The Barangay Decision Support and Mapping System aims to address the needs of the barangay for efficient information and decision processing. It allows the record of all the barangay residents and enables the user to create and edit the barangay map using the generally-accepted symbols or icons. It automates the barangay clearances, and permits. It allows the storage and retrieval of barangay-approved ordinances, meetings and resolutions. It records environmental problems and the solutions provided. The system also records cases of domestic violence, disputes and the actions taken by the concerned officials. Moreover, the system provides the necessary reports that can be used by the barangay officials for their barangay planning activities. The system’s functionality was tested by the Barangay Officials of San Miguel, Guimaras as respondents of the study. The respondents strongly agree that the system’s functionality conforms to their needs and requirements. With regards to the ease of use of the system as perceived by the respondents, the respondents agreed that the study is easy to use and the interface of the system is well designed. The reliability and validity of the system was tested by five (5) ICT professionals using ISO 9126 standard. Based on their responses, the system’s evaluation shows that the system conforms to international standards and is therefore valid and reliable to use.

This is a qualitative study utilizing descriptive or hermeneutical phenomenology as research design where it described the lived experiences of selected ex-convicts from the time they are convicted and incarcerated up to the time they are liberated. Phenomenological interviewing was used in data gathering to describe the meaning of the phenomenon (the individual ex-convict’s lived experiences) that each selected key informant shared. In-depth interviews were conducted to arrive at the three phases of data collection needed in the study, namely; epoche or researcher’s self-examination that made him/her aware of personal bias about the phenomenon, phenomenological reduction where the researchers identified the essence of the phenomenon and structural synthesis where the search for deeper meanings and common essences of the phenomenon being studied is done. Results revealed that the feelings of being convicted, co-inmates’ treatment, challenges inside the penitentiary were some of the lived experiences each ex-convict encountered while convicted. The coping mechanisms an ex-convict observe provides him/her an opportunity to live more. Further, the social treatment, motivation to live, the presence of the Divine Intervention upon liberation made an ex-convict fully accept his/her life transformation for the better. With these challenges and lived experiences an ex-convict encountered, appropriate motivation coupled with proper coping mechanisms are highly needed for him/her to continue his life journey.

This study featured how a lady local politician rose to power as a barangay captain. It aimed to: describe her leadership orientation before she became a barangay captain, analyze the factors of her success stories in political leadership, extrapolate her values based on the problems/challenges met in the barangay, unveil her initiatives to address these problems, and interpolate her enduring vision for the future of the barangay. Through a biographical research design, with purposive sampling, a key female informant named as Lady L was chosen with the sole criteria of being a female Barangay Captain of Cebu City. Interview guides were utilized in the generation of Lady L’s biographic information about her political career.Lady L’s experiences in waiting for the perfect time and working in the private sector destined her to have a successful political career enhanced with passion and family influence. Encountering problems concerning basic education and unwanted migrants in Barangay K did not discourage her choice to run for re-election, because of her dedication to public service. Her ways to reach out and collaborate with welfare groups mitigate the problems of parental neglect and informal settlers in her barangay. The story of Lady L implies that in Cebu City, issues arise as a result of the practice of partisan politics, gender issues have minor bearing, and she envisioned a healthy and well-educated barangay, with an improved wellness and child care development.

Assessment plays a crucial role in the delivery of quality education. In the triad of education, assessment is considered one of the key areas aside from curriculum and instruction; thus, educators need to give premium to classroom assessment techniques. This descriptive study determined the level of awareness and extent of utilization of classroom assessment techniques by faculty of a state college in Bicol. Respondents were seventy-six (76) randomly chosen permanent and Contract of Service faculty provided the data by answering a questionnaire. Findings show that the faculties were moderately aware of formative assessment technique and summative assessment technique. Likewise, the faculty moderately utilized both the formative assessment and summative assessment techniques. Pearson product-moment correlation test results show that there is a significant relationship between the level of awareness and the extent of utilization of assessment techniques. Over-all, it is concluded that the higher the level of awareness of the faculty, the higher is their extent of utilization of classroom assessment techniques. Among the proposed measures to enhance utilization of classroom assessment technique are training in classroom assessment by external experts, intensive follow-up activity after the training, and classroom observation.

