Successful viral adaptation of Classical Swine Fever (strain C) to cell culture in order to produce vaccines

Introduction: Classical swine fever (CSF) is a viral, infectious and cross border disease that causes important economic losses worldwide. Systematic and preventive immunization with live attenuated vaccines is pretty useful for its control; among these lapinized vaccines are within the most used. However, ethical limitations surrounding its production obliges bio-pharmaceutical industry to search for alternatives. The aim of this research is to adapt strain C of the CSF virus to a rabbit and pig cell culture. Methodology: rabbit kidney lines (RK-13) and pig’s (PK-15) were used. Both were infected with an homogenous spleen + blood, retrieved from white neo-Zealand rabbits, inoculated with master seed virus (strain C, 4th pass) from lapinized vaccine against the PPC fabricated by LABIOFAM, Cuba. In order to evaluate viral adaptation and replication within cellular lines, during the 23rd passes post-infection, it was identified a fragment of gen that codifies the E2 protein from the CSF virus, through reverse transcription technique –Polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the quantification of infectious viral titles (DICT50 /mL) by immunoperoxidase. Results: lapinidized strain C was adapted to cellular lines RK-13 and PK-15 after 23 successive passes, obtaining in the last one greater levels of viral replication with infectious titles of 105.8 DICT50 /mL. Conclusions: cellular lines RK-13 and PK-15 were susceptible to strain C infection, although PK-15 showed greater levels of viral replication.

Effect of some factors of the production model and the lunar phases on the duration of gestation and sex of the bovine calf

ntroduction: in the livestock sector it is usual to attribute the sex of the offspring that are born to the influence of some external and external factors to the animal. This work explores and supports some evidence on the possibility that these factors have a real association on the sex of the offspring. Methodology: the data recorded through private professional practice by one of the authors for 16 years (2000-2015) in 23 farms corresponding to 18,124 births (1,108 with service registration) were used. The Excel and Panacea 2 programs were used. Significance tests were performed using one-way analysis of variance and chi-square tests in contingency tables. Results: the percentage of females born was lower and there was a farm with a high predominance of the proportion of these. The marked seasonality of births was noted throughout the year. No differences were observed in the proportions of females and males born inherent in the production system or the time of year of birth. Significance was observed for a higher percentage of births in the crescent moon phase, and in this same, a higher proportion of males in the births. The days from lunation to birth did not show differences in the numbers of births and proportions by sex. No differences were observed in the proportions of conceptions by sex due to the lunar phases or days of the lunation at the time of conception. For the duration of gestation, significance was observed in the differences determined by the factors “farm” and “production system”; No influence was observed of the sex of the calf that was gestating or of the variables month, moon phase and lunation day in which both conception and delivery occurred. Conclusions: the percentage of males conceived and born is slightly higher than that of females; None of the factors analyzed can be used to increase the percentage of conceptions of either sex, but an increase in both the total proportion of births and males in the births registered in the crescent moon phase is noticeable.

The aim: This paper is to present a literature review with gastric ulcers syndrome in three horses of Argentine saddle belonging to Fort Asturias Carabineros Floridablanca Santander. Topics: Where a clinical examination, patient assessment through clinical history, anamnesis is made, it be-comes gastroscopy in Agricultural Academic Center that Cooperative University of Colombia, in clinical large animal, is located in the municipality of Piedecuesta, Guatiguará Department of Santander, subsequent biop-sies of the two parts of the stomach lining is done sent histopathology in order to give a more accurate and reliable diagnosis. Development: Gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is a pathology that is on the rise in the equine industry, affecting the two regions of the mucosa of the stomach and proximal duodenum. This disease affects both foals and adult horses. It has a high incidence of disease affecting 53% to 93% of the population. It ́s a multifactorial sy-ndrome, may occur due to intense exercise, high-carbohydrate rations, meals at odd times, stress, continuous use of NSAIDs, transportation, changes in diet, frequent cramps. Conclusions: This clinical study reports not only observed gastritis, gastric ulcers if not in healing, erythema, elevated lesions, and fibrinogen, which corroborate described by each of the authors in literature review.
