The purpose of this study is to collect the relevant data and to formulate the theoretical background of corporate crime from a Central-Eastern European perspective. One of the main goals of the study is to explore and elucidate the complex interrelationships between corporate crime and the Hungarian market economy’s functioning. The different approaches for defining white-collar and corporate crime are summarised. An overview of the theoretical background of such crime is given. The general economic situation in Hungary is discussed, along with various available data, in order to examine the extent of corporate crime in Hungary. A detailed guideline for the empirical study of these crimes is also presented.

The article describes the functioning of the National Centre for the Prevention of Antisocial Behaviour in Gostynin on the basis of interviews that the author conducted with patients there during three visits to the Centre as an employee of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights. It is a detention centre described as a medical facility where therapy is provided for people with mental disorders such as mental retardation, personality disorder, or sexual preferences disorder. The author describes examples of patients’ legal situations and the observance of their constitutional rights. It was organised in 2014 on the basis of legislation from 22 November 2013. That act states that the civil court shall decide whether a person who has served their entire criminal sentence a danger to society because of his/her disorders. The Constitutional Tribunal has stated in its judgements that the act, apart from one article, is consistent with the Polish Constitution. In practice, we can observe many legislative gaps or a need to change a binding law. The number of patients at Gostynin is increasing rapidly whilst the existing problems have not been solved by the legislature, who do not wish to consider the problems pointed out many times by the Commissioner for Human Rights.

The aim of this publication is to compare the views of people harmed by the crime of abuse when the perpetrator is ordered to leave the premises with the current legal norms. The research is complemented by opinions from experts (people who support victims of domestic violence professionally). The considerations lead to an attempt at answering the question of whether the legal shape of the order to leave the premises meets the justified needs of the victims.

This article compares the features of contemporary theft and its perpetrators with the characteristics of theft before the transformation in Poland. For this purpose, two studies on theft were compared – one from 2017 and one from 1979. This procedure made it possible to compare the objects of theft, the way it is perpetrated, the characteristics of its perpetrators, and the methods by which it is detected, as well as the punitive measures applied. The material gathered showed both differences and consistencies in the compared cases.

The subject of this article is the legal issues related to combating beggary and vagrancy in Poland during the interwar period. The author presents and compares the Russian, Prussian (and later German), and Austrian criminal rules which were in force in Poland in the 19th and early 20th centuries. She clarifies how the partitioning states ordered beggars and vagrants to be punished on Polish land. The author explains that many representatives of the Polish legal doctrine and legal practice expressed the view that these ‘dregs of society’ suffer from psychophysical degeneration. She analyses when and how the issue of begging and vagrancy came to be of interest to the legislature in the Second Polish Republic. The author assesses the anti-begging rules issued in interwar Poland as quite strict and repressive. She presents not only legal provisions and doctrinal views, but also statistical data from 1924–33.