The study determined the essential elements of an Outcomes-based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) component of an Outcomes-based Education (OBE) cycle. It sought to answer these objectives: (1) extrapolate notable teaching attributes based on the actual teaching demonstration of the 7 subjects; (2) describe each of the OBTL’s quadrant elements (3) design a prototype for an integrated arts-based OBTL.This study utilized a case analysis of the actual observation of recurring subtleties exhibited by the seven subject demonstrators during the In-service Training (INSET) held last October 27, 2015 in one of the city divisions in Cebu, Philippines. Each of them was rated based on the specific skills used according to Hermann’s Learning Quadrants, after a short lecture on pedagogical content knowledge (PCK).A documentation of a sample Lesson Plan (LP) for Quadrant Modelling for Teaching (QMT) was juxtaposed as a noble exemplar.The quest for outcomes-based teaching for brain-based learning vis-à-vis pedagogical content knowledge or PCK cascaded with more brain-based inspired learning activities among teacher-demonstrators, with less emphasis on creativity, thus a teaching exemplar was created as part of its modelling. Though, an INSET in the public schools enhanced opportunities to exhibit teaching attributes such as: vivacity, sense of humor, creativity, inquisitiveness, concentration, cautiousness, and dynamism in the achievement of the 21st century skills, however these attributes remained uniquely apparent in every individual teacher. Dreaming to acquire many of these attributes among individual teachers propelled their authentic experience and sincerity to integrate appropriate OBTL activities, which emphasized its four spiral elements, by which the learners would:own knowledge in discovering experiences (sarili), master skills in critical evaluation (husay), engage understating and reflection in dialogical abstraction (saysay), and achieve wonderment in active experimentation (ambag).

This is a case study research which described the performance of the three selected basic education students enrolled in a Special Reading class where the mode of assessing students’ learning used was portfolio assessment. The portfolio assessment designed to the selected students underscored collaboration between and among the students, peers, teacher and parents. Findings show that portfolio assessment helped improve the selected key informants’ Reading performance. The development of positive attitudes such as willingness to learn, sharing of ideas, cooperation and self-confidence among the selected students served as avenues for their growth and development. Their desire to learn more was highly observed among them and was documented in their interview transcripts. Further, self-reflection provided a bright horizon in the development of the selected key informants’ complex skills.

This descriptive-survey assessed the market feasibility of the establishment of an extension campus of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) in Balatan, Camarines Sur, Philippines. It determined the socio-economic profile of the households, demand for an extension campus, awareness of the existence of CSPC, and promotional activities. Random sampling was used for the respondents composed of 572 households and 722 high school students. The students set a high premium on education (99%), have the interest to enroll in college (91%), and enroll if given the opportunity to pursue college education (94%) and doubt as to whether their parents would enroll them in college (16.3%). Financial constraints (50.4%) are the possible reason if they will not enroll in college. Quality education (58%) is the foremost reason in choosing a school, and considers attending in an extension campus if one were located in Balatan (88%).There is a market potential for an extension campus in Balatan, Camarines Sur. Understanding the sexual behavior of young people is important in pursuing health development in our society. In the Philippines, current data shows that there is a drastic increase in sex related activities concerning our youths. According to past studies, strong familial relationship and parent-child connectedness decrease the likelihood of a child to engage in risky sex. Furthermore, families with strong communication and are open to sexual topics became closer, and more comfortable with each other. This quantitative, correlational study was designed to describe the level of parental communication in terms of sexual health issues and its relationship to the sexual behaviorsof male Filipino youths in Metro Manila. A total of 143 male respondents ages 18-25 from Metro Manila participated in the study through an online survey. Results suggest that that majority of the respondents reported low level of parental communication in terms of sexual health issues and a large number reported risky sexual behaviors. The results of this study suggested no significant relationship between the respondent‟s level of parental communication and their sexual behavior.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has been described as the uncontrolled prostate gland growth which leads to difficulty in urination. One of the treatment of BPH is saw palmetto lipid extracts which has been shown to inhibit prostate 5 α-reductase and some of its components (lauric acid, myristic acid and oleic acid) also inhibit the enzyme. Coffee was also rich in fatty acids namely linoleic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid. The aim of this research is to investigate whether coffee is effective in preventing testosterone-induced prostatic hyperplasia in rats using testosterone propionate and estradiol valerate. After and before the induction, the rats were tested for prostate specific antigen (PSA) . The condition of the prostate gland of the test animals were correlated with the results of the said test and in the histopathologic results. After 14 days of experimentation, animals in the test group significantly decreased their PSA levels as compared to the BPH group. The histomorphology showed that Coffea arabica bean oil inhibited testosterone propionate while estradiol valerate induced prostatic hyperplasia. These findings indicate that Coffee arabica bean oil effectively inhibited the development of BPH. With the proven safety of coffee oil, these findings strongly support the feasibility of using Coffea arabica bean oil therapeutically in treating BPH.

