Peucedanum grande has been found to be associated with the several therapeutic properties. In the current study, we have used P. grande as an ameliorating agent against nephrotoxic effects of Potassium dichromate. Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) is a soluble hexavalent chromium compound that is extensively used in several industries. The rats were given pretreatment of P. grande orally at a dose of (60 and 120 mg/kg body weight) for five consecutive days 10 mg/kg b.wt was used as renal toxicant, and injected subcutaneously in the neck region in a volume of 1 ml/kg. The modulatory effects of P. grande on Potassium dichromate induced nephrotoxicity was investigated by assaying oxidative stress biomarkers, lipid peroxidation, serum kidney toxicity markers and by histopathological examination of kidney. P. grande pretreatment prevented deteriorative effects induced by Potassium dichromate through a protective mechanism that involved reduction of increased oxidative stress as well as by restoration of histopathological change against Potassium dichromate administration.

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. It is the most serious disease on which extensive research is being done all over the world. Structure based drug designing offers a computational approach to identify the potential leads which can be developed into a drug. The In-Silico study of the current work aimed at inhibiting the three major targets of cancer by a natural compound Andrographolide from Andrographis paniculata. This exhibited a minimal energy against the targets hence suggesting the stability of the compound. Comparison studies of the compound with the already available anti-cancer drugs and enzyme inhibitors, stated that andrographolide is efficient to act on the targets by exhibiting promising interactions and good scores. This was also found to obey the Lipinski’s Rule of 5 and computed ADMET properties showed the drug likeliness and improved bioavailability. Since it is from a natural source the compound is non toxic and has reduced side effects.

Musa paradisiaca cv. Puttabale (AB group) is an indigenous banana cultivar commonly cultivated in the Malnad region of Karnataka, India. Helminthes infections are acute and chronic illness in human beings and cattle. About 3 million people are infected with helminthes worldwide. Traditionally, the plant M. paradisiaca cv. Puttabale was used to expel parasitic worms. In order to justify the ethanomedicinal claim with scientific report, sincere attempts have been made to investigate the Anthelmintic activity from corm ethanol extracts of M. paradisiaca cv. Puttabale using Pheretima posthuma as an experimental model. Three concentrations of 25, 50 and 100 mg/ml of corm ethanol extract were used to study their effect in time of paralysis and death of worm. The results suggest that the ethanol extract at the concentration of 100 mg/ml showed significant effect in time of paralysis at 42.33±1.45 min and death time was 54.00±0.58 min than control group in time of paralysis (142.67±1.45 min) and death (168.00±1.53 min). Standard drug piperazine citrate showed paralysis on 39.67±0.88 min and death at 59.00±0.58 min. The corm ethanol extract confirmed antihelmintic activity in dose depend manure and efficient, than standard drug piperazine citrate. This investigation revealed that the antihelmintic property of ethanol extracts of Musa paradisiaca cv. Puttabale against Pheretima posthuma to support its medicinal claims.

To date, no suitable vaccine or specific antiviral drug is available to treat Chikungunya viral (CHIKV) fever. Hence, it is essential to identify drug candidates that could potentially impede CHIKV infection. The present study focused with the development of Designing Possible Docking and Molecular Ligand Interactions with RdRp from CHIK-V protein based on the crystal structure. When, Rifapentine was interact with RdRp viral protein which were clearly showed the significantly excellent glide score of -5.690530 (Kcal/mol) as well as poor glide score of 2.874727 (Kcal/mol). The docking results showed that among the four ligand molecules Efavirenz have the lowest binding values among the other ligands because it has residue contact with total of 13 residues. Two of them were Glut-31, Glut-46, which are catalytic site residues. It is expected that this ligand could prevented the catalytic process. Rimantadine peptide has hydrogen bond interaction with five other residues and them binded with GLU-28, ASP-38 and ILE-45. Based on docking result visualization, it is known that Rifapentine and Rifampin peptide ligand was bound with RdRp enzyme inside the cavity also viral RNA entry when it covets to begin initiation and elongation process. From this study clearly revealed, the ligands such as Rifapentine, Rifampin and Rimantadine may inhibit the RNA dependent RNA polymerase protein activity in chikungunya virus. Furthermore, the backbone structural scaffolds of these four lead compounds could serve as building blocks when designing drug-like molecules for the treatment of Chikungunya viral fever.

