Contemporary society in all segments of human action requires continuous innovation, change, refinement. Teaching process innovation is a topic that continues to attract the attention of teachers and teaching theorists. Innovation and modern education must start with teachers. Using words and examples, teachers can teach their students that they can each build their knowledge and take responsibility for their lives. To achieve this, teachers must be given space to identify pedagogical needs, create new practices, measure results, and make their own decisions. The paper looks at the problems faced in teaching practice, which addresses the underutilization of teaching capacities in the processes of innovation of teaching and learning, as well as proposes possible actions to overcome them. It also emphasizes the indispensable role of teachers in all segments of teaching practice innovation.

This Paper explores in what manner the literary-historical and social circumstances connected the poetry of Antun Gustav Matoš and Musa Ćazim Ćatić. Numerous mentions of Matoš and Ćatić in the same literary-criticism and literary-historic context indicate the nterpenetration of poetics of these poets, which we tried to explore on the concrete examples of their poems in a comparative approach. The symbolic interweaving of life topics into the sonnets and poems which marked the Modernist era in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina is specific for both poets. In the poetry of Ćatić and Matoš, modernist poetry appears as a result of the spirit of the times, of the general but also of their individual experience they lived through. It is a result of meeting with European poetry conjunctures but also the inevitability of the „internal“ literary development in the areas of the South-Slavic inter-literary community.

Sport, or sports, is a very important factor in personality formation. Success in sports is often conditioned by a positive outcome, that is, by winning competitions, but also by competitiveness, as the main sporting competition orientation that distinguishes athletes and non-athletes. This research was conducted to identify differences in sports-orientation among younger students of athletes and non-athletes. The research was conducted in seven Tuzla elementary schools. The population from which the sample of 512 respondents was selected was defined as the population of fourth- and fifth-grade students, both sexes, aged 9.4 years. Two sub-samples were formed from the population thus defined. A sub-sample of 328 respondents involved in a particular sport activity (sports games, karate, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, etc., 2-3 training sessions per week), group - athletes. A sub-sample of 184 respondents who do not engage in any sports activity at all, the group - non-athletes. The Sport Orientation Questionnaire (SOQ; Gill and Deeter, 1988) was used as an instrument. The non-parametric Mann - Whitney U test for independent samples was used to determine differences in the answers to the questions asked between the athletes and non-athletes. The results obtained in this study show that athletes score higher on all three subscales than non-athletes, in other words more competitive, more win-oriented and more goal-oriented. From the results of particles with statistically significant differences, it can be seen that athletes are looking forward to competing with athletes (p = 0.04) and training hard to be successful (p = 0.04), do not like to lose (p = 0.04), or give trying their best to win (p = 0.04) and trying to achieve these goals(p = 0.03). This has provided us with important practical information, first of all for classroom teachers, kinesiologists, and later for others working in education, who should be oriented towards encouraging task-orientedness in their students through appropriate strategies and instructions. Such an orientation plays an important role in maximizing student involvement in participating in sporting activities provided by the school and outside the school through various competitions.

Given that storytelling is a student-centered approach that encourages deep and individual learning, the purpose of this research is to encourage more frequent use of storytelling in teaching to make it easier and faster for students to learn and improve their achievements. This research was conducted with the aim of examining the storytelling capacity of students studying education in the Republic of Croatia(the sample consisted of 104 students of the University of Zagreb), and conducting a detailed analysis of the dimensions of storytelling capacity, in order to enable comparison with other research done in the Western culture (USA and Germany) and countries of Eastern culture (China and Vietnam), as well as to explore differences in the perception of storytelling between students belonging to the Eastern and Western cultural traditions, respectively. We also wanted to examine how cultural differences affect this perception. The results of the research are surprising, because it turned out that Croatian students are closest to American students in terms of storytelling capacity, which means that Croatian students are closer to American than German students, although there is a connection with German students but it is not that strong. In relation to the students of Eastern culture, an incredible similarity was found between Croatian students and Vietnamese students in one dimension of storytelling, namely beliefs and convictions.

The aim of this study is to examine the frequency and diversity of discourse markers used by German speakers (L2). The existing studies point to an underrepresentation of these expressions, which represent an essential part of the speakers’ communicative competence and can therefore be directly connected to the development of speech fluency. Fourteen students of German studies at the Faculty of Philosophyin Splittook part in the research. The group performed two slightly different speaking tasks in German (L2). The speech samples were transcribed and analyzed. The results point to a significantly dominant discourse marker und, which was used extremely often for the beginning of an utterance to signal a transition or a sequencing of speech acts. The results obtained also confirm the conclusions of previous studies, indicating a significant underrepresentation of a variety of discourse markers. Based on the obtained data, it seems obvious that formal language teaching should focus on a more explicit teaching of a wider variety of other nativelike discourse markers in order to promote overall speech fluency. Thus, the fundamental educational motive is to increase the level of automation by using discourse markers in L2.