The mother’s personality is a build-up of demographic factors among which employment, marital status and educational level are prominent in shaping child’s abilities and aspirations. This study therefore, determines the influence of mothers’ employment, marital status and educational level on students’ academic achievement in Business studies. Ex-post facto survey design and stratified random sampling technique were adopted for the study.Structured Questionnaire (MEMSEL Scale, r= .76) and Business Studies Achievement Test (r=.80) with a section for demographic data were administered on a sample of Two Hundred and Fifty students from five (5) schools in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria. Multiple regressionstatisticswas used for data analysisat 0.05 level of significance.The findings revealed thatthere was a significant but negative relationship between mothers' marital status and academic achievement of student's (r=-.195; p <.05) and employment and educational level (r= -.228; p <.05). Moreover, no significant relationship existed between academic achievement of students’ and mothers' employment (r = -.007; p >.05); academic achievement and educational level (r = .091; p >.05); employment status and marital status (r = -.033; p > .05) and marital status and educational level (r = .079; p > .05). However there was a significant combined contribution on the independent variables on students' academic achievement in Business Studies (Adj. R=.037; F(3,237)=4.111;P <.05).Thus, it was recommended that parents should provide positive home environments for their children, while school operators should respond favourably and focus attention on the children’s needs.

This study provided an in depth interpretations of the Hubo ritual forSeñor Santo Niño de Cebu. To provide this, the following objectives are raised: trace the history and ritual of the Hubo, describe the meaning of Hubo in the perspective of the church, and extrapolate the significance and graces received of the Hubo by the devotees. The study utilized descriptive-qualitative research method in the form of grounded theory through convenience sampling through interviews of devotees by means of interview questions, and data mining. The Hubo has its roots long since the acquisition of the image of Santo Niño by Queen Humamay or Juana from the Spanish, and continued by the Augustinian priests-the ritual of bathing and undressing and redressing the image was done privately up until the 1990s when the practice was made public. For the church, the Huboritual signified parental care, obedience, humility, conversion, newness, and cleansing; for the devotees, the Hubo ritual, and the attending of such, showed devotion, spiritual quenching and sustenance, understanding; this ritual also allowed for the channelling of requests and prayers, and the invocation of protection and guidance from God, and tolerated for the realization of requests and prayers. Further, for the devotees, upon attendance of the Hubo mass graced them health, safety, guidance, and success, which were truly given realization by the Holy Child or Balaang Bata as most Cebuanos dubbed Him. The Hubo ritual rested its roots in the very beginning of the Christianization of the Philippines-from the first baptism and the acquisition of the image of Santo Niño by Queen Juana, and continued by the Augustinian priests in which the ritual was done privately until the 1990s. The ritual implied parental care, obedience, humility, conversion, newness, and cleansing; the attendance of such presaged devotion, thanksgiving, understanding, request and prayer.
