The article gives a brief overview of some facts related to the personality and work of Dionysius the Divine. It summarizes the information about the Margarit collections of homilies by John Chrysostom, which have become famous in the Slavic manuscript tradition, and lays an emphasis on the most common corpus of 30 homilies preserved in Bulgarian, Serbian and Russian transcripts. It also provides a brief description of the subject matter and ideological orientation of the individual homilies and outlines some characteristic features of the writer‘s idiolect, related to the transmission of the original Greek text – mainly on a morphological, lexical and syntactic levels. The article also focuses on the various opinions of scholars as to whether the Dionysius mentioned in the postscript to the manuscript № 3/8 from the Library of NMRM; manuscript № 45, National Library of Serbia, Plevlja; manuscript. Slav. № 155, Library of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, is identical with the writer Dionysius from The Life of Theodosius Tarnovski by Patriarch Callistus. Some of the opinions cited in the article are opposing as to whether Margarit‘s translator Dionysius Divni is identical with Dionysius – the student of Theodosius Tarnovski. The purpose of the study is not to support one or the other opinion, but to examine individual elements of the writer‘s characteristic translation technique.

The article examines the nominative and the characterizing functions of metaphors in the innovation process at the lexical and the semantic levels of the Russian language at the beginning of the 21st century. It also discusses the manifestation of the metaphorical function in the emergence of semantic innovations on the basis of metaphorization, as well as in the integration of foreign language semantic elements with metaphorical grounds. The simultaneous manifestation of these two functions in the nomination and characterization of the newly-emerged realia at the beginning of the 21st century is traced as well. The function of metaphorical nomination is also considered in connection with the spheres of dissemination of semantic innovations.

This article aims to bring together the critical voices that have accumulated around the work and the figure of the Slovak author Ján Ondruš. The study focuses on the disputes that have arisen among researchers. The confrontational approaches can be grouped around several issues that emerge from the texts of the Slovak poet. These issues are as follows: rewriting his own literary texts, his “schizoid” and “schizophrenic” conditions in light of which critics write about him, and “the fragmentation” of the lyrical subject in his texts. The article aims to summarize the main problems of writing about the author and his poetry and thus facilitate their potential literary-critical solution.

The article presents LanguageCert USAL esPro as a suite of tests that has been developed recently with the aim of evaluating the language skills of non-native speakers who need to use Spanish for professional purposes. The author begins by attempting to examine the existing practice in the assessment of Spanish for specific purposes and then provides a detailed description and an analysis of the exam content and format. The article also highlights the test’s usefulness which results from its reliability, construct validity, authenticity, interactivity, impact and practicality; it does not neglect to mention the adaptive nature, flexibility and transparency of this exam as some of its essential characteristics.

The article explores some of the aspects of George MacDonald’s fairy tale “The Light Princess”, related to the sphere of the unconscious. Using Freudian psychoanalytical theory as a basis, I demonstrate that the author’s words tell us more than they were meant to and that some of them are symbols which, more than thirty years after the publication of the fairy tale, Freud recognised as messengers of the repressed. I first give a brief outline of Freud’s ideas concerning the unconscious; then I discuss in detail the implications of the symbol of falling in “The Light Princess”; lastly, I give several examples of repression as they appear in the fairy tale.

Elin Pelin’s first collected works show a side of the writer we rarely acknowledge, as it ismostly referred to as a “characteristic” of some of his books. In the five volumes of his first collected works he presents himself as an author of cycles. The present paper draws several conclusions from reading those five volumes, from various “mistakes” (made by the publishing house or/and by the press), as well as from the way we perceive his style, his writing, and his capabilities.

The article analyzes the artistic features of the best film adaptations of several works by Ivan Vazov – the novel Under the Yoke and the novellas Characters and Outcasts. It also examines the dialogue between the literary original and the scripts, the cinematic means of expression and the literary techniques. The paper also discusses the director’s concepts and acting achievements in the respective film adaptations.

The study aims at presenting the predicatives of state in linguistic research. The existing descriptions of the predicatives expressing state are analyzed in the context of the semantic typology predicatives with a view of their structure and the scope of the semantic field to which they belong. Several classifications are considered that take into account the semantic and syntactic characteristics of state predicatives, outlining achievements and as-yet-unexplored fields.

This paper examines how the representatives of the Bulgarian and Polish linguocultural community understand hospitality. Focusing on the linguistic picture of the world in both languages (which entails a lingo-anthropological analysis of Bulgarian and Polish phrases, idioms, words, and sayings) we discover some similarities between the Bulgarian and the Polish worldview, linked to the theme of ‘hospitality’. The study also contains a comparative analysis of Bulgarian/Polish and English expressions. The analysis is used to outline some unique features in the fragment of the Bulgarian/Polish linguistic picture of the world we are looking at.

The aim of this article is to examine the easy-to-read legal texts as a means of facilitating the cognitive accessibility of legal language. We begin our study by presenting the characteristics that make the legal language difficult to understand for its addressees non-jurists. Later, the applicability of easy-to-