Quality of work life is a philosophy, a set of principles, which holds that people are the most important resource in the organization as they are trust worthy, responsible and capable of making valuable contribution they should be treated with dignity and respect. The exploratory factor analysis shows that work environment, salary, personal growth and job security are the factors affecting quality of work life of workers in construction industry. The regression analysis indicates that salary, work environment, job security and personal growth are having positive impact on job satisfaction of workers in construction industry. In order to improve the quality of work life of workers in construction industry, it is important to identify and then try to satisfy worker’s important needs through their experience in their working environment. The construction industry must ensure that workers are getting sufficient salary and other benefits should be paid based on the performance of the workers and it will motivate them to perform well.

As per the 2001 Census results (Provisional), 285 million out of 1027 million persons lived in urban areas. In other words, slightly more than one-fourth of India's total population was enumerated in urban areas. When compared with the urban population projections made by the Experts Committee on Population Projections appointed by the Planning Commission (1987), enumerated urban population and level of urbanisation are on the lower side. This slackening of urbanisation process noticed during the last decade has posed some serious questions to the scholars studying this phenomenon. It has been contended that this could be due to a decline in natural growth rate and rate of immigration. The paper gives a brief account of historical perspective of Indian urbanization and its trends in contemporary scenario. It analyses various components of urbanization and the favourable as well as unfavourable consequences. The paper tries to analyze and infer the relationship of urbanisation with various economic variables like per capita income, rate of employment and Percentage of Population below Poverty Line and understand its impact upon those variables. It also analyzes and makes inferences on the relationship between urbanisation and human development index and understands its implications. Finally, the paper draws conclusions on sustainable urban systems. Effect of urbanisation with each variable has been weighed and findings are drawn. The methodology adopted for this paper is review of literature.

Marketing is an applied discipline (Brown, 1996) and pedagogy can be considered as a set of theories, principles and practices used to teaching any area of study. In case of determination of pedagogy for teaching ‘Marketing Management’, stakeholders’ convictions (students, teachers, industry professional) play important role. The results indicated that the MBA students, MBA teaching faculties and industry professionals having different convictions about how Marketing Management taught more effectively with aligning the skills required by the profession. The study has found comparatively high dispersion between the convictions of teachers and students, low dispersion between teacher and industry professionals and explicitly high dispersion between students and industry professionals towards pedagogical consideration for teaching marketing management.

The results show that the students have agreed with the intentions that they are ready to do anything to be an entrepreneur, their professional goal is to become an entrepreneur, they will make every effort to start and run their own firm, they are determined to establish a firm in the future and they have the firm intention to start a firm someday. The results reveal that there is a significant association between age and entrepreneurial intentions in tune with monthly family income and entrepreneurial intentions of the students. The results show that personal attitude, desirability, feasibility and personal motivation are positively and significantly influencing the entrepreneurial intentions of the students at one per cent level. Of those who have intention to start a business, majority of them take some steps to realize their dream of business ownership. The findings demonstrate the potential value of attitudinal measures for predicting who will want to start a business. The results suggest that further development of this approach may be fruitful for understanding the intentions to become self-employed.

This study investigates the extent and effects of employee turnover on parastatal organisations in Botswana between 2010 and 2012. Using in depth face to face structured interviews, the study finds that employee turnover is low among parastatal organisations in Botswana. The study further revealed that employee turnover does have some positive and negative effects on parastatal organizations. The results also indicate that parastatal organisations have devised a raft of measures which are geared towards preventing and controlling high employer turnover. The findings of this study have implications on strategies used by parastatal organisations to combat employee turnover. The findings could also help to develop a framework for effective and efficient strategies in combating employee turnover not only in parastatal organisations but also in private and public listed corporations.

Banks in India play a crucial role in the financial sector of the country. They raise deposits from the public, offer loans and advances to industry and commercial establishments, responsible for the flow of credit, offer priority sector loans, take care of the working capital requirements of the medium and small enterprises, provide housing and educational loans and offer a host of other financial services. Hitherto they were enjoying a monopoly or near monopoly situations and were operating in a sellers’ market, thanks to the government patronage. But, with the liberalization of the economy and entry of new large scale private sector banks, and the foreign banks establishing branches in India, the entire scenario has perceptibly changed. Suddenly, they have been forced to function in the buyers’ market. The customers started demanding good quality of service from the banks. The introduction of information technology worldwide has further forced these banks to adapt themselves to the needs of the customers. Bank oriented service got changed into customer oriented service. Objectives of the study are set, hypotheses have been framed and tested. Meaningful findings and conclusions are arrived at. Suggestions to further improve internet banking have also been offered. Thus, it is hoped that the study will contribute significantly to the existing knowledge in the field.

