The objective of the study is to know the perceptions of graduates of the Masters Course in Nursing at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina with its contributions on formation as regards to professional work. That was a study of qualitative approach, using a questionnaire applied to the egresses of master degree program (last 5 years), totaling 88 informants. Analysis presented elements of the graduates lent in relation to the general evaluation of the course, as related to the same contributions for change at work and the medium evaluation of its objectives. The masters degree program shows a space and the valorization of construction and consolidation of an innovative knowledge that can faces challenges that might occur to a new configuration of making health daily. This study aimed to apprehend the dilemmas and conflicts revealed by women infected with HIV/Aids who got pregnant. This qualitative study involved eight women attended at an outpatient clinic in Fortaleza-CE. Through interviews, it was observed that the women go through their pregnancy with expectations about their child’s serological status; after birth, they live with uncertainties and overprotect the child. They report on inadequate ways of communicating the diagnosis and lack of advice about pregnancy in cases of HIV. These women transform the desire of motherhood into reality. According to them, dealing with a child with the possibility of catching HIV goes beyond their capacity. In conclusion, it is essential to offer emotional and social support to these women, independently of the phase in life they are in. Key words: HIV; Women’s health; HIV Seropositivity; Pregnancy.

The prenatal assistance is one of the health care pillars. This study aimed to conduct a critical evaluation of the SIS Prenatal in a city of São Paulo State, to compare its data with the local assistance and to verify the registry of pregnant women attended at Health Care Centers. It was analyzed the pregnant women records through consultation at Health Regional Unit and municipal health service. There were inconsistencies between the system and local registry. The failures were related to the inadequate filling of attendance files, besides scarce control of pregnant women files and scheduling on health centers. The results suggest the need for better planning of actions for the improvement of prenatal service quality. This study aims at systematizing with the participants of Culture Circles a proposal of reconstruction of actions of health education that show the necessary competences to the nurses of Family Health Program for a practice in education on critical and reflexive health. It is constituted of a research – action, where the researcher based in “Paulo Freire Method“ is encouraging debates in eight Culture Circles having the participation of ten nurses. The Circles give them the training of a political conscience , essential to the process of “ empowerment “ of the health professional in practicing his socio-politics competence. It aimed to learn the daily habits related to the physical activity practice among private state schools adolescents in Fortaleza-Brazil. We investigated 307 students between 12 and 17 years old from six private schools, in the months March to June 2007. We applied a form which recorded sedentarism, BMI, blood pressure and blood glucose. The chi-squared test was used for to analysis the proportions. About 68% of young people were sedentary. The sedentarism was higher in females surveyed (p=0, 000) and those with over-weight (p=0,001). Among adolescents active exercise was the most practiced football (42%) and weights (19%). The health education in schools can assist in combating the sedentarism of the adolescents. Key words: Motor activity, Life style, Adolescent health.

Qualitative study with characteristics of research and action. The purpose was to consider the nurse teacher in the perspective of the complex thought. From this purpose, in May of 2009, a commission responsible for developing discussions about methodologies of teaching and learning was constituted. A project with sequential stages of intervention was elaborated. About 380 nursing students and 30 nursing teachers from Centro Universitário Franciscano participated of the study. The thematic analysis of the information, obtained through meetings, made it possible to delimit the category: necessity of developing leadership and didactic abilities to higher education. The teaching in higher education does not constitute a process directed to the teacher. Rather than this, requires the active and effective involvement of the student, as author and protagonist of their history. Key words: Education, nursing; ds: Methodology; Nursing research.

