This study is an exploratory analysis of the possibility of improving the accuracy and precision of typical time series model in forecasting future prices of rice crop by combining the techniques of ARIMA and Kalman filter respectively. Using actual rice data collected over a period of five years, the performance of the typical ARIMA model was compared to the combined performance of ARIMA-Kalman filter using Mean Square Error(MSE) and Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) as the bases of comparison. Results of the analysis revealed that a more accurate and precise time series estimates of future price of rice can be achieved when the technique of Kalman filter is combined with typical ARIMA time series model. Further analysis showed that predicted values generated by the combined techniques from out- of -sample forecasts are fairly closer to the actual values. On the basis of the findings of this study, the development of a time series software that will work on combining the algorithms of the ARIMA and Kalman filter is recommended.

Calculus is oftentimes avoided by most students due to the common notion of its difficulty as a subject. Likewise, some studies revealed that most students find the topics in this subject very abstract to understand. To address these problems, a mnemonic device called MnemoPow (Mnemonics Power) was developed. A quasi- experimental study was conducted in the laboratory high school of one state college in Sorsogon City to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed mnemonic device. Two classes composed of forty- five (n= 45) students each were involved in this study as controlled and experimental group. The controlled group was introduced to Limit Theorems of Calculus using traditional lecture method while the experimental group was exposed to MnemoPow Device. Results of Pretest and Posttest were tested using t- test at 0. 05 level. Findings revealed that there is a significant difference between the performance of both groups. MnemoPow Device was found to be an effective approach in teaching Limit Theorems in Calculus.

Passing the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) has been the ultimate focus of tertiary education institutions in the Philippines to meet the present demand of local and global parties and communities. Hence, various strategies are conducted to increase the likelihood that the prospect will happen. With this, the current study determines the predictors of LET performance of the 146 Bachelor of Secondary Education graduates that could serve as basis for enhancing program strategies for a better LET rating. A descriptive correlational method through the analysis of registration data on LET, grade weighted average, college admission test (CAT) scores, and course audit scores was conducted. Descriptive statistics and correlational tests were employed in the analysis of these data. Results showed that low LET performance is influenced by low performances in academics and admission test, and limited course audit units taken. Admission test performance, however, does not predict LET performance in Major. On the other hand, course audit performance can only forecast licensure exam scores in Major. Hence, to increase LET performance, the program should consider benchmarking from LET performing institutions, choose the right faculty to teach a course, secure the validity and/or reliability of instructional materials and assessment tools with LET competencies, strictly implement the admission and retention policy, and assess regularly the efficacy of the course audit in all areas.

The paper examined the effect of educational technology (computer-aided instruction CAI) in teaching on the attitude and performance of primary six pupils in mathematics in Jos metropolis. The aim was to examine how the use of computer-aided instruction in the teaching of mathematics will cause an improvement in the attitude and performance of pupils in mathematics. Four research questions were raised and two hypotheses was formulated to guide the study. The sample consisted of 151 pupils drawn from two public primary schools in Jos metropolis. The sample was divided into two groups called control and experimental groups. Pupils in the experimental group were taught mathematics using CAI while the central group was taught conventionally. Data for the study were elicited using a mathematics attitude scale (MAS) and a mathematics achievement test (MAT) designed by the researchers. The means score was used to answer all the research questions and t-test was used to test hypotheses. Results obtained showed that the attitude of pupils towards mathematics was negative before the treatment; also the pupils were below average in their performance in mathematics. After the treatment, pupils in the experimental group were found to have a more positive attitude and better performance than those in control group. It was recommended among other things that teachers of mathematics should endeavour to use CAI in their teaching of mathematics. The study concluded therefore that the use of educational technology (CAI) is effective in improving the attitude and performance of primary six pupils in mathematics.

Pineapple puree and juice of 11 to 12 °Brix were used to obtain pineapple powder using oven-drying technique. Addition of maltodextrin in treatments 2 and 4 yielded good quality powder, however addition of sugar and maltodextrin in treatments 1 and 3 resulted to sticky product which was processed to pineapple leather. Treatment 2 composed of pineapple puree and maltodextrin resulted to significantly higher powder recovery compared with treatment 4 which composed of pineapple juice and maltodextrin. The solubility of pineapple powder improved as maltodextrin concentration is increased from 40.00 % to 60.00 %.Addition of maltodextrin also reduced stickiness of the final product. An instant pineapple powder of 5.47 and 5.33 % moisture content could be produced by oven-drying.This level of moisture content will prohibit bacterial growth in the pineapple powder but may have mold or yeast growth with increase storage period at environments with high humidity. Molds were observed on the 17th day at 89.00 % relative humidity as exhibited by the moisture sorption isotherm data. This suggests that appropriate packaging with moisture barrier is recommended for pineapple powder. This study showedthat by using appropriate ratio of juice, puree, and maltodextrin and appropriate oven drying conditions, a good oven-dried pineapple powder could be obtained.

