THE REFLECTIONS OF THE RELATIONS BETWEEN ROME-PARTH IN CILICIA PROVINCE IN B.C. I. CENTURY

Province of Cilicia which was established in order to hinder piratical activities in the southern Anatolia has an important place in Rome’s traditional policy of the east and the fact of administrtation. The province spread on the widest borders thanks to the regulations that were made by Pompeius has gained more importance strategically with additions of Apameia (=Dinar), Cibyra (= Gölhisar), and Synnada (= Şuhut) during the governorship of Lentulus Spinther. Especially the east part of the province comprising Cilicia Pedias was the first of the areas where rather complex relations were experienced, and frequent regulations were applied in. B.C. I. Century Rome administration. Undergoing hard times due to the erroneous administration of Rome Governors and the problem of piracy for a long time; the province had been face to face with the danger of Parth due to its being tied to Cilicia Pedias by Pompeius. Being Cicero and Marcus Antonius’ in the first place, Parths have great roles in the regulations made by Rome’s Province of Cilicia administrators. Hence, the subject of this study is the reflections of the relationship between Rome- Parth on the light of Cicero’s letters and ancient sources. With respect to this side, the study includes a general evaluation about historical improvement of Cilicia Province in the context of Rome-Path relations.

THE EVALUATION OF WORKSHEETS IN TERMS OF STUDENTS AND THE EFFECTS OF THEM ON THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE LIFE SCIENCE COURSE

In this study, worksheets are used in teaching the concepts of “Flag” and “Republic” in “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” theme of 3rd grade’s “Life Science” course. In this way, the effect of worksheets on the students' academic success and the students’ views in relation to the worksheets are tried to be uncovered. The population of the study consisted of 3rd grade students in Rize, and the sample of the study consisted of the students of 3A and 3B classes in Köprüköy Elementary School in Ardeşen, Rize.An experimental model with pre-test and post-test control group was used in the study. In addition, the students have been interviewed and content analysis of the findings acquired has been conducted in order to support quantitative data. As a result of the research, it has been found out that worksheets used in “Life Science” course increased the academic success of the students. The results of the interview have revealed that students liked worksheets, and they frequently needed assistance during the activities. The research have also revealed that worksheets which have been found to be contributing in learning, reviewing, and correcting some incorrect information may contribute the course to be likeable and increase the success in the class. In accordance to the results of the study, it has been suggested to extend the use of worksheets at and the different levels and courses; enrich the contents technically by supporting them with visuals; rearrange them in color.

LEVEL OF SATISFACTION OF SEMINARIES AND WORKSHOPS ON RENOVATING GEOGRAPHY PROGRAMMES AND DEVELOPMENTS

This study aims to analyse the level of responses to the expectations from in-service seminars fort he geography teachers related with the renewed geography curriculum and teaching. The participants of the study cover 72 geography teachers who were involved in The Promotion and Evaluation of Renewed Geography Curriculum Workshop, organized by The Directory of National Education in Mersin in March 2010. The data collection tool is a form consisting of five open-ended questions to be applied to the participants in the mentioned workshop. The qualitative approach was used for data collection and interpretation. As a result, the participants were involved in the workshop event so that they could update what the know and be aware of the developments in the field. Geography systems, the changes in the curriculum, teaching principles and techniques, projects for nature education and Project developmentefforts were the major expectations. While the participants find the in-service and workshop events satisfactory, they suggest increasing such events with richer content.