This was a retrospective study, which aimed to describe the profile of nursing diagnoses of 31 patients starting hemodialysis treatment in a hemodialysis clinic in the South Zone of São Paulo. The survey was conducted from patients’ records. The data used included: patient identification, underlying disease, data from physical examination notes and multidisciplinary evaluations. The most prevalent nursing diagnoses included: ineffective renal tissue perfusion (100.0%), risk for infection (100.0%), innefective protection (80.6%) and ineffective management of therapeutic regimen (54.8%). It was concluded that the identification of the profile of nursing diagnoses of these patients is essential for the planning of nursing care after initiation of emodialysis. The study aimed at to analyze the tendency of the mortality perinatal in the municipal district of Belo Horizonte in the period from 1984 to 2005. The source of the data was the System of Information of Mortality. Took place simple lineal regression to esteem the tendency of reduction of the percentile of unknown information in the system and of the mortality taxes. The improvement of the quality of the information went significant just for the maternal education and weight when being born. The medium reduction of the mortality perinatal in the period was of 57,52%. The decrease of the mortality perinatal in the last two decades in Belo Horizonte it was significant, but efforts should be addressed in the sense of improving the complete of the System of Information of Mortality for important variables in the elaboration of the indicators perinatais. This paper aims to identify the demand and potential activities of the Liaison Nurse position in the Hospital de Clínicas of the Universidade Federal do Paraná. It is a descriptive research, based on a case study, and it was carried out in two stages, within August 2007 to May 2008. In the first stage, and through the use of forms, it was made a follow-up of hospital discharges. Then, it was selected a hospital admission unit in which a Liaison Nurse treated discharged patients, and ten of them were interviewed through the use of a semistructured questionnaire. Lastly, the interviews were categorized and the data obtained was submitted so as its content could be analyzed. The results demonstrated that the implementation of the Liaison Nurse position is an essential step in the integration of the HC/UFPR to the network and promote the medical care integrity. The present study aimed at providing a synthesis of clinical studies on pressure ulcer (UP). An integrative review was made by searching the database of MEDLINE, Portal de Evidências, and LILACS for articles, and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) periodical, a reference in clinical trials in Nursing, from 2004-2009. 14 articles were selected and their analysis made it possible to identify four areas of interest involving the characterization of the studies, the sample, the interventions used, as well as the results and conclusions obtained. We found that the studies reviewed have focused on prevention and that there are few studies of this kind in our country. It is important to recognize these limitations and try to overcome them in order to provide advancements and enhance the development of research based on strong clinical evidence to support the professional nursing practice. The present work reports the experiment on the creation and submission to North American Nursing Diagnosis Association International (NANDA-I) of Nursing Diagnosis in the imageology area: “Adverse Reaction to Iodinated Contrast Media” and “Risk of Adverse Reaction to Iodinated Contrast Media”. For this experiment the method of integrative revision of literature was utilized associated with the experience in clinical practice. The document for submission was elaborated according to guidance offered by NANDA-I and sent for appreciation to the Diagnosis Development Committee. The risk diagnose was approved and the real diagnose is still in evaluation process by the Diagnosis Development Committee. With this experiment we hope to motivate Brazilian nurses to contribute to the taxonomy of NANDA-I and participate in the building of nursing knowledge. This is a descriptive-exploratory study that aimed at analysing the program of uterine cervical neoplasm prevention in the city of Igarapava/SP. In the year of 2006, the municipal public service realized a preventive program with 14.9% of the feminine population from 25 to 59 years old, half of the minimum expected for the cities, whereas the predominant age of those colleted were of 20 to 34 years old (43.2%). A total of 6.3% did not show up at the public health centers in order to get the results. Regarding the results of the collecting, 51.6% (774) were within the limits of normality and 47.9% (719) presented some alteration, where 0.1% were compatible with CIN I and II. This descriptive-exploratory study aimed to investigate nurses’ attitudes towards the abilities to identify and to help alcoholic persons. Data were collected through an attitude scale in a sample of 171 nurses at a university hospital in São Paulo State. The results evidenced that the nurses feel skilled to help these patients achieve recovery, demonstrating positive attitudes; however, conflict was identified in attitudes towards the alcoholic patients’ desire, revealing the influence of the moral model to explain alcoholism. It is concluded that overcoming these conflicts in attitudes will only be possible when they are acknowledged by the nurses and when this problem receives greater attention during professional education. Fatigue is a human response in varied acute and chronic conditions and also in general population. This article reports a study conducted to estimate reliability and validity of the Dutch Fatigue Scale (DUFS) and the Dutch Exertion Fatigue Scale (DEFS) adapted for Brazilian use. Three-hundred heart failure patients and 64 healthier volunteers answered the