The study determined the extent of management support on the Mathematics instruction under the K to 12 Program in selected Secondary Schools in the Philippines to help give direction on the proposed management plan to ensure the successful implementation of the program. It looked into the personal and professional characteristics of the teachers handling Mathematics subjects. Likewise, comparison on the responses of the two groups regarding extent of management support being given was also taken into consideration. The researcher used the descriptive method of research using probability sampling technique to identify the respondents of the study. There were 30 administrators/school heads and 306 Mathematics teachers who participated in the survey. Result of the study revealed that the administrators believed that Mathematics teachers highly manifested the personal and professional characteristics becoming of a mathematics teacher. On the other hand, the Mathematics teachers themselves believed that it is only moderately manifested on them. The management supported the Mathematics instruction to a moderate extent. Further, there is no difference on the assessment of administrators and Mathematics teacher on the extent of management support being given by the respective administrators. In light of the foregoing, management plan was proposed to ensure best Mathematics instruction under the K to 12 Program were suggested.

The quality of science teaching the students experience is claimed to be the strongest influence in the development of positive attitude towards science, the sine qua non for its public appreciation. In this fully video-documented quasi-experimental study, the effect of using consensus in instructional-decision making on students' attitude towards Biology in undergraduate biological science class was tested. Covering the unit in bioenergetics, two classes were compared. One class was taught using conventional instruction while the other used the consensus process. In the consensus class, students raised an issue in the learning plan, negotiated, proposed an alternative, participated in a ‘grand conversation', made decisions using consensus, and adhered to the agreed instructional activities. They were further grouped and were tasked to arrive at a consensus answer on a focus question related to the lesson discussed. Both classes were pre-tested and post-tested with the Attitude towards Biology Scale. Analysis of covariance showed that the intervention is effective in improving students’ overall attitude towards Biology specifically in developing a positive perception of the biology teacher, improving keenness to learn Biology and enhancing enjoyment of the subject. Findings provide an empirical support on the use of consensus as an approach in instructional-decision making.

The study focused on the extent of utilization of the educational innovations and technology in research and extension functions of SUs. The descriptive design, triangulation method, and purposive sampling were applied in this study. The findings revealed that majority of the respondents are married adults and master’s degree graduates with education as their area of specialization. They are permanent in status and have considerable years in the University serving as research or extension officer. Research of SUs have common research thrusts in terms of environment and natural resources management but differ in their own respective agenda; similarly the SUs share common extension thrusts and concerns but differ in their programs, activities and projects related to community services. Commonly encountered problems concern inadequate funds and inability to access the available technology. Officers utilized educational innovations on research and extension to a moderate extent but software and hardware were utilized to a great extent; likewise internet-based communication was utilized to a great extent for research but used moderately for extension. This implies that compared to research, most of the extension functions do not require the use of internet-based communication. From the results of the study, it was recommended that review of the existing allocation of funds for technology development may be done to improve the existing hardware, software and communication facilities.

This paper discusses the significance of “re-contextualization” of Christian dogmas on God, Christ and Grace which has implications to Catholic religious education. The Catholic Church has been faithful in adhering to dogmas because they are really based on the personal and communal experiences of the people of God. The paper utilized qualitative research methods to content analyze the Church documents and other publications about dogmas. Findings revealed that dogmas form part of the Catholic Church’s life. However, implications for Catholic religious education are strategies on how to teach dogmas in the context of students so that they may live a full Christian life of doctrine, morals, and worship. Hence, it can be concluded that Christian dogmas must always be the center of Catholic religious education.

This study aimed to document the traditional knowledge of traditional healers of Laguna, Philippines on the use of medicinal plants in treating different diseases. Thirty two respondents were identified following a snowball sampling technique and were interviewed on their traditional knowledge and practice of using different medicinal plants. The gathered data were identified with the help of literature from different published articles and websites. A total of 50 plant species, grouped into 29 families were recorded. The families most represented were Lamiaceae with eight species, Euphorbiaceae with five species and Asteraceae with three species. Out of 27 medicinal uses, the eight most common were urinary tract infection, wound infection, stomachache, cough, diabetes, headache, cold and hypertension. The commonness preparations were done by boiling the leaves with water (decoction) and taken internally.

