The cementing of oil wells is done using special cement called ‘’class G cement’’, whose properties should meet the requirements of the American Petroleum Institute (API). Algeria, which ranks high among the oil and gas producing countries, has recently begun production of petroleum cement. The aim of this work is to characterize and evaluate the performance of a locally manufactured cement sample intended for oil and gas well cementing operations in Algeria. In this paper, significant properties (thickening time, compressive strength and free water) as well as the rheological behavior of the cement slurry under specific conditions have been experimentally examined. Apart from the initial consistency, which could be resolved by incorporating additives, the results indicated that the locally produced cement meets the requirements of the API standards and can therefore be used for cementing oil and gas wells.

The consumption of various forms of plastic has been increased in recent days due to the boost in industrialization and other human activities. Most of the plastic wastes are abandoned and require large landfill area for storage. More importantly, the low biodegradability of plastic poses a serious threat to environment protection issue. Various methods have been followed for the disposal of plastic in an attempt to reduce the negative impact of the plastic on the environment. Recently, various types of plastic have been incorporated in concrete to minimize the exposure of plastic to the environment. The aim of this study is to investigate the properties of concrete containing polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic that were used as partial replacement of coarse aggregate (CA). In this study, four compositions of stone aggregate(S): plastic waste ratios have been used by volume basis: 100% S: 0% Plastic (control concrete), 90% S: 10% PET, 90% S: 10% HDPE, and 90% S: 5% PET+5% HDPE. The effects of waste plastic addition on the mechanical properties of concrete are presented in this paper. Test results reveal that minimum reduction in compressive strength has been found 35% in case of 10% PET plastic replaced concrete whereas splitting tensile strength for 10% PET replaced concrete has been increased by 21% while compared to control concrete. In addition, fresh unit weight of concrete containing plastic waste has been decreased by 4% in comparison to control concrete.

Sediment dredging is often confronted with the problem of eliminating the quantities of extracted mud. This issue has given rise to valorization policy in order to provide an alternative to the storage and disposal of dredged sediments. This study concerns the developing of self-compacting concretes (SCC) by substituting partialy cement with sediment dredged from Chorfa dam (Algeria) after being calcined. The results showed that a substitution up to 30% of cement with calcined mud in SCC seems feasible according to the found mechanical performances which were close even better than those of the reference SCC. Moreover, the studied SCC showed very fine porosities which make of them potentially sustainable SCC’s.

Mechanical and structural components are subject in the most cases during their services to random loading. For this reason, it is necessary to reduce the complex history of these kinds of loading in a series of constant amplitude cycles. There are several counting methods that lead to different results. Among all these methods, it is recognized that the Rainflow Cycle Counting method provides the most conservative results. In this paper, a finite elements analysis technique is presented to predict the fatigue life using this method associate with the S-N method which is used for high cycle fatigue applications that makes no distinction between initiation or growing a crack, but rather, predicts the total life to failure. Comparison between numerical and experimental results is considering in this paper.