DUFS and DEFS translated into Portuguese. Factorial analysis of DUFS and DEFS items yield a solution with one factor for each scale (explained variance = 53.9%), and good reliability estimates were obtained by the Chronbach’s alpha (DUFS=.85 e DEFS=.92). In the patient sample, scales scores were positively associated with heart failure functional class (DUFS and DEFS p=.00), depression scores (DUFS rs =.63; p=.00 and DEFS rs =.55;p=.00), and sleep disturbance (DUFS and DEFS p=.00). Brazilian versions of DUFS and DEFS presented psychometric properties similar to those of the original ones. This is a qualitative research whose objectives were to identify and compare the social representations of nursing care to patients with HIV seropositive to professionals of nursing. The scenario was a public university hospital in Rio de Janeiro and the subject 20 nursing assistants and 20 nurses. The data collection took place through semi-structured and used for its analysis software ALCESTE 4.7. Among the nursing assistants were characterized about the content of the daily nursing care provided to patients with HIV/AIDS, whereas the nurses have content back to their quality of life. Thus it was concluded that the social representation of nursing assistants is anchored in the practical elements of daily care, while nurses anchored in the knowledge reified. The objectives of this bibliographic study were to identify and to characterize nursing scientific productions of organ donation and transplantation since 1997 to 2007. The LILACS, MEDLINE, BDENF, PERIENF AND DEDALUS databases were searched using the following keywords: “nursing and transplantation” and “nursing and donation”, identifying 30 articles. The results had shown that the most of publications from the southeast region; the majority of approaching was qualitative; nurses were the main authors and the principal subjects were renal and hepatic transplantation. It was concluded that it is necessary more Brazilian nursing publications of organ donation and transplantation. The study aimed to identify the scientific productions about the International Classification for Nursing Practice - ICNP® and its national contribution, using integrative review as research for approaching of the investigation object. In total 111 scientific productions were identified in the period from 1994 to 2008, 45,5%, were Brazilian studies. The average world scientific production per year was 7.3, including Brazil with 3.3 annual productions in average. The predominance of quantitative correlation descriptive studies was verified. Clinical-individual model and researches related to ICNP use in States of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Paraíba, as well as the important contribution of the Brazilian Nursing Association with the project International Classification for Nursing Practice Collective Health. This systematic review aimed to explore the contributions of Brazilian nursing literature about the use of interviews as a data collection technique in research with children. Articles were searched in the Virtual Health Library, using Health Terminology, between 1998 and 2008. Thirteen articles were selected, whose analysis allowed for reflections on the type of study, investigated age range, ethical considerations, data collection techniques, among others. Data indicated that nurses have used interviews isolated or associated with other techniques. Studies need to present the data collection phase in further detail, so as to indicate ways to improve the interview technique with children in nursing research. This study aimed to show the needs to standardize nursing care related to hyperbaric oxygenation and regulate working conditions for nursing staff that works on this area. They approach the legislation at the Brazilian Society of Hyperbaric Medicine, on Brazilian Chapter of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, on Regulating Rules of the Ministry of Labor and on the Code of Ethics of Nursing Professionals, as instruments still insufficient to legalize the Hyperbaric Nurse, its procedures in hyperbaric conditions and pressurized environments. It allowed pondering on the disclosure of the state of art of hyperbaric nursing, as well as the incorporation of this activity in relation to the specialties on the COFEN Resolution 290/2004 and postgraduate courses in Nursing. The article offers a reflection of blood donation in an hemocenter of Santa Catarina, with a mechanic and organic solidarity approach. People live in a fast world, making social interaction difficult, contributing to the weakening of values and attitudes that could improve the quality of life. Considering the difficuties of everiday contemporary society, concerning Brazilian hemotherapy history on blood donation, there is a perception that attitudes and values, such as solidarity, have been modifying in subtle ways with a background of current events. It is an experience report developed next to nurses of a public hospital of Florianópolis-SC, about pain measurement of cancer patient in palliative cares. A total of six nurses had participated of six meeting distributed at three educative moments of this practical. The analysis of undertaken dialogue evidenced that, for the nurses, measurable and objective data are not only enough to measur pain. According to them, it is imperative consider biopsicosociais aspects, valuing integrally the pain that the patient relates. The concluding nurses detach that she has necessity to construct a pain measurement systematization to allow strengthens the importance of pain control to base the practical one, make possible the register of information and the continued education. The purpose was to analyse the managerial work of the nurse, to know nurses’ actions, to verify the importance towards the planning and to identify some factors that interfere in the management. A descriptive research was accomplished in 10 basic health units in Fortaleza, CE, Brazil, with 10 nurses. Data collection was carried aout in january 2008, by means of a structured interview. Most of the nurses were female between 37 and 57 years-old. For seven nurses the management of people and the planning are the most important aspects. Some difficulties about the incomplete composition of the teams, lack of professional ability and low financial resource were reported. The present article has as its objective to identify the concept of the registered nurses in relation to the contents in a website about the post-anesthetic recovery room. The descriptive field research was done during the 8th Brazilian Nursing Congress in Surgical Nursing, Anesthetic Recovery and the Central Supply, Sterilization and Material Preparation room with nurses involved in the teaching field and also nurses working in these areas. 