This research study focused on the development of a software that helps students design, write, validate and run their pseudocode in a semi Integrated Development Environment (IDE) instead of manually writing it on a piece of paper.Specifically, the study aimed to develop lexical analyzer or lexer, syntax analyzer or parser using recursive descent parsing algorithm and an interpreter. The lexical analyzer reads pseudocodesource in a sequence of symbols or characters as lexemes.The lexemes are then analyzed by the lexer that matches a pattern for valid tokens and passes to the syntax analyzer or parser. The syntax analyzer or parser takes those valid tokens and builds meaningful commands using recursive descent parsing algorithm in a form of an abstract syntax tree. The generation of an abstract syntax tree is based on the specified grammar rule created by the researcher expressed in Extended Backus-Naur Form. The Interpreter takes the generated abstract syntax tree and starts the evaluation or interpretation to produce pseudocode output. The software was evaluated using white-box testing by several ICT professionals and black-box testing by several computer science students based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9126 software quality standards. The overall results of the evaluation both for white-box and black-box were described as “Excellent in terms of functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and portability”.

The study was therefore design to generate scientific information that are vital for organic farming advocates as it uses natural organic farm inputs in the production of corn. It was conducted because of the insurmountable rising cost of inorganic fertilizers perspective the farmers have to look for alternative measures to sustain the profitability of their farming business by evaluating the efficacy of seaweeds emulsion (Carrageenan) as nutrient supplement to organic fertilizer on glutinous corn production, a study was conducted at the Cagayan State University – Lal-lo, Cagayan from July 17 to September 25, 2016with the following treatments: T1- Control, T2 – 3 tons Organic Fertilizer, T3 - 1.5 liters Seaweeds Emulsion ha-1 , T4 - 3 liters Seaweeds Emulsion ha-1 , T5 - 4.5 liters Seaweeds Emulsion ha-1 and T6 - 6 liters Seaweeds Emulsion ha-1 arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The treatments have no significant effect on plant height. Application of seaweed emulsion affected the grain development as manifested by longer and heavier corn ear. Higher rates (3-6 li ha-1 ) proved to more efficient as indicated by the bigger ear, highest yield and ROI of 909.62 percent. The study revealed that 3 tons Organic Fertilizer with liters of seaweed emulsion improved glutinous corn production. Further study is recommended to validate the result and come up with a more reliable conclusion.

–Taking into account the increased research on the status of women and on gender concerns which lead to question the stereotyped assumptions about gender elations and the roles and responsibilities of men and women, the study determined the gender mainstreaming in the General Education and Professional Education Courses in one Higher Education Institution in the Philippines where there were 21 participants interviewed through two sets of focus group discussion. The result of the study showed that there is an apparent inclusion of gender and development in General Education and Professional Education Courses which can be categorized into explicit or implicit integration. Moreover, there were variety of teaching strategies and materials used inintegrating Gender and Development (GAD). It ranges from film showing followed by critical discussions, research output presentations, role-play, class discussions, art analysis, literary analysis, and lecture/forum of an expert. From the employed strategies and materials, it articulates the meaning of GAD that men and women must be provided with equal opportunities to realize their full potentials. Such articulation, however, requires committed interpretation especially from the faculty members. From there, it gives students an awareness and to an extent of self-interpretations. The university can further help in GAD initiatives by defining the university’s GAD framework so as to integrate GAD in the level of the curriculum, research, extension, planning, materials, policies, and budget.

Fish for Every Family Project (FFEFP) is one of the initiatives of Plan International that responds to the issue of malnutrition among Filipino children. FFEFP aims to promote and develop backyard tilapia fish farming in Isabela, Mindoro Occidental, Southern Leyte, and Western Samar, Philippines. These are the areas in the country where malnutrition is commonly observed. This study explores the adoption to The Fish for Every Family Project (FFEFP), and assesses its impacts in different levels. This impact assessment of FFEFP was conducted in Occidental Mindoro. The researchers used purposive sampling to touch base directly with a representative sample of the FFEFP beneficiaries in three out of four municipalities in Mindoro Occidental. The data were gathered through focus group discussions with the key officials in the area and some tilapia cage culture technology adopters. Key informant interviews (KIIs) of all project stakeholders were also conducted as well. In order to validate the information gathered from the respondents and to see the fish farms used, field visits and ocular inspection were made. The study revealed that the FFEFP has various impacts to the beneficiaries, adopters, and replicators of tilapia. The impacts occurred at three levels: individual, family, and community. It was found out that the project was able to provide self-satisfaction among the beneficiaries and build stronger relationships among the members of the family and of the community.

