Created in 2003, Revista Encontros is a bi-annual publication of the Department of History of the Colégio Pedro II, which has twenty-three (23) editions in printed format. From the first edition of Year 13 (2015), this journal has been exclusively published in electronic editions in order to broaden the dissemination and to adapt to the criteria of demands for evaluation by Capes, which is responsible for assessing scientific publications in Brazil. The editorial team has expanded the journal’s activities and defined a new institutional and editorial set-up. They have also reaffirmed the journal’s identity based on the assertion and valorization of Basic Education (elementary and high school), underlining the interconnections between teaching and research.
Starting from the principle of teaching and research as foundations of the same epistemological field, Revista Encontros recognises the teaching of History as one of the axes of the process of historical knowledge production. In addition to that, this journal also contemplates the teaching practice as a specific knowledge which must be problematised and connected within the domains of History. In this sense, Revista Encontros attempts to rethink the paradigm which distanced teaching from researching in the basic education. A paradigm as such refuses the elaboration of readings of the past which are constructed in/by the teaching practices of basic education professionals. In spite of different procedures, objectives and results, teaching and researching belong to a theoretical-methodological and historiographical fields which must gather all professionals involved in the production and dissemination of historical knowledge.
The editorial team has been receiving original articles for publication which address the focus and scope of the journal.
Revista Encontros has the following sections policies: dossier, free subjects, experience reports, communications (presented in seminars, conferences or unpublished lectures, review, translation and interview (transcription and analysis).
