The article dwells upon basic constituents of population’s life standard, namely material well-being,living conditions and social environment. The features and problems of each life standard componentare determined, taking into account the specific development of socio-economic processes in modernconditions of managing. It was discussed that under modern conditions there is a sharp decline inthe life standard of a considerable part of the Ukrainian population. Authors determined that thepresence of the work and receipt of wages in Ukraine does not protect from poverty and low standardof living. To survive in modern conditions, households must resort to searching for additional sourcesof income, which often is income in the shadow economy. It is noted that increasing the level of population’s living is the primary goal of any progressive society.
