prove the cost-effectiveness of the homemade mixture as compared to the UV light, where results may be used in depressed areas in order to help reduce the population of mosquitoes, thus, reducing as well the probability of people, particularly children, being infected with mosquito-borne diseases. The effectiveness of both products along with other factors such as cost, environmental impact and life span were evaluated in this study through cost-benefit analysis and experimentation, where both attractants were exposed to a population of Aedesaegypti mosquitoes which resulted to statistical data analyzed through the use of t-test analysis. The researchers obtained a p-value of 0.0005 which is less than the value of the significance level (α) at 0.05, indicating that the homemade mixture is more effective. In terms of cost-efficiency, the total benefitcost difference of the homemade mixture and UV light computed were ₱ 1388.29 and ₱ 920.24, respectively. This proved that the homemade mixture is more effective, thus, better than the UV light.

This study endeavored to investigate the performance of the developed sugarcane bagasse grinding and pelletizing machine for livestock feed production. Bagasse is the residual fiber resulting from the extraction of sugarcane juice. In this study, sun dried bagasse collected from sugar industries were used as raw material in the testing of the fabricated prototype. Preliminary testing results revealed that grinder and pelletizer feed rates were 20 grams per 19 seconds feeding interval, 500 grams mixture per 125 seconds feeding interval, respectively. The grinding time was 76 seconds for every 100 grams of bagasse while pelletizing time was 500 seconds for every 1990 grams mixture containing 100 grams bagasse. The acceptable grinding discs clearance was obtained by making one-half turn in the knob or 180 degrees turn clockwise. Final performance evaluation results showed that the average grinding rate for 500-g raw bagasse was 1.12 g/s with a grinding efficiency of 85%, while the average pelletizing rate using the same amount of input was 4.99 g/s with a pelletizing efficiency of 97.52%. The pellet produced had an average length and diameter of 20 mm and 5 mm, respectively. Whereas, the average percentage mass yield of each pellet after undergoing tests to determine the resistance against friability was 99%.

Students’ choice to take higher education is defined by the interaction among behavior and cognition, personal factors, and environmental factors. Using data mining technique and binary regression analysis, this study aims to uncover factors that significantly predict the likelihood for a student to take higher education. Analysis revealed that (i) students whose parents are educated with high income are 1.77 times more likely to pursue higher education than not; and (ii) Older Female Students are less likely to pursue higher education. The model explains that parents should encouraged their young children to embrace education to its highest level by capacitating themselves economically to provide their basic educational and financial needs. Lastly, the study concludes that the pursuit for higher education among young students can be defined primarily by their parents’ educational and financial capability.

The study was conducted to understand the role of Antidesma ghaesembilla Gaertn in enhancing the avifaunal diversity in Imperata cylindrica (L.) Raeuschel dominated grassland patches and to realize the influence of adjacent vegetations on the assemblage of birds that feed on the fruit of this tree. An avifaunal survey was conducted on “Cogon” dominated grassland patches adjacent to selected vegetations such as primary forest, secondary forest and upland agricultural area. A total of 250 birds belonging to 19 species representing ten families were found feeding on the fruits of Antidesma ghaesembilla. The site adjacent to secondary forest has the highest species richness, abundance and diversity index values. This accentuates the combined influence of the open and forest dwelling bird species thriving in the secondary forest. The sites adjacent to the primary forest and to the agricultural area have the same species richness but differ in species composition as reflected by the low similarity index. More forest dwelling bird species were recorded near the forest while more open dwelling bird species were recorded near the agricultural area. This highlights the spillover effect of the adjacent vegetations on the feeding bird assemblage. The presence of several endemic and conservation priority bird species that feed on the fruits of Antidesma ghaesembilla unfolds its important role in avifaunal conservation. Finally, the wide collection of fruit eating bird species attracted to it emphasized its importance in improving the overall avifaunal diversity in Imperata cylindrica dominated grassland patches within the swidden vegetation matrix.

The paper offers discussions of the result of adoption of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE)by the Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU), Zambales most especially on the aspect ascertaining the extent of understanding of the essence of OBE and the knowledge of OBE implementation. The study was conducted during the first semester of 2015 among the 272 faculty members. The research is descriptive and quantitative. Using the weighted mean, it was found out that the faculty members manifest a great extent of understanding of outcomes-based education primarily the active participation of students in the learning activities, however, faculty members’ perception indicated a moderate extent of understanding on the minor role played by the educators in the teaching-learning situation and planning activities that focus around the learners. The faculty members reported a great extent of knowledge of the outcomes-based education mainly the use of different techniques to assess student learning, though there is a moderate extent of knowledge on curriculum alignment and mapping and construction of Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the different Colleges. The areas of the outcomes-based instruction which were proposed to be offered for faculty development were seminars and trainings in the syllabus preparation-OBE format, on the utilization of student-centered strategies and on curriculum mapping.

