PREVALÊNCIA DE DESORDENS METABÓLICAS NA SÍNDROME DOS OVÁRIOS POLICÍSTICOS

Introduction: The Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is considered the most common endocrinopathy during the women’s reproductive life, with prevalence ranging among 5 to 10% of women of childbearing age. In PCOS, are commonly encountered complications, such as: central obesity, insulin resistance, systemic arterial hypertension risk, dyslipidemia risk, glucose intolerance or type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. Objective: The aim of this review is to assess the prevalence of this and others metabolic disorders, in PCOS patients, and the influence of each of these women’s lives. Bibliography Revision: We reviewed articles published from March 2010 to March 2012, selected by the approach themes related to metabolic disorders prevalent in PCOS. Results and Discussion: We confirmed the prevalence of these disorders in women with PCOS in the reviewed studies and other studies on the same theme. Furthermore, these studies warn of the importance of adopting preventive and therapeutic strategies focused on overweight / obesity reducing and changes in lifestyle, such as adopting healthy diet and regular physical activity. Conclusion: Young women with PCOS have a higher prevalence of BMI> 30, fat centered, IG, DM-2, IR, higher frequency of SMET, elevated SBP and DBP, interconnected, and not have PCOS as a predictor of homocysteine and these disorders affect even women with PCOS with healthy weight, being recommended the regular practice of physical activity and adopting a healthy diet.
