NÍVEL DE ATIVIDADE FÍSICA E ESTADO NUTRICIONAL EM ESCOLARES DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL

Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the level of physical activity and nutritional status in adolescents from a private school in the city of Cuiabá-MT. Participants were 27 students of both sexes (male n=16, age 12.4±0.9 years) and (female n=11, age 12.5±0.8 years) enrolled between 6 and 9 years elementary school. The level of physical activity was assessed using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C) and nutritional status according to the Body Mass Index (BMI). On average, the percentiles for BMI were at levels of eutrophication, for both boys (74.1±25.8) and for females (54.9±31.5) p=0.09. Regarding the PAQ-C levels were verified sedentary for boys (2.9±0.6) and girls (2.5±0.4) p=0.14, as the time allotted to watch television, was significant difference (p=0.02) between boys (2.6±1.6 hours/day) and girls (1.4±0.8 hours/day). There was a higher prevalence of overweight (n=6, 37.5%) and obese (n=3, 18.8%) in boys than in girls (n=2, 18.2%) and (n=1; 9,1%), overweight and obesity, respectively. Our results also denotes a higher prevalence of physical inactivity among boys (n=10, 62.5%) and girls (n=9, 81.8%). According to the results, it is concluded that the sedentary lifestyle favored major change in the nutritional status of most of the volunteers in this study, thus suggest better control food, as well as the increase in energy expenditure in leisure activities.