This article discusses the various marketing strategies and promotional forces of McDonalds. McDonalds uses several different means to help them in achieving revenue and increasing a positive customer engagement toward their products. Three main sources of doing so are franchise revenues, the property returns that they receive from renting or sublease to franchises and retail sales. In spite of the difficulties and extraordinary rivalry in the business sector, the McDonalds holds a solid position with the assistance of its effective marketing strategies. Customer perception of the taste of their burgers may outweigh that of Burger King.

The present study was conducted to assess the quality teaching in Indian higher education. The present paper based on Curriculum design and improvement; course and methodology development; promotion of social values; professional skills; knowledge and use of advance technology. To access quality teaching in Indian higher education, the data was collected for the study from the graduate and post-graduate students of various colleges and institution of Agra. The questionnaire includes general and specific questions related to quality teaching in higher education. The total number of students who responded the questionnaire was 243, out of which 137 from graduation and 106 from post-graduation. The concepts of quality might be different from institution to institution, while sharing the experience, new views, and idea come out which they can include in their norms and strategy to achieve the target of superior quality in education.

Jasmine is an attractive important commercial crop. It has got importance in all religious, social and cultural ceremonies and other functions performed by all people. The exploratory factor analysis reveals that price, lack of infrastructure, fraudulent practices and lack of export promotions are the factors affecting the marketing of jasmine. The results show that there is no significant difference between socio-economic status of jasmine growers and factors affecting marketing of jasmine. The regression analysis indicates that price is positively and significantly influences satisfaction of jasmine growers about marketing of jasmine, while, lack of infrastructure, fraudulent practices and lack of export promotions are negatively and significantly influence satisfaction of jasmine growers about the marketing of jasmine. In order to improve the jasmine marketing, the Government should formulate and implement appropriate marketing and pricing policies. The Government should create adequate storage facilities for jasmine and should take strong actions against malpractices in the marketing of jasmine. The Government and Export Promotion Council should disseminate and communicate market information and export opportunities to the jasmine growers.

The consumers now-a-days are quite aware of the distinguishing characteristics among the different brands of a particular product. It is amazingly revealed that Indian toothpaste industries are being segmented not only on the basis of prices and benefits, but also it is characterized by heterogeneity in consumers’ response to the marketing mix into more homogeneous submarkets. The results show that majority of consumers prefer Colgate brand of tooth paste and quality is the major reason for choosing tooth paste for most of consumers and majority of consumers are more affordable to purchase Colgate brand. The results indicate that there is a significant association between age group of consumers and their brand preference towards tooth paste and there is a significant association between different age group of consumers and reasons for choosing tooth paste. Meanwhile, the results show that there is no significant association between age group of consumers and more affordability of consumers for tooth paste. Besides, the companies analyze all these reasons and find out the best suitable tools for promoting their toothpastes. Toothpaste advertisers should lay emphasis not only on establishing a stronger brand preference, but also on persuading the millions to become users of the product for the first time to make advertising economically and socially justified.

With the changes in the business world along with changes in the personal life, family type, education level giving rise to higher expectations from oneself; individual roles are also changing giving birth to higher levels of stress. In the past few decades employees have become more vulnerable to diseases caused by stress at workplace. There were times when an employee used to have fixed schedules of work along with fixed roles in organisation. But now changing roles and long work hours are common in every work place may it be academics or any bank. There is a general thought that education industry is not very stressful while when it comes to banking jobs the general perception is that it is very challenging as well as stressful. This study has been designed to check if there is statistically significant difference between the stress levels of academicians and bank employees of Rajkot City. A sample of 50 units from each stratum has been taken for research. Mean scores have been checked for the differences. The analysis shows that there is not any significant difference between the levels of stress of the two categories of employees.