95.65% of the nurses considered a website important in relation to the availability of information about SRPA and these nurses presented a large diversity about the subjects that should make up the contents of the website, however all aspects should be presented only when the information is secure and correct. It is important to know the opinion and expectations of the nurses in relation to a website that contains information about SRPA. Qualitative study held in an emergency hospital in Aracaju-SE, which aimed to know the perception of nurses about what is a motivated nursing team, to identify possible motivational policies used by them and if they are consistent with the policies proposed by Frederick Herzberg in his theory. Of the 20 nurses participants, the most understood the motivation as a set of techniques possible to shape the behavior of the individual at work, linking it to extrinsic factors and 60% did not consider his team motivated. This qualitative study aimed at learning the masculine conception of paternity and understanding the masculine strategies to cope the legal, social and affective pressures of this process. The collection of information was done through semi-structured interview with eight adolescents from Porto Alegre – RS, Brasil, ranging between 15 and 19 years old, who experienced paternity. The interpretation and analysis were based on the content analysis. From the analysis of these youngsters´ reports the following categories have emerged:Adolescents Relationship; Paternity and Gender; and, Meaning of Being a Father. The attentive look to paternity in adolescence brings to light the comprehension of issues regarding the masculine exclusion in objective life experiences marked by the commitment with paternity. This research aimed to analyze the curriculum of “paranaense” nursing graduation identifying if it has occurred the orientation development for Unique System of Health. It was proved that there is a proposal of formation that overcomes the hospital-centered model, focused in the preventive and collective aspects and demands of the work market. It was observed equivalent schedule distribution of biological disciplines and disciplines that approach biological sciences and collective health. It was noticed a reducing in the credit hours of the collective health which appeared lately; the curricular supervision traineeship appears as a moment that allows to narrow the learning knowledge with real situations of the professional life. A cross-sectional epidemiological descriptive study with the purpose of identify the demographic characteristics, health aspects and life style, vulnerability to Sexually Transmitted Diseases/AIDS amongst long distance truck drivers were applied to 50 drivers from supply center of Campinas (fruit, vegetable, product wholesale market). The outcomes showed that almost all drivers interviewed were men, the majority were married, had kids, low study level and fewer than 40 years old. 70% reported abuse psychoactive drugs. The majority was aware of the importance of using condoms with casual partners; 94% reported relationship with casual partners and just 6% never used condoms. Although the small sample analyzed, the results suggests that must be implemented health promotion actions and illness prevention public politics, including the development of customized educational interventions with in this professional group. In the thematic documental analysis developed in this study, the evidence of the meaning items corroborated the insert of the managerial competence in the dimensions: knowledge, abilities and attitudes. The study demonstrated that they are contemplated in the nurse formation the managerial competences in the researched course. It important to say that from the analysis of the data emerged the enrolled gaps as contribution of the study. The purpose of the article was to identify a problematic, challenges and strategies recommended in those texts and analysis the applicability of such recommendations reflected on papers published from 2005-2008. A thematic analysis was applied to the full texts available on LILACS data base. Results showed that the development of nursing research was articulated to the neoliberal and globalization economic system, the national health system, the healthcare demands of population, and nursing profession. The postgraduation expansion in Latin America was a result of the international efforts of the Brazilian post-graduation programs, and the increase number of nurse researchers as well as Center of Nursing Research. Because the scientific production is inserted on academic field, the research findings do not become healthcare policy yet. Nursing organizations and their partners need to continue making efforts to overcome old challenges and to build new meanings for nursing research. This article aimed at reflecting and discussing about some difficulties in the submission and evaluation of scientific projects to the Research Ethics Committee, from an experience in post-graduation. Among these difficulties, there was a need for submission of a single project to several CEP as demand for part of the health facilities involved, which showed