Facebook use is a new and complex social behavior that has stimulated research interests in psychology. Due to a distinct lack of theoretical basis for this new communication phenomenon, a number of studies established the significant association between personality traits and Facebook use. This study investigated the motivational effect of friends’ feedback on the user’s subsequent Facebook posting and examined the correspondence between the user’s perceived motivation and actual motivation-behavior outcome using a new method. Results showed no significant association between the number of feedback and the number of subsequent posts, users’ perceived motivations were consistent with their actual motivation-behavior outcomes, users’ self-reports validated the new results and confirmed the previous findings that Facebook use is aimed at satisfying the individual’s needs for belongingness, self-presentation, and social information-seeking. It is suggested that the amount of feedback on Facebook is an ineffective determinant of the users’ frequency of subsequent postings.

This study explored the physical activities of fifth and sixth graders that projected correlations to science performance and how these physical activities may be utilized for classroom purposes in the context of science-related play activities. Descriptive survey correlational design directed the data collection and analysis of the physical activities of purposively selected 133 fifth and sixth graders. Primarily, the study used a researcher-developed and validated instrument (Physical Activity Questionnaire [PAQ]), and standard instruments: Philippine National Physical Activity Guide (PNPAG) and General Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ). The latter classified the physical activities into five domains which directed the interpretation of the participants‟ responses. The Pearson-r Moment of Correlation described the level of correlation of the frequency of engagement to physical activities (limited to local and localized activities) and the science grade of the respondents. Results show that each of the physical activity domains showed specific correlations to science performance of the respondents. For further research, enrichment of the relationship of the physical activities and the science performance may focus on possible moderating variables like economic status, and time allotment for physical activities.

This study aims to know the factors influencing the retardation in procurement of construction materials on Sepaku-Petung pavement improvement project in East Kalimantan Province;to know the most dominant factor affecting the retardation in procurement of construction materials on Sepaku-Petung pavement improvement project in East Kalimantan Province; to determine what strategies that minimize the waiting time of materials in the improvement of Sepaku-Petung pavement project in East Kalimantan Province. This study used quantitative research method. The data was collected through interview, questionnaire distribution, and discussion forum. Based on the results of research and data analysis conducted, it can be concluded thatsuppliers, contractors, field conditions, and unpredictable conditionswere affecting the retardation in procurement of materials in the pavement improvement project in East Kalimantan. Field condition was the most dominant factors in the realization of Sepaku-Petung pavement improvement project in East Kalimantan province. Type B (Retarding Admixtures) could be added to retard the time-binding of the concrete (setting time), therefore minimizing material procurement waiting time. The contractor should also build his own supplier close to the project site to reduce the distance between the

Educational tourism clearly situates the new role of Sorsogon State College (SSC) for world-class education while in support to the locally sustainable tourism development of the province and beyond. This paper was able to assess SSC’s capacities to manage globally competitive and locally responsive educational tourism. A mix method of research was used in examining the SSC’s educational tourism through an inventory of academic performance and quality management excellence for global competitiveness. Results revealed that to attract more educational tourists, SSC is expected to perform effectively and efficiently in a modern research world through the complementation of instruction-research and extension mandates that is contributory to the sustainable development goals. The over-all educational management of SSC is central to leadership including the key aspects of its governance system (personnel behaviour, fulfilment of the societal responsibilities and community support). Further enhancements on the organizational performance of SSC are needed on the following : operations, workforce and clientele support. The College has to strengthen its internationalization policies on the faculty and students inter-country mobility and productivity of its graduates that would address the future educational tourism demands. Further, it has to invest on modern learning resources and support services facilities and equipment to be utilized for instruction, research, extension and administrative workspaces. Thus, closes the gap on job-skills mismatch and the compelling resources requirements of SSC graduates to the local and international markets. With these, an academe-led innovation and transformation project anchored on the SSC’s educational tourism model integrating the Psychology of Tourism to management is introduced.