The subject of the study, Company X, has been experiencing variations in the quantity report from the cutting department and the transmittal reports. The management found that these processes are hugely affected by manual labor. To reduce the system's proneness to human error, the management decided to explore the possibility of adapting a semi-automated spreading and cutting process in the system. This research aims to evaluate the pre-sewing processes of Company X and whether introducing automation can be beneficial to the company and the garments industry. The researchers used process mapping tools, descriptive research, and process flowchart to assess the current and proposed systems, and engineering economics to evaluate the cost and benefits of implementing the semi-automated system. The results showed that with the implementation of the semi- automated system; the company will incur 66.61% more savings per year than the current system. In terms of cycle time, the semi-automated system eliminated the relaxation of fabric before the cutting process, thereby greatly reducing cycle time. In addition, the researchers found that as long as the company produce more than 4,140 pieces per day for the system will be economically feasible. Unquantifiable benefits are also identified on introducing the semi- automated system to the company. The company can have a cleaner work environment that will lead to more productivity and greater quality of goods. This will lead to a better company image that will encourage more customers to place job orders.

–This study is anchored on Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory which suggests that satisfaction of employees is related to motivation (e.g. achievement, recognition, advancement, growth, and responsibility) and dissatisfaction is related to hygiene factors (e.g. company policy and administration, supervision, interpersonal relationships, working conditions, pay, status, and job security). This study aimed to determine the level and predictors of employment security of nurses in both private and government hospitals in Negros Occidental, Philippines. The level of employment security was categorized into economic security, professional security, personal security, and workplace security. Specifically, this study examined the nurserespondents’ profile in terms of types of hospital employed to, sex, civil status, number of dependents, educational attainment, rank, employment status, salary grade, net income, and length of service. This study also determined the significant differences on the level of employment security of nurses when assessed at different categories and when the respondents are grouped according to their profile. This is a descriptive study which surveyed and interviewed nurses (n=318) from 18 government hospitals, 3 infirmaries and 4 private hospitals which signified intention to participate in the study. The study used the stratified random sampling to insure representativeness of the nurse-respondents.Results revealed that the nurse-respondents expressed moderate security in economic aspect, low security in professional aspect, high security in personal aspect and moderate security in workplace aspect. Highly significant differences were noted between professional security and workplace security. Results also revealed that types of hospital, civil status, rank, employment status are predictors of employment security of the nurse-respondents. Hence, the results implied that fast turnover and migration of Philippine nurses are not mainly about economic issue but also about other confronting reasons related to other aspects especially professional security.

This study sought to determine the quality management system of the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) as basis for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Certification. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. It utilized the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Requirements Checklist and the Questionnaires on the Attitudes towards ISO 9001. The study utilized a descriptive research design.. Findings revealed that the attitude of administrators, teaching personnel and administrative staff’ towards ISO 9001 in terms of benefits, challenges, recommendations and standards did not differ significantly. Findings further revealed that the employees have mostly positive perceptions of ISO 9001, resulting in positive attitudes in the workplace. Findings also revealed that the extent of conformance to the ISO 9001:2008 (QMS) Requirements in the areas of Quality Management System, Management Responsibility, Resource Management, Product Realization and Measurement, Analysis and Improvement was perceived by the respondents to be minor non-conformance. It implies that fulfillment to the ISO 9001:2008 Requirements was only satisfactory.

Development and effective utilization of learning materials to address the needs of individual learners necessitates 21st century educators to become effective teacher to support multisensory learning. Objectively, this study evaluated the acceptability, usefulness and appropriateness of multisensory instructional material package for elementary learners. The study employed design and development research method. In evaluating the learning materials, descriptive-comparative method was employed. A total of fifty seven (57) respondents broken down into forty seven (47) student teachers and twenty (20) public elementary school teachers were the evaluators of the study. There were sixteen (16) multisensory instructional materials constructed which can be used in all the subject areas of elementary curriculum. Results of the study exposed that the multisensory instructional materials were acceptable, useful and appropriate to be used in the elementary classroom. Test of difference showed that teacherevaluators perceived higher evaluation on the usefulness of the materials than the student teacherrespondents. Comments and suggestions were offered by the teacher-evaluators to improve the different instructional materials for enhancement and improvement. It is recommended that different instructional materials may serve as guide for other teachers to develop their own teaching materials and testing the effectiveness of each learning material should be conducted.

This study described the performance of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) as to their enrolment, faculty qualification and passing rate in licensure examination. Accreditation status as to level of accredited programs, grand and area means of accredited areas are also considered. Likewise, it also determined the problems encountered in accreditation with respect to administrative support, logistical support and human resources. The descriptive research design was used in the study with the questionnaire as data gathering instrument complemented by documentary analysis and interview. Fifty-eight local accreditation chiefs, deans, department chairs, and Area Coordinators from Southern Luzon State University, University of Rizal System and Batangas State University were the respondents. The findings revealed that from School Year (SY) 2009-2013, there was an increasing enrolment trend, above average passing rate in Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and highly qualified faculty among the SUCs offering Teacher Education programs. SUC A had the most number of undergraduate and graduate programs accredited followed by SUC C and SUC B. Among the ten areas of accreditation, Administration got the highest area mean and Research got the lowest. In Level II and III- Phase I, highest grand mean was garnered by SUC C and SUC A got the lowest. In Level III-Phase II, SUC A obtained the highest grand mean while SUC B and C got the same. As to problems encountered, lack of incentives given to the faculty/personnel involved in accreditation was encountered to a great extent. Management strategies for institutional transformation were proposed.