In the present study, a series of Indole containing the oxadiazole and thiazolidinones side chain at 3- position, is discussed. The synthesized Indole derivatives 4 (a-e), 5 (a-e) were evaluated for cardiovascular activities. Compound 3-[5’-(3”-indolomethylene)-1’,3’,4’-oxadiazol-2’-yl]-2-(p-methoxy phenyl)-4-thiazolidinone 5b, was found to be the most potent compound of the present study which showed cardiovascular activity of varying degree at dose 2.5 mg/Kg. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by IR, 1H NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effective concentration of ethanol extract of Feronia elephantum leaf and bark on male reproductive system of albino rats. The study was divided into four groups of five animals each. The first group (I) received distilled water for a period of 14 days, served as control. The groups II, III and IV of animals were administered the ethanol leaf extract daily at 400mg/kg body weight, bark extract daily at 400 mg/kg body weight and 1:1 ratio of leaf (200mg/kg b.wt) and bark (200mg/kg b.wt) extract of Feronia elephantum respectively for a period of 14days. Significant decreases in the weight of testis (p<0.05), epididymis (p<0.01) and seminal vesicle (p<0.05) were observed. The results of the hormonal assay showed that, increased serum levels of FSH and estrogen but decreases in the serum levels of LH and testosterone compared to control. The results showed that, Feronia elephantum has effects on male rat reproduction, affecting the sexual behavior and epididymal sperm concentration.

The plant, Leucas aspera (Willd) Link is well known for its varied medicinal uses. Present study deals with its micro chemical (elemental) characterization using Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDAX) detector fitted to Scanning Electron Microscope. The plant has very interesting morphology. Crystals of varied shape and inclusions/exudates were noticed within and on the leaf & stem surfaces. Various plant parts analysed were, stem surface, stem sections, stem inclusions, blebs on stem hairs, crystals of varied shape, root sections, abaxial and adaxial surfaces, flower, seed and seed caruncle. Lot of variation in elemental composition was observed in various plant parts. Major elements detected were Carbon, Oxygen, Calcium, Silica, and Aluminum. Other elements found were Iron, Sodium, potassium, Phosphorus and Chlorine.

The present study was aimed to investigate the preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaves of Ziziphus oenoplia belonging to family Rhamnaceae. The dried leaves of the plant were subjected to successive Soxhlet extraction by continuous hot percolation method using organic solvents of increasing polarity such as petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and ethanol. The aqueous extract was prepared by cold maceration technique. All the extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening and it showed the presence of active constituents such as alkaloid, flavonoid, phenol and triterpenoid. Quantitative determination of alkaloid was done by Harborne (1973) method, whereas total Phenolic content was determined by Folin-ciocalteu method and total Flavonoid were determined by the aluminium chloride colorimetric method. Heavy metals and inorganic elements are determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry technique. The results obtained shows that the extracts contain medicinally important bioactive constituents and also heavy metals present in the plant extracts were within the permissible limits. This justifies its use in the traditional medicine for the treatment of different diseases such as ulcer, asthma, dysentery and fever.

Fosinopril is an antihypertensive, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. This is used in the treatment of various cardiovascular disorders such as heart failure, to reduce proteinuria and renal disease in patients with nephropathies, and to prevent stroke, myocardial infarction, and cardiac death in high-risk patients and hypertension. In present research work an attempt has been made to prepare fast dissolving tablets of Fosinopril with increased rate of dissolution may leads to increase bioavailability. The fast dissolving tablets of Fosinopril were prepared by using sublimation method. Croscarmellose sodium is used as a superdisintegrant. Camphor, Urea and Menthol are used as a sublimating agent. The prepared tablets were evaluated for various parameters like weight variation, hardness, friability, disintegration time, drug content, water absorption ratio, wetting time, in-vitro drug release, FTIR, DSC studies and short term stability studies. IR spectral analysis and DSC study showed that there was no drug interaction with formulation additives of the tablet. The blend was examined for the pre-compressional parameters. The prepared tablets formulations were evaluated for post-compressional parameters. The values of pre-compression parameters evaluated were within prescribed limits and indicated good free flowing property. All the post-compressional parameter are evaluated were prescribed limits and results were within IP acceptable limits. The disintegration time of 17 to 52 sec, water absorption ratio of 50.75 to 84.41%, wetting time of 23.41 to 36.61sec. In-vitro dissolution studies on the promising formulations SF3, SF6 and SF9 formulations were carried out in 6.8 phosphate buffer solution. This data reveals that overall, the formulation SF3, SF6 and SF9 shows nearly faster drug release. The formulations SF3, SF6 and SF9 50 % of drug released in 0.67 min, 0.73min, and 0.69 min, respectively, and 90 % of drug released in 2.93 min, 4.88 min, and 3.83 min, respectively when compared to other tablet formulation. Among all the formulation SF3 were found to be promising and showed a disintegration time of 17 sec, 50 % of drug released in 0.67 min, and 90 % of drug released in 2.93 min. The stability study conducted as per the ICH guidelines and the formulations were found to be stable. The results concluded that fast dissolving tablets Fosinopril showing enhanced dissolution, will lead to improved bioavailability, improved effectiveness and hence better patient compliance.