discrepancies with regard to the matter. Another issue, involving the reports, which are still based on biomedical models, which hinder the evaluation of research projects in nursing and other sciences. However, one of the great challenges of CEP is to ensure that researches with human beings are carried out within an ethics framework, without be an obstacle to their development. This research aimed at knowing the history of ex-workers, leprosy patients admitted compulsorily from the early twentieth century in Brazil. Leprosy, fraught with prejudice and stigma in the early 20s was treated for decades with stringent policies of compulsory isolation of patients in hospitals colonies. Because of prejudice, there was difficulty in hiring staff to maintain these establishments. The stories of the individuals came from taped interviews with seven residents of the colony, by the method of oral history. The research results partially presented in this paper reported the life histories of individuals, their struggles, sorrows and dreams. The aim of the study was to identify the predictive factors and the signals of transient tachypnea of the newborn valued by the nurses who work at neonatal ward and rooming-in when they assess the newborn respiratory function during the immediate neonatal period in the first six hours after birth. A cross sectional study carried out at two public hospitals of São Paulo city. The sample consisted of 28 nurses who replied a structured questionnaire about the newborn respiratory function assessment practices. Data showed they valuated to know the evaluation of labor, delivery and Apgar score when they evaluate the newborn respiratory function. About the signals of respiratory distress they valued to evaluate the respiratory rate and auscultation, evaluation of the respiratory distress using the Silverman-Andersen Index besides, the neonatal nurses valued to evaluate de oxygen saturation. This is a qualitative study developed with the interdisciplinary health care teams of two public hospitals in Brazil. One team provides palliative care to cancer patients and the other provides care to the elderly. The study contributes to thinking about work relationships in the health care sector upon analyzing the contribution of these experiences for the constitution of new forms of health care work organization. The results reveal that the interdisciplinary perspective of performance in health care makes better work relationships possible among professionals and between professionals and patients/family, as well as approximates the professionals to the needs of the patient, beyond contributing to better quality care. We conclude that interdisciplinary practice approximates new forms of work organization and, upon favoring these links, reception, and access, contributes to the greater efficiency of the Brazilian National Health Care System. The National Conferences of Health approached the question of Human Resources with emphasis, making prescriptions of interests for the Nursing, a huge class among the professionals of health. Aiming to identify, describe and analyze what the final reports of the last five conferences mentioned about this subject, it was done a documental study by means of analyses of the dissertation contained in those texts. The categories found are: job conditions; education; upbringing and qualification; formation of multi-professional teams and humanization. It was concluded that the aspects broached being in a punctual way or being in a more complex definition were driven to the human resources as a whole, with little specification for the nursing in contrast to the significance of this grouping for SUS. Review study that aimed at analyzing the nursing scientific production about varicose ulcer in the period from 2002 to 2007. For the data collection it was used Medline and LILACS databases. Twenty-five materials were found in seven national and international journals. It was demonstrated that scientific production approach several issues and there is a need for studies on the humanistic issues. It was concluded that the care of varocose ulcers is expressed in some aspects in nursing research, but that the matter is still poorly researched and that there is little qualitative research that address this content. Experience report carried out at a university hospital involving a patient victimized by an accident with a spider of the Loxosceles gaucho genus. This type of accident can be classified as mild, moderate and severe, depending on the period of time elapsed between the occurrence of the accident and the moment of care provision. We aimed at applying nursing care systematization in a comprehensive and humanized manner. The following nursing diagnoses were established: acute pain, damaged skin integrity, risks for infection, constipation and low selfesteem. The therapeutic relationship favored student/patient interactions and enabled the recognition of the needs that deserved nursing interventions. The nursing process was a valuable instrument and provided important elements for the patient’s daily development and planning adjustment by prioritizing care quality. The transformations of stamp social, political and economical happened in the last decades they rebound significantly in all the sections of the society. And if it cannot leave of considering the influences of those transformations for the mental health of the population. It is a epidemic cohort study that aimed at accomplishing the risk for mental disease in the population assisted by the Unit of Health of the Family of the habitational group, neighborhood of Mangabeira, city of João Pessoa-PB, where Self Report Questionnaire-20 was used (SRQ-20). Association of the Risk was observed for Depression and Anxiety with the feminine sex (59,40%), among the age group from 40 to 65 years (66%), in the occupation of domestic services (65,5%). We are mischievous to recognize that the mental suffering has been growing relatively in the studied sample and