Indian mangoes are considered highly perishable products due to high moisture content which resulted in high postharvest losses in Pangasinan, Philippines. This study exploits the potential of underutilized indian mango to value-added products. The developed indian mango leather and osmo-dehyrated indian mango are dehydrated fruit products can be eaten as snacks or desserts. Indian mango leather was prepared by mixing fruit puree and other additives like sugar, citric acid, and sodium metabisulphite and then dehydrated them at 55 °C for 15 hours under convective oven. Osmodehydrated indian mango was prepared by immersing halves of deseeded and deskinned pulps in 50 % (w/w) sucrose solution for 20 hours followed by drying initially at 50 °C then after one hour at 60 °C for 15 hours. Thirty-three member untrained panels were involved in consumer acceptance evaluation. Panelists evaluated the color, sweetness, sourness, texture, and overall acceptability of the osmoticallytreated indian mango and indian mango leather using seven-point hedonic scale. Over-all, the indian mango leather and osmo-dehydrated indian mango developed in this study seemed to be acceptable for all the sensory parameters as indicated by high scores of greater than five (>5).

The number of mangroves in the world has been alarming that poses a big threat to destruction of the marine ecosystem. Some of these threats include habitat destruction, invasive species, over population, over exploitation, and pollution. This research aimed to determine the species abundance and diversity of a community-managed mangrove forest in Calatagan Marine Protected Area through its community structure. A survey of the vegetation structure of mangrove was conducted to determine the GBH (girth at breast height), height and the tree’s crown in the four (4) standard 10 m x 10 m transect plots. DBH (diameter at breast height), basal area, canopy cover, relative frequency, relative dominance and relative density were also assessed. Species diversity and abundance were computed using the Shannon-Weiner diversity index. The results of the community structure in average revealed that the GBH is 13.57 cm, height of 3.50 m, crown 1.28 m, DBH of 4.32 cm, basal area of 0.0164 m2 and canopy cover of 5.30 m2. The study shows a very low species diversity value (H’) ranging from 0.4692 to 1.2178. Seven species belonging to six families of mangroves were identified. Avicennia marina was determined to be the most dominant among the identified species in the sampling plots. With these results, conservation of mangrove forest by the local community stakeholders can be strengthened to improve the community structure towards the resiliency of the mangrove forest. It is endorsed that community-based conservation of mangroves can be considered in mangrove management, monitoring and evaluation.

This study aimed to determine: the academic profile of Bachelor of Technical Teacher Education (BTTE) Ladder 1 students in terms of entrance examination, GWM in GEC subjects and TESDA Competency Assessment; their strengths and weaknesses along TESDA Assessment; the significant relationship between Entrance Examination & GWA, GWA & TESDA Competency and Entrance Examination & TESDA Competency, the significant interrelationship among the three variables; and the program or intervention which could be proposed to improve their academic performance. Data were gathered from one hundred fifty eight (158) BTTE Ladder 1 graduates of SY 2014-2016 through a questionnaire and documentary analysis and were statistically treated using percentage, weighted mean, Spearman’s rho and multiple coefficients. The researcher concluded that BTTE Ladder 1 students are competent as assessed by TESDA despite being low in entrance examination. Their weaknesses lie along communication and comprehension but they prove to be capable also on the condition that Filipino language is used and questions are repeated or rephrased. They also lack exposure to the tools and equipment used their field. Their strength is evident in performing the task but not in explaining the process. Both the Entrance Examination & GWA, GWM & TESDA Competency and Entrance Exam & TESDA Competency are significantly interrelated.

The study assessed the effectiveness of student services and their influence on student development in the four campuses of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), SY 2013- 2014. Descriptive, evaluative, comparative and correlational methods of research were employed. Respondents were administrators, faculty members and student leaders. Data were gathered through questionnaire, interview, documentary analysis and ocular inspection and were treated statistically using weighted mean, ranking, one-way ANOVA, Pearson R correlation analysis and DMRT. Findings revealed that the four campuses of CBSUA were ”very effective” in managing the different student services. The social, cultural, political and intellectual aspects of students in the four campuses of CBSUA were “highly developed” through the various student services provided. Student services such as sports development, library, student organizations, arts and culture development, guidance and counseling, scholarship and financial assistance, campus ministry and health services did not vary among campuses.