Two simple, economical, precise and accurate methods are described for the simultaneous determination of Metoprolol Succinate (METO) and Amlodipine (AMLO) in combined tablet dosage form. The first method (Method A) is Absorption Corrected Method and second method (Method B) is Isoabsorptive Point Method. The absorbances at 277.017 nm and 235.62 nm in the Absorption Corrected Method and Isoabsorptive Point Method were selected to determine METO and AMLO, respectively in combined formulation. The methods were validated by following the analytical performance parameters suggested by the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH). All validation parameters were within the acceptable range. Under experimental conditions described, calibration curve, assay of tablets and recovery studies were performed. A critical evaluation of proposed methods were performed by statistical analysis of data where slope, intercept, correlation coefficient is shown in Table (1). As per the ICH guidelines, the method validation parameters checked. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range of 50-250μg/ml and 5-25μg/ml for Metoprolol succinate and Amlodipine by both the methods.

The present investigation was carried out to study the hypoglycemic effects of the hydro-alcoholic (70:30) extract of Calycopteris floribunda, in normal and streptozotocin induced diabetic model. Calycopteris floribunda, are reported to have medicinal and traditional values including hypoglycemic properties. Decreased blood glucose level of the test animals shows that the extract exhibit significant hypoglycemic activity when compared to diabetic control group, effect of various doses (100, 200 mg/kg, p.o) extract was studied on streptozotocin induced both diabetic and non diabetic rats. The results also indicated the dose dependent effect. The hypoglycemic activity produced by the extract may be due to increased uptake of glucose at the tissue level or by an increase in pancreatic beta cell function or due to inhibition of intestinal absorption of glucose. The present study supports the use of this herbal drug as hypoglycemic. The reduction in the glucose level in induced diabetic rats proved that Calycopteris floribunda having the hypoglycemic activity.

Inclusion complexes of 2-[Arylidenamino]-1, 3, 4-thiadiazino [6, 5b] indoles have been prepared with β-Cyclodextrin for increasing solubility in polar medium. The formation of inclusion complexes has been confirmed from the study of changes in physical and spectral properties of the compounds. The determination of thermodynamic stability constant and other thermodynamic properties indicates that the inclusion complexes are comparatively stable and their formation is thermodynamically allowed. Finally, the compounds and their inclusion complexes are screened for antioxidant activities and it is found that the inclusion complex formation increases the antioxidant activities significantly.

In the present work an easy access to a series of pyrimidines bearing a pyronyl side chain in the 4-position is described. These unreported compounds are obtained starting from commercially available dehydroacetic acid (DHA), aromatic aldehydes and S-benzylisothiouronium chloride (SBT). A series of compounds (3a-j) were prepared and tested for their antimicrobial activity. These synthesized compounds showed mild activity against gram +ve bacteria and very less activity against gram -ve bacteria. Compounds 3b, 3i, 3j showed mild activity against gram +ve Bacillus subtilis bacteria while against gram -ve Pseudomonas aeruginosa compound 3i showed minor activity.

