The enactment of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act prompted higher education institutions including state universities and colleges (SUCs) to incorporate ecological waste management in the school system. Thus, this paper aimed to assess the extent of implementation of solid waste management practices in select SUCs in CALABARZON in terms of waste reuse, waste reduction, waste collection, waste recycling, waste treatment, and final waste disposal. Respondents of the study included university administrators, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and concessionaries for a total of 341. A survey questionnaire was used to gather data from Batangas State University (BatState-U), Cavite State University (CavSU), Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) and Southern Luzon State University (SLSU). Result revealed that solid waste management practices are implemented to a great extent. Among the practices, waste collection got the highest composite mean particularly on the promotion of 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) in the collection of waste. On the other hand, waste recycling and waste treatment obtained the lowest composite mean. In terms of waste recycling, establishing partnership with local or private business for recyclable recovery program was to moderate extent. Teaching effectiveness of the faculty is one of the most critical areas that need to be considered. The success of the students will depend to a great extent, upon how well the teachers have trained them. This paper evaluated the faculty members’ level of teaching effectiveness in the teacher education program in Pangasinan State University Asingan Campus, Philippines. Their professional background was assessed. Their level of teaching effectiveness along commitment, knowledge of the subject matter, teaching for independent learning and management of learning were considered. The study used the descriptive and evaluative methods of research. Questionnaire Checklist was used to gather data. The Faculty Evaluation Instrument (QCE of the NBC No.461) was adopted to evaluate the faculty members’ level of teaching effectiveness. It further tested significant relationship between the faculty members’ level of teaching effectiveness and their professional background. Salient findings are as follows: the teacher education faculty members in Pangasinan State University Asingan Campus are qualified professionals who possessed the maximum educational qualifications and eligibility to work in a state-run university. Pre-service teachers are guided by their personal beliefs on how knowledge is acquired which affect their teaching style preferences. To understand more closely how future teachers can be developed and better prepared, it is important to understand their knowledge belief structures and teaching style orientations. This study explored the relationship between the personal epistemologies and teaching styles of pre-service elementary teachers of Cagayan State University-Lasam. It employed descriptive correlational method of research. Data were gathered from the 78 fourth year BEED-Generalist students. The findings of the study revealed that the pre-service elementary teachers exhibit positive high personal epistemologies on the five dimensions while they perceived themselves high in all the five teaching styles. Significantly, mothers’ education and family income define differences in the personal epistemologies of the respondents on the sources of knowledge. With respect to teaching style, sex and family income explain differences in personal model, facilitator and delegator teaching styles of the preservice elementary teachers. Female preservice teachers show more flexibility and dynamism in their teaching styles. Significantly, the personal epistemologies along stability of knowledge is an important factor that influence the preservice elementary teachers to have better display of formal authority teaching style. Finally, the preservice elementary teachers established themselves as constructivists they hold high belief on the pedagogical and methodical approach which is learner-centered

The migrant settlers of Casigayan, Tabuk, Kalinga have upheld the healing ritual for barkes(a skin disease). It is a simple ritual performed by the mangngagas (folk healer) who uses only pan-aw (cogon) leaf and dalikan (clay stove) as instruments of healing. The procedure basically starts from the diagnosis of the affected body area followed by the preparation of the materials, measuringthe barkes, prayer and sharing of post-ritual advice. This phenomenological study reveals that barkes underpins a collective experience among those who consider it as existent phenomenon. The healing ritual is viewed not only as an alternative remedy but also as a show window of intergroup interaction and solidarity. It brings about from the ritual actors a state of mutual focus of attention and shared reality, which creates frontiers of interaction as the participants of the ritual construct meaning to what they are doing. The study also presents that even in this age of modernity and scientific hegemony, folk rituals persist primarily to address the need for healing of those who believe in them and to generate vibrant channels of cultural confluences and intergroup camaraderie.