In today’s VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex & Ambiguous) world, Managers have to work smarter and harder to achieve results. While the world is shrinking due to technological improvements in all fields, the complexities of the world seem to be increasing many-fold too. As a result, in spite of the recent focus on work life balance & all round wellness, Managers are finding it extremely tough to continue to excel in their chosen fields. Things tend to get increasingly tougher for ageing Managers (> 40 years age) for a variety of reasons. Of late it seems that more and more Managers across various industry sectors and functions are choosing to opt out of their current careers & try their hand at completely new careers. Typically such Managers change their careers post reaching their 40s after having 18+ years of work experience. Many of them are at the peak or near the peak of their careers. This “Self-Renewal” decision is an eventful decision in a person’s career requiring a strong desire to change, significant amount of preparation, detailed planning and effective management of change. It also involves a significant amount of uncertainty & is definitely fraught with risk. This study is based on 60 interviews from respondents who have undergone similar mid-life career changes. The study carries out different types of analyses & focuses on finding out the drivers for such decisions. It also tries to explore emerging trends in this phenomenon of “Self-Renewal” & looks for patterns to successful “Self-Renewals”. It is observed that there are multiple reasons for mid-life career changes. “Self-Renewal & spiritual reasons” and “Desire to do something new & creative” were the top two reasons for mid-life career changes. Majority of respondents took 2-3 years for settling down in their new careers. Having a firm action plan and executing it well seem to be the two keys to successful mid-life career changes as observed from this study. The study also confirms that there is dearth of adequate assistance, support, guidance at present within and outside the existing organizations where such career changes occurred.

The study aims to analyze the relation between organizational commitment to work motivation and job satisfaction of employee of regional development planning agency or BAPPEDA, the government of Makassar City. It applies human resource management and organizational behavior approaches. It takes descriptive and verification methods. Data collecting technique through questionnaire supplied with observation is processed by analysis of multiple linear regression, coefficient of multiple correlation and coefficient of determination. The findings depict relationship between variables of motivation and job satisfaction to organizational commitment. Partially, relation between work motivation and organizational commitment is 0.791 and relation between job satisfaction and organizational commitment is 0.713. Simultaneously, variables of work motivation and job satisfaction are collectively having strong relationship by 0.741 to organizational commitment. Based on the analysis of coefficient of multiple correlation, it is found that the influence of work motivation and job satisfaction on organizational commitment is 18.1% and 37.1% respectively. Also, collective influence of work motivation and job satisfaction on organizational commitment are 55% and 45%, while the remaining percentage is affected by other variables.

The objective of this paper is to study the efficiency of Indian stock markets during the period 2001-2011. The weak form of efficient markets is extensively tested using NIFTY and 6 major NSE sectoral indices Pharma, IT, MNC, Bank, FMCG and Nifty Junior. Univariate time series analysis of indices returns is carried using tests for randomness / non-stationarity – runs test, unit root testing. ACF, correlograms and other relevant statistical methods. The study concludes that Indian markets are inefficient in its weak form for the study period.

Online shopping is a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly purchase products or services from seller over the internet using web browser. Growing numbers of consumers shop online to purchase goods and services, gather product information or even browse for enjoyment. Online shopping environments are therefore playing an increasing role in the overall relationship between marketers and their consumers. The exploratory factor analysis shows that convenience, website features, security and time saving are the factors affecting online shopping behavior of consumers. The regression analysis indicates that convenience, security, website features and time saving are positively and significantly influencing the purchasing decision of consumers at one per cent level. Online retailers need to ensure that the online shopping process in their websites is designed to be as easy, simple and convenient as possible for online consumers to shop online. In addition, online retailers also need to ensure that they provide an efficient delivery service to their consumers.

MOOCs are Massive Open Online Courses. Purpose: The purpose to conduct this study is to found out the main objective to invest in mutual fund schemes by retail investors and types of mutual fund schemes in which they like to invest. Design/ Methodology: For the purpose of the study, sample of 100 mutual fund investors belonging to FARIDABAD city and Delhi city has been taken. Fifty respondents are from each city. Data has been collected from both primary and secondary sources by questionnaire filled by 100 mutual fund investors and from various journal, books and Newspapers etc. respectively. Various statistical techniques have been used for analyzing the data such as frequency, mean and f-test. Findings: On basis of analysis of data it can be concluded that investors invest in mutual fund scheme for good return, safety and tax benefits. To achieve these objectives they select growth schemes and balanced schemes. Originality/Value: The detailed discussion about the mutual fund selection behavior of retail investor is an original contribution of this paper.