Antimicrobial is an agent that kills or inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoan, as well as destroying viruses. Antibacterial drugs either kill bacteria (bactericidal) or prevent the growth of bacteria (bacteriostatic). The scope of this study was to extract the active constituents present in the plant Imperata cylindrica by cold maceration method and to find the folklore claim of antibacterial action. The antibacterial activity was performed under sterile condition by using cup and plate method. Three extracts were prepared for this study such as ether extract, ethanolic extract and aqueous extract. The extractions were diluted as 200 mg/2 ml ratio. Each 200 mg of aqueous extract and ethanol extract was diluted with 2 ml of distilled water respectively; whereas the ether extract was suspended with tween 80, a suspending agent. The antibacterial test was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli. The test was done in triplicate with sterile Petri plates (10×10 cm) in Muller Hinton agar media. 0.5 ml of diluted culture was poured on each Petri plates and a well of 8 mm diameter approximately was cut with sterile metallic borer in the inoculated agar plate. The wells were filled with previously diluted three different extracts separately. The plates were labeled and incubated for 24 hours at 37°C. At the end of incubation period, the zone of inhibition (diameter) was measured and results showed that aqueous extract had very potent antibacterial activity comparatively with other extracts.

A simple, reliable, rapid, precise, sensitive and validated RP-HPLC method has been developed to determine Aspirin and Prasugrel in synthetic mixture form. Chromatographic separation achieved isocratically on Luna C18 column (5µm, 150mm × 4.60mm) and acetonitrile: 0.05M ammonium acetate buffer (pH 4.5) in the ratio of 75:25 (v/v) as the mobile phase, at a flow rate of 0.6 ml/min. Detection was carried out at 245 nm. Parameters such as linearity, precision, accuracy, recovery, specificity and ruggedness are studied as reported in the ICH guidelines. The retention times for Aspirin and Prasugrel was found to be 2.25±0.5 and 8.72±0.5 min respectively. Linearity for Aspirin and Prasugrel was in the range of 75-375μg/ml and 10-50μg/ml respectively. The mean recoveries obtained for Aspirin and Prasugrel were 99.58 and 99.48 % respectively and RSD was less than 2. The correlation coefficients for all components are close to 1. Developed method was found to be accurate, precise, selective and rapid for simultaneous estimation of Aspirin and Prasugrel.

As Tulsi has health benefitting effects by reducing stress and improving both cellular and humoral immunity, its role in prevention and treatment of cancer cases may be a new approach in therapy of cancer and in prevention of ill effects of radiation. Studies in biological models like fibrosarcoma cell culture, papilomas in the skin of albino mice, mice having sarcoma - 180 solid tumors etc. provide proof for its anticancer activity. As it has been shown that Tulsi exhibit anticancer activity in animal models, studies were carried out in human cancer in vivo like human cell fibrosarcoma and in vitro in human cervical cancer cell line (HeLa) and human laryngeal epithelial carcinoma cell line (HEp-2) and it was found effective. Thus, this review is a concise version of Tulsi’s anti-cancer effect. The aim is to stimulate research in this field, prevent and treat human carcinoma by initiating detailed studies in this field. It will be a novel agent, safe and effective for humans suffering with cancer in general and as a specific agent. The research work which is going on this direction is a proof of benefits by reducing toxicity of chemo and radio therapies and providing better and healthier life style by Tulsi. Therefore, it was worthwhile to review its anticancer properties to give an overview of its status to scientist both modern and ancient (Ayurvedic).

The present study deals with Pharmacophore based analog generation of Epicatechin derivatives against the PKC-alpha receptor for treating colon cancer. The chemical features of Epicatechin were analyzed by catalyst - Hiphop algorithm and its derivatives were generated based on Epicatechin Pharmacophore using Minimaybridge commercial database. Two different Epicatechin Pharmacophore analogs were acquired by virtual screening and docked against the PKC-alpha for screening the protein binding affinity. The Pharmacophore result gives HTS01501 possess -3.514 Kcal /mol highest dock score as like as Epicatechin.