Verbal aspect is a grammatical category that in Bosnian and Italian expresses how the duration of the verbal event is to be conceived. Two basic types of verbal aspect are perfective and imperfective, each having specific nuances, that is, subtypes, which are determined depending on the way the action unfolds and the time frame in which it occurs. There are various ways of expressing the subtypes of perfective and imperfective verbal aspect. In this paper, we have presented the characteristics of iterative aspect, as one of the ways of expressing imperfective aspect. Namely, by contrastive-comparative analysis of examples, we will outline the ways of marking the repeated occurrence of verbal action in Italian translations of Ivo Andric’s Bosnian Chronicle in comparison with the original text, and make conclusions about the similarities and differences in the way of marking this particular nuance of the imperfective verbal aspect in two language systems.

Modern communication surrounding affects directly or indirectly every person or institution in today’s society. The Internet, with the emphasis on social networks, are posing entirely new communication challenges which are difficult but must be answered to. In addition to challenges for individuals, participants in contemporary communication, modern communication society representatives, the institutions, as well, were entrusted with the highly demanding task of keeping up with the times and active participation in the new media surrounding. The demands of the contemporary media surrounding have become even greater for contemporary media environment. In this paper it would be analysed in what way the Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina copes with the challenges of modern communication surrounding.

Educational institutions should be obligated to continually assess an individual’s achievements and potentials. It is important to consider all aspects of children and adolescents functioning in school context. Our education system prioritises school achievement, thus most of planned and realized activities in educational institutions are focused on the cognitive development and fostering academic adjustment. Academic adjustment of students refers to opportunities to successfully carry out tasks and meet the expectations mostly defined by the curricula. It is usually monitored through the students’ performance and is measured by grades. However, social and emotional adjustment is also an important aspect of student functioning in school context, but it is often overlooked considering the education policies in elementary and high schools. Social processes and the child and adolescent functioning dynamics in school context hugely influence their social awareness and social development. Students’ emotional functioning plays an important role in the context of adjusting students in all aspects as well. Emotional difficulties, mostly manifested through psychological distress, anxiety, psychosomatic disorders or depression symptoms, are considered to be one of the most significant issues that obstruct the adjustment and can extensively compromise one’s health. Therefore, education system and its institutions should take more responsibility and enable fostering and monitoring individual’s emotional and social development as well as their personal and social competence. The lack of systemic solutions, which will offer long-term positive effects for improving children’s and adolescent’s mental health, may result in an increasing educational crisis. It is necessary to point out the factors that are potentially jeopardizing emotional and social adjustment of students in school context from the experts’ perspective. Furthermore, it is important to indicate how to prevent and solve the students’ difficulties in all aspects of functioning in school context. Parents, teachers, and peers represent the fundamental factors of socialization that determine the quality of students’ adjustment in the educational context.

This paper deals with examples of surnames motivated by kinship terminologies: families and in-laws, kinship through being godfather (godmother), and blood-brotherhood relationships. The authorconcludes that surnames keeps the origin and variety of the family and in-laws terminology. Then the author discusses the sociolinguistic reason for the expansiveness of the surnames in Bosnia and Herzegovina area. In regard to its morphological structure, surnames could be made without word formation meaning by onimisation as non-suffix surnames, and with word formation or by suffixation.

The paper deals with the research of Croatian emigrants and their attachment to the homeland. The aim of the paper is to investigate whether there is a difference between Croatian emigrants in habits related to their attachment to the homeland, with regard to the country they emigrated to and with regard to sex. The study was conducted on a sample of 587 Croatian emigrants in Ireland (n = 228) and Germany(n = 359) using a quantitative survey method. Survey results show that there are statistically significant differences in the frequency of socializing with other Croatian emigrants, the frequency of visits to the homeland, the monitoring of the Croatian media and the preparation of Croatian traditional dishes, given that the emigrants are in Germany or Ireland, in the way that the emigrants who are less connected to the homeland in Ireland than those in Germany. The study showed that there are no significant differences in the attachment to the homeland when it comes to gender, except in the case of traditional Croatian dishes that women prepare more than men do. Finally, the authors encourage further research into the topic of contemporary Croatian emigration, since such research is lacking.

In the University of Banja Luka, at the Faculty of Political Sciences are studying 20 students with disabilities. Students with disabilities participate equally with other students in the entire activity and work of the Faculty. Existing accessibility to all content and developed forms of social support from higher education activities enable students with disabilities to become involved and social integrated. The research, whose results will be present in the paper, dealt with the basic and social characteristics of students, the forms of social support they receive and its contribution to the social inclusion of students with disabilities. The data were collected by analyzing the files off all students with disabilities (20) and the focus group method on a total of N=10 with disabilities. The results of the research have shown that students with disabilities at the Faculty of Political Science in University of Banja Luka have easier, more difficult and difficult grades physical and sensory impairments. The social support they provide is emotional, informative, and instrumental, as well as support through socializing. The students receive a positive assessment of the received supportive and think that they need to be deepened and expanded, which would increase their involvement and integration.
