SGO is the official journal of the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists & Oncologists (IASGO). While SGO is a new journal, our organization (IASGO) has a tradition of international excellence for more than 3 decades. Our President and Honorary Editor, Prof. Masatoshi Makuuchi is considered a living legend in Surgery, having established new techniques for safe hepatic resection and living donor liver transplantation, among many other achievements.
The rest of the Editorial Board is also quite distinguished, including internationally recognized professors and chairmen who made important contributions to their fields. These editors also have a remarkable track record of scientific achievements, including for example changes in medical practice in oncology (Dr. Zhu, who pioneered the use of ramucirumab in liver cancers).
The scope of the SGO journal is to promote and facilitate at a global scale the interactions (communication and collaborations) between medical professionals specialized in these disciplines and basic scientists. SGO also aims to facilitate the exchanges of experience and results of research in oncology, gastroenterology and surgery among IASGO members, and to translate new approaches into the clinic through education and conducting biology – and mechanism-based clinical trials worldwide.
Currently, SGO is published in four issues per year, is an open access journal and, has a comprehensive but prompt peer-review process coordinated by a strong editorial team of experts from USA, Europe, Africa and Asia. The Editorial Board was carefully selected to represent not just recognized international experts in their respective fields, but also to cover all the geographic areas and multidisciplinary expertise required for our mission. To facilitate the editorial process, the submission and peer-review process are done online, through the journal’s website (www.sgo-iasgo.com). SGO accepts submissions for publication as Original Paper, Review Article, Editorial, Surgical Technique, Video Article, as well as Clinical Image articles.