Culture and media as one is a reflection of society. As culture being the characteristics of a group’s identity, media on the other hand either reflects ideas in the society. It is the main goal of media to get the attention of the audience. Advertisements, as one of the platforms of media intend to fit into what the consumers’ wants and desires because most of the consumers’ attitudes, awareness and behaviors are according on the framework of their culture. The idea of culture reflecting on the magazine advertisements emerged since there are different types of how products and services were advertised. To find out the relevance of the claim, the researchers aimed to explore the Cultural Dimensions reflected in the magazine advertisements of FHM, YES! and Cosmopolitan Magazine using the Hofstede's Five Dimensions of Culture. This includes Femininity, Masculinity, Power Distance, Individualism, Collectivism and Power Distance. General results show majority of the magazine advertisements reflects Uncertainty Avoidance. This implies that advertisers tend to provide advertisements that appeal to the reader’s prevention on taking risk on uncertain circumstances. Overall, advertisers of the three magazines focused more on the person’s avoidance on taking the risks that he/she might have foreseen and what he/she might experience in the future. Since the result of the study shows Uncertainty Avoidance as the dominant Dimension of Culture reflected, the researchers suggests to conduct a study on how social processes, interpersonal and mass communication relates to the Uncertainty Avoidance Dimension of Culture reflected in advertisements.

Emotional intelligence is the basic construct out of which all motivation arises. People with high emotional intelligence have the characteristic of motivating themselves. Students differ in cognitive abilities, with some students being better prepared for the university environment than others. As such, scholars have attempted to find out if emotional intelligence determines students’ attitude toward their studies. The present study therefore, investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination of undergraduates’ at the University of Ilorin. Correlational survey method was employed for the study. The study showed that there is low level of emotional intelligence among University of Ilorin undergraduates. Majority of the respondents have negative attitude towards examination. The result revealed that there was a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and attitude towards examination. Also, it revealed that emotional intelligence has significant correlation with gender (r = 0.203, p<0.05), which implies that gender plays a significant role in the emotional intelligence of undergraduates. Emotional intelligence also has a correlation with age (r = 0.073, p<0.05). This implies that age of undergraduates also plays a significant role in their emotional intelligence. Attitude towards examination had a correlation with age (r = 0.086, p<0.05). This implies that age of the undergraduates plays a significant role in influencing an individual’s attitude toward examinations. Based on these findings, it was recommended; among others, that counsellors and lecturers assist students in determining the appropriate emotional intelligence as this would help them to develop positive attitude towards examination.

Safety, reliability, efficiency and performance of rotating machinery in all industrial applications are the main concerns. Rotating machines are widely used in various industrial applications. Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rotating machinery faults are very important and often complex and labor-intensive. Feature extraction techniques play a vital role for a reliable, effective and efficient feature extraction for the diagnosis of rotating machinery. Therefore, developing effective bearing fault diagnostic method using different fault features at different steps becomes more attractive. Bearings are widely used in medical applications, food processing industries, semi-conductor industries, paper making industries and aircraft components. This paper review has demonstrated that the latest reviews applied to rotating machinery on the available a variety of vibration feature extraction. Generally literature is classified into two main groups: frequency domain, time frequency analysis. However, fault detection and diagnosis of rotating machine vibration signal processing methods to present their own limitations. In practice, most healthy ingredients faulty vibration signal from background noise and mechanical vibration signals are buried. This paper also reviews that how the advanced signal processing methods, empirical mode decomposition and interference cancellation algorithm has been investigated and developed. The condition for rotating machines based rehabilitation, prevent failures increase the availability and reduce the cost of maintenance is becoming necessary too. Rotating machine fault detection and diagnostics in developing algorithms signal processing based on a key problem is the fault feature extraction or quantification. Currently, vibration signal, fault detection and diagnosis of rotating machinery based techniques most widely used techniques. Furthermore, the researchers are widely interested to make automatic procedures for fault extraction techniques. – Restaurants’ primary objective is to provide comfort and satisfaction to guest without compromising the operational efficiency of the business. This research aimed to determine the operational efficiency and customer satisfaction of restaurants as a basis for business operation enhancement. Specifically to determine the operational efficiency of the restaurant in terms of kitchen operations and dining operations and the level of customer satisfaction of the restaurant business in terms of: Product, Policies, People, Processes and Proactivity as well as the problems encountered by the restaurant in their operation and customer service. Descriptive research design was used with managers and customers as respondents of the study. It was concluded that majority of the restaurants are operating for more than a year with sufficient number of employees having enough seating capacity that accommodate large volume of customers. Restaurants are efficient on the aspect of kitchen and dining operations and sometimes encountered problems. Customers are satisfied in terms of 5 P’s. It was found out that there is no significant difference in the operational efficiency of restaurant when grouped according to profile variables. An action plan for continuous business operation enhancement on operational efficiency and customer satisfaction was proposed.