Nephrolithiasis is one of the most commonly occurring disorders in India. Although this disorder is seen in any age group, young and middles aged individuals are the most common sufferers. The treatment of nephrolithiasis is mostly diuretics or surgical procedure. However, commonest complaint of patients where the stones have been removed surgically is recurrence. Therefore a need was felt to evaluate the efficacy of Renomet, a poly herbal product in the treatment of nephrolithiasis. Seventy four patients between 35-60 years of age and fulfilling inclusion criteria were included in the trial. All the patients had multiple stones up to 9 mm in size and had past history of renal stones surgically removed. They were divided in to two groups after obtaining the informed consent and administered either Renomet or a commercially available herbal formulation at the dose of 1 tablet twice daily for 6 weeks. Patients were asked to report for any side effect during the treatment period. At the end of the trial, patients in the Renomet treated group were found to be symptom free and about 98% of them had passed the stone. Where as in the herbal supplement (CAHP) group only 68% patients had passed stones. The average size of the stone in group A and B at the time of recruitment were 8.88 ± 0.26 and 7.10 ± 0.88 respectively. After 6 weeks of treatment with Renomet Group A), dysuria and hematuria improved in all (100%) and pain abdomen improved in 98.6% cases. In group B, after 6 weeks of treatment with CAHP, pain abdomen was still present in 8.7%, hematuria in 3.26% and dysuria in 14.99% of cases. The average size of the stone reduced to 4.1 ± 0.22 in group A, while in group B the size reduced to 5.56 ± 0.43.

A simple, precise, accurate and reproducible RP-HPLC method has been developed for determination of Valsartan in Tablet dosage form. A Perkin Elmer HPLC series 200 with software Perkin Elmer total chrome navigator was used. The C-18 (Kromasil, 250 × 4.6 mm) having particle size of 5µm was used. The gradient mobile phase was selected consisting of solution A ACN, solution B phosphate buffer of pH 3.5 added few drops of Triethylamine in of buffer solution. The run time of 10 min was selected. The mobile phase composition keep on varying up to the 10 min of run time. The flow rate of 1.0 ml/min was used and Perkin Elmer series 200 UV/VIS detector wavelength was set at 250 nm. The retention time of Valsartan was found to be 5.19 min. The percentage recovery was found to be up to 99% to nearly 100% and percentage RSD was found to be less than 2.0%. Proposed method was validated for precision, accuracy, linearity range, robustness and ruggedness. The method was successfully applied for quantitative determination of valsartan in tablet dosage form.

Reactive oxygen species [ROS] cause oxidative damage to the tissues and protection from such damages are provided by endogenous and exogenous antioxidants. Plant based antioxidants are preferred due to the multiple mechanisms of actions and of the phytochemicals present in them. 80% alcoholic extract of leaves of Aloe vera, Bacopa monniera, Moringa oleifera and rhizome of Zingiber officinale was tested individually and in combination in equal proportion of each extract for DPPH scavenging activity and reducing power. The results indicate that the combination of the extract has better DPPH scavenging action and reducing power compared to the individual plant extract indicating synergistic and supra additive effect of phytochemicals present in the extract.

Catharanthus roseus is widely used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The present study was carried out to investigate the antidiabetic and hyperlipidemic potential of Catharanthus roseus on alloxan induced diabetes in male albino rats. Oral administration of aqueous extract of Catharanthus roseus at a dose of 250 mg, 350 mg, and 450 mg/kg body weight for 30 days to diabetic rats resulted in significant reduction in blood glucose, reduction in lipid profile and also prevented a decrease in body weight. Histological observation demonstrated significant fatty changes and inflammatory cell infiltrates in pancreas of diabetic rats. But, supplementation with Catharanthus roseus to diabetic rats significantly reduced the fatty changes and inflammatory cell infiltrates.

The antibacterial activity of the metal oxide nanoparticles were assessed with well diffusion method. Various concentrations of nanoparticles were analyzed with minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration. Moreover, the potential nanoparticle was also tested with time kill assay. The ZrO2 showed maximum antibacterial activity against Salmonella sp. (15 ± 0.44 mm dia) followed by 12 ± 0.35 mm dia. against E. coli respectively. The MIC and MBC results revealed that, the ZrO2 nanoparticles inhibit the bacterial growth at a concentration of 2.5µg/ml against Salmonella sp. All the nanoparticles showed activity against all the tested pathogens. The time kill assay reveals that, the growth of the Salmonella sp. was inhibited by ZrO2 from the 1st h onwards. It is concluded from the present study that, the ZrO2 nanoparticles could be used as an effective antibacterial agent for the management of poultry systems.