starting from that verification it is done necessary an immediate attention to the problems of mental health in the community’s people. This study aimed at capturing the psychosocial feelings and perceptions health workers face after accidents with biological material, identifying the difficulties to accomplish the follow-up. This qualitative research with intentional sample of 15 health workers was carried out. The fear was the first expressed feeling. The fear the health worker feels is related to his/her attributions, potentiates the development of stressing situations in work setting and trigger psychic suffering. The feeling of anger and outbreak appear in the discourses face the workers’ indignity. Another feeling is guilty for triggering the accident. This finding allows recommending organizational restructuring proposals as well as in the behavior of workers in the dynamics of work. It is an exploratory-descriptive study that aimed to analyze the disability retirement of employees of the UFRN for mental and behavioral disorders in the period 2000-2005. The sample was obtained from records of the DAS / PRH / UFRN. Of 43 retirees, 58% were men, 41% retire between 41-50 years and 35% between 51-60 years, 44% occupied position / function for the high school level and 28% for the elementary level. The mood disorders lead to 61% of the retirements by mental alienation, followed by thought disorders (19%), organic mental disorders and personality disorder (4%). We found that they lived with intense psychological distress creating an indirect burden on their lives and on their family’s life facing lost opportunities of life and to the adjusted years of disability affecting their work. Qualitative study that aimed at understanding the social representation of a parent with a premature child. The data were collected between May and June 2008, in a semi-structured interview with 17 parents whose premature children were hospitalized in the NICU of two public institutions in Natal, Brazil. The reports were analyzed based on the Social Representations Theory (SRT). The results reveal that the hospitalization of their children causes parents to experience emotions of fear, anguish, anxiety, loneliness interspersed with those of faith, joy and hope. For a parent the NICU is a frightening environment, albeit necessary for the specialized care that the conditions of the premature newborn require. This paper presents a reflection on the ICNP® and CIPESC® construed as a technological innovation capable of sustaining the nursing knowledge. They may be considered as product and process innovations that, inserted on complex realities, must estimate values and local cultures. The CIPESC® strengthens the presence of phenomena from the nursing practice in the SUS and to survive with autonomy and sharing information, it should be combined with institutional information systems and the ICNP®, thus it will establish cultural values strong enough to be available and to interact with systems of language of the profession as well as with systems in use in the SUS context. This article is a reflection on the production of knowledge about the work process based on some questions: who talks, and from where, about the work in Nursing?In this context, it is highlighted the role of the post-graduation courses and of the ABEn in the production of knowledge in the work process. Concerning the role of the post-graduation courses, the research areas focused on this theme are identified and an analysis of that production based on studies performed by a research group (Práxis/UFSC) identified its strengths and its fragilities in two studies about the group’s production showed in doctorate thesis and masters dissertations. The categories approached were: the organization of work and the worker’s health and the gaps identified were related to studies on the objects and the products of the work process, the evaluation of the quality of assistance, the needs of the care subjects, the aim of the work and the praxis itself in the social-historical scenario. Readers are invited to reflect on which nursing profiles are supported and targeted to the multiple Brazils. It is a literature review held by means of abstract consultation in the theses and dissertations data base of the Coordination of Specialization for the Superior Level Staff (CAPES – in Portuguese), from 1997 to 2006, using the words: professional’s health and nursing. 172 abstracts were identified. Most used key words were: nursing job and work (14.3%), occupational hazards (10%) and work accidents (10%). Only 119 out of 172 productions referred to the nature of the study, 52.9% have a quantitative approach in many research studies, ultimately descriptive or exploratory studies or both. Future outlook in this production field may be the issue of changing the study typology, putting aside descriptive and exploratory qualitative or quantitative studies in order to search scientific evidences and modern investigative methodologies besides the implementation of intervention proposals as well as the appreciation of nurses’ educational function. Retrospective study that aimed at describing the clinic and socio- demographical characteristics of 141 individuals which were interned in Teaching Hospital of Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro, Uberaba, MG, Brazil, who were submitted to amputations related to diabetes and compare the number of amputations considering the variables sex, age, co-morbidity, the type of treatment and then associated the number of amputations with the duration of internments and diagnosis. Data were collected from patient health records, totalizing 208 amputations. Major percentage of masculine individuals (58,9%), and a major occurrence of amputation among the elderly (70.2%); the cause: diabetic foot (35.7%); the most of patients (75.0%) went through internment at least twice; most frequent co-morbidity: arterial hypertension (74.0%); median in the number of amputations was two.