The decline of the talaba (saccosrea malabonensis) production in Barangay Concepcion, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay motivated the fisher folks to determine the cause of the phenomenon through the Social Action Ministry (SAM) – Diocese of Ipil, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay,Philippines who arranged for the conduct of the study. The research was hypothesized to be caused by climate change. Data collection began on January 28 until February 8, 2012 on site. Twelve (12) sampling sites were installed in Concepcion River barangay Balongis, Buayan Zamboanga Sibugay where the barangay’s fish cage and oyster (Talaba) farms are Global Positioning System (GPS) gadget was used for the identification/markings of sampling stations (07⁰ 46.00 N and 122⁰47.116E to 07⁰45.778 N and 122⁰47.151 E) Water and soil/sediment samples were taken and analyzed once a week for three consecutive weeks – January 28 to February 18, 2012. Physical water parameters were taken in situ (pH, Temperature, salinity and TSS). Water temperature raging 24⁰C-31.5⁰C, water pH 7.0-8.24, water salinity 18 -27.6 ppt. Total Suspended Solids (TSS) ranged 0.104 g/L to 0.672 g/L – classified turbid water for all sampling sites. Sediment analysis: for mercury containment – qualitative analysis is negative, Soil Classification using the Textual triangle – soil classified as Loamy Sand (Sites 7-10) and Sandy Loam for all other sites. Meiofauna component using the Nematoma, turbellaria, Ciliophora, Ostracoda, Gastrotricha, Tardigrada, Sarcomastigaphora, Sincarida, Copepoda and some other unidentified fauna. Sedimentation rate averaged from 1410-6469 g/m2 per week. The high sediment rate could have caused the decline in oyster production but not by mercury contamination as suspected.

One of the most influential saints of the modern times was St. Therese of Lisieux or the Little Flower as she is known by many. This is due to her little way which emphasized that man does not need to be a spiritual master in order to connect and relate with the Divine, instead she exemplified that life in its simplicity can be a sure way towards sanctity. Such little ways was clearly reflected in her autobiography “The story of a soul”. Through the saint’s autobiography, this study aimed to explore how did the Little Flower discover and find God in the ordinary and in particular how can it address the realities and challenges of the modern day spirituality. By applying Martin Buber’ principle of “I-Thou” and “I-It” relationship and doing a thematic analysis on the saint’s autobiography the researchers were able to discover that St. Therese was able to find God in the ordinary by relating to the world in its wholeness and not as a material object. In the same way the saint was also able to address the modern day trend of spirituality of religious indifference and unbelief. Specifically this “I-Thou” relationship portrayed by St. Therese was actualized by her acceptance of the realities of her humanity, the Divine and the primacy of love.

The study endeavoured to ascertain the educational philosophies adhered by Filipino preservice teachers. Descriptive survey research method was employed. The participants of the study were the 76 fourth year Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) of the College of Teacher Education in one state university in the Philippines. Data were gathered with the use of standardized research tool. Research findings showed that the Filipino preservice teachers espoused a very high adherence to progressivism educational philosophy and high orientation to existentialism and reconstructionism. They also showed a moderate adherence to perennialism and existentialism philosophies. These imply that they espoused a high student-centred teaching belief with partial acceptance to teacher-centred teaching belief. Test of difference and Post hoc analysis revealed that course, residence and scholastic standing in high school spelled differences on the educational philosophies of the Filipino preservice teachers. Findings of the study present initiatives for 21st century teacher education preparation program.