Adopting a poststructuralist discourse analysis framework, the study explores a student‘s multiple subjectivities framed within discursive relations of power. Acknowledging language as a major contestation site for negotiating subjectivities, it looks into the narrative of Ares, a senior university student. Utilizing the biographical approach, the study is centered on the shifting and fluid discourses in the student life of Ares, on how she was both positioned and positioning within conflicting discourses of an ―obedient student‖ and ―resisting student‖ surrounded by oppressive practices of academics. ―Obedience‖ in the context of Ares meant refraining from questioning an academic‘s authority, undervaluing the self, and playing by expectations. However, a competing discourse involved ―resistance‖ in the form of non-attendance to classes, contemplating on students‘ rights, recognizing oppression, blaming, and prescribing. These discourses can potentially provide a glimpse into the effects of academics‘ oppressive behaviors towards students and create possibilities for the development of institutional policies to help suppress a troubling culture of oppression in the academe. Implications for the academic community are considered.

Establishing the tourism and agriculture linkage is a vital factor for the promotion of agri-tourism. This study aimed to determine the tourism and agriculture factors in Quezon province. Specifically, to present the profile of tourists and farmers; determine the supply and demand – related factors influencing the linkage between tourism and agriculture; test the significant difference in the responses of tourists and farmers in terms of supply and demand related factors; test the significant differences on the supply and demand related factors when grouped according to profile; test the significant relationship between tourists’ motivation and preferences and propose an action plan for agritourism development in Quezon. This study used descriptive design with farmers and tourist as respondents. Self-made questionnaire was utilized as data gathering instrument. Percentage, frequency distribution, weighted mean, T-Test, ANOVA and Pearson-r correlation were the statistical tools used. Based on the result, it was revealed that tourism and agriculture linkages in Quezon province were relatively strong. Educational attainment of farmers is an important factor for agriculture supply, civil status and income were found to be the major indicators of tourist demands while safety and security becomes the major consideration of tourists to visit agritourism sites. It is recommended that there is a need to educate farmers in order to encourage diversification of farms into agri-tourism wherein market segmentation is vital for agri-tourism promotion while fostering a community-based agri-tourism in Quezon province is likewise highly recommended.

The study aimed to determine the relationship between teachers’ integration of environmental awareness and level of sustainable development practices of selected public high schools in the First District of Oriental Mindoro. Using the descriptive correlational and comparative studies, the questionnaires were distributed to 384 students. The study found out that the teachers integrated environmental awareness topics on waste management, pollution, forest conservation and climate change on their class lessons; the schools were practicing proper waste disposal, recycling, composting, tree planting and energy conservation for sustainable development practices. Teachers’ integration of environmental awareness influences sustainable development practices. This integration and practices can be enhanced by reaching out to communities outside the school and by strengthening the established linkages to other environment-related agencies in order to achieve sustainability. It means amplifying by extending sustainable practices as collaborative effort of the students, schools, outside communities, LGU’s and other related government and nongovernment agencies. Such interaction can improve the quality and coverage of sustainable practices not only in school but in the whole community.

This scholarly work aimed to determine the child care practices that have the potential in honing a child with good school performance. The result of the study led to the formulation of a model that typifies the good child care practices. Since children are on the accepting side, it is the way parents raise and rear them that will influence what they will be in the near future. The participants were selected as they are included in the top performing public schools in Batangas City, Philippines. The parents and teachers of the said child were the respondents to assess the ability of the child. A total of 215 students from grades 4 to 6 were selected as the target sample. Descriptive correlational design was utilized to determine the relationship between the child care practices and school performance. A self- made questionnaire was formulated and used face validity and content reliability to come up with the most appropriate instrument. Frequency distribution, weighted mean and chi square were the statistical tests utilized to aid the analysis of data. Based on the result of the study, breastfeeding, proper hygiene, allowing the child to participate in family conversation and providing monetary allowance were among the practices that lead to children’s good school performance. Having knowledge on these practices will guide parents in giving their child a better and assured future, and eventually benefit their children as they become parents themselves.

This study aimed to determine whether a localized curriculum would improve the reading achievement of the Grade 8 students. The research subjects were the Grade 8 students of Escalante National High School, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Pretest-posttest experimental design was utilized in this study. Two groups of subjects were compared in terms of their pretest and posttest results. The experimental group was exposed to the localized curriculum for their reading instruction while the control group received the reading instruction as prescribed by the K to 12 - Grade 8 English curriculum. The data were obtained using the researcher-made test instrument. Descriptive mean, paired and independent sample t-tests were the statistical tools used for the data analysis. The research findings revealed that the reading achievement of the Grade 8 students in English in the experimental group improved from ‘approaching proficient’ to ‘proficient’. It implied that localized curriculum helped increase the level of reading achievement of the students, thus the hypothesis of no significant difference between the pretest and posttest of the experimental group was rejected. This study suggested that since localized curriculum improved the reading achievement of the students, the school may establish a ‘school-based curriculum localization matrix aside from using the ‘regional and division curriculum localization matrix’ and ensure a continuous capability building for teachers on how to localize curriculum. A similar investigation may be conducted like the teachers' knowledge and skills and effective strategies in localized curriculum in relation the students' academic performance

The study evaluated the effects of a developed lesson exemplars in electricity integrating computer simulations and constructivist approach on students' Epistemological Beliefs. Specifically, it sought to determine how computer simulations, constructivist approach and Formative Assessment Classroom Technique (FACT) can be integrated in the lesson exemplars in electricity; and evaluate the effects of the developed lesson exemplars in the students’ Epistemological Beliefs. The investigation employed the pre-experimental single-group pretest and posttest study using the Epistemological Beliefs Assessment in Physical Sciences (EBAPS) questionnaire. The study was conducted among seventy-two (72) Grade 10 students of a laboratory high school from a state university in the Philippines. They were taught using Physics Educational Technology (PhET) and other web-based simulations, constructivist approach, and formative assessment classroom technique. The results revealed that the over-all Epistemological Beliefs of the students did not change significantly; only along Nature of Knowing and Learning and Real-Life Applicability. Generally, utilizing computer simulations and applying constructivist approach did not alter students' epistemological beliefs in its entirety. However, it can be engaging and effective in promoting students’ understanding of Physics.

The study determined the relationship between self-esteem and freshmen students’ adjustment to college in Higher Education Institutions in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. The descriptive correlational and comparative research methods were used in the study. The questionnaires were distributed to 357 freshmen students from selected HEIs. The study determined the relationship between self-esteem and freshmen students’ adjustment to college in Higher Education Institutions in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. The descriptive correlational and comparative research methods were used in the study. The questionnaires were distributed to 357 freshmen students from selected HEIs. The study found out that the respondents had high self-esteem and high level of adjustment to college; the two variables have a positive correlation. It is recommended that there should be sequential institutional and classroom activities that encourage adjustment of new students and the development of their self-esteem.

This study aimed primarily to determine the effectiveness of crime prevention strategies implemented by the Salug Valley Philippine National Police (PNP) in terms of Police Integrated Patrol System, Barangay Peacekeeping Operation, Anti-Criminality Operation, Integrated Area Community Public Safety services, Bantay Turista and School Safety Project as evaluated by 120 inhabitants and 138 PNP officers from four Municipalities of Salug Valley Zamboanga del Sur. Stratified random sampling was utilized in determining the respondents. Index crime rate were correlated with the crime prevention strategies of the PNP in town of Salug Valley. A descriptive method of research was applied in this study utilizing self-made questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using the main statistical tools like frequency count, percentage, mean computation, Kruskal Wallis Analysis of Variance and simple correlation. Findings of the study revealed that the crime prevention strategies in four (4) municipalities were “much effective” to include Integrated Patrol System, Barangay Peace Keeping Operations, AntiCriminality Operations, Integrated Area Community Public Safety Services, Bantay Turista and School Safety Project in connection to the responses of 158 participants. There is a significant relationship between crime prevention strategies employed and index crime rate.

This experimental study aimed to determine the sensory characteristics of sweet potato cupcakes enriched with 5, 10 and 15 grams of turmeric powder in terms of its outside characteristics such as shape, color, volume and crust and its inside characteristics such as color, grain, texture, taste and aroma. The level of acceptability as to appearance, taste, texture, aroma and general acceptability was also evaluated. The sensory characteristics were evaluated by selected panel of evaluators using a sensory evaluation score sheet based on the Six - Point Hedonic Scale. Findings revealed that the outside characteristics of sweet potato cupcakes enriched with 5 grams turmeric powder has a moderately rounded top, inside characteristic was yellow-orange in color. On the other hand, sweet potato cupcakes enriched with 10 grams and 15 grams turmeric powder have a perfectly rounded top, inside characteristic was yellow in color. While, outside chracteristics such as yellow-orange in color, moderately light in weight in proportion to size and has a moderately shiny surface and inside characteristics such as thin-walled cells with no larger air spaces, moderately moist, moderately tender, moderately distinct sweet potato taste and have a moderately distinct sweet potato aroma were common to 5, 10 and 15 grams turmeric powder. Moreover, sweet potato cupcakes with 0 grams turmeric powder has perfectly rounded top, light brown in color, moderately light in weight in proportion to size and has a moderately shiny surface while the inside characteristics were light brown in color, moderately uniform, thin-walled cells with no larger air spaces, moderately moist, moderately tender, moderately distinct sweet potato taste and has a very distinct sweet potato aroma. Sweet potato cupcakes with 5 grams turmeric powder was the most acceptable since it was very much liked by the group of evaluators as to its general acceptability and very comparable to all sensory characteristics. Significant differences existed in the level of acceptability of sweet potato cupcakes enriched with turmeric powder in terms of taste, aroma and general acceptability. No significant differences existed in the level of acceptability of sweet potato cupcakes enriched with turmeric powder in terms of appearance and texture as evaluated by pupils, high school students and housewives

This study was conducted to find out the theoretical orientation of the faculty members of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), Kabacan, Cotabato, Philippines on effective teaching whether leaning towards the Behaviorist or Constructivist learning theory. Further, dimensions and elements of effective teaching were identified based on their theoretical orientation. The study used the descriptive – cross-sectional survey design because it sought to find out the perspective of the faculty, differences in faculty perspective when grouped according to length of serviceand educational qualification. It used random sampling by proportionate allocation of 30% of faculty members per college or institute. They were chosen based on their length of serviceand educational qualification. The instrument that was used in this study is a questionnaire of twenty items, each with two statements about teaching. One statement leans towards Behaviorist view and the other towards the Constructivist view. Statements were randomly arranged to start with either Behaviorist or Constructivist view. The faculty members chose the statement they considered important in effective teaching. From their answers, the dimensions and elements of effective teaching were identified.USM faculty members’ view of effective teaching leans towards the Constructivist theory. The identified elements of effective teaching by USM faculty members under the dimension of Intellectual Quality, Quality Learning Environment, and Significance of Learning conform to the Constructivist view; however, they prefer a Teacher-Directed instruction.Regardless of length of service and educational qualification, the faculty members of USM are Constructivist in orientation.

This study attempts to provide a modest contribution to the field of educational politics or politics of education, an area least explored by most educational scholars in the Philippines. This looks at how the experience of two local colleges and universities (LCUs), which catered primarily for underprivileged youths, have confronted issues beyond the immediate realm of education i.e. politics, patronage and contestation for power and influence. Distinct from the private tertiary higher education institutions and State Universities and Colleges of the country, these LCUs have been growing substantially nationwide for the past decade. Yet, what appears to be an uncharted territory for most local governments, the venture into the higher education has been regarded as a form of poverty alleviation and investment in human development especially that these caters primarily to the poor and underprivileged. This study however reveals that these schools are beset with both institutional and curricular challenges. Using key informant interviews, reviewing various pertinent documents and analysing published articles in local and national broadsheets pertaining to the said colleges, the experience of the two LCUs demonstrated how contentious public education ventures can be. As such, it engenders resistance and opposition which ultimately compel its stakeholders to navigate through the political process.

This study unraveled the degree of eroticism and queer attraction in 41 selected Bicol Lyric Poetry. The researchers used the Grounded Theory Method (GTM) and integrated the Queer Theory and Psychoanalytic approach in the textual analysis of selected Bicol lyric poetry in an attempt to explain the degree of eroticism and queer attraction of Bicolanos. The Analyses of the researchers were validated through the participants of the study which included 10 binary genders, 10 male homosexuals, 10 lesbians and 10 experts in the field of Bicol literature. The researchers identified four degrees of eroticism and named it: Tikwil, Girok, Kagat and Siram (Bicol terms which mean poke, tickle, bite, and euphoria). Significant findings of the study revealed that homosexuals, bisexuals and lesbians exist in Bicol lyric poetry, and Bicolanos, as seen on their lyric poetry, fell under the degree of Kagat, where people engage into sexual activities for physical gratification. In addition, queer Bicolanos, as seen on their lyric poetry, driven by strong physical attraction, give in into sexual encounters even with different sexual partners. This study recommended that future studies should explore a wider range of Bicol literature other than lyric poetry and investigate on the presence of queer characters, the roles they project, and dig deeper on the acceptance or condemnation of these queer identities in the society as a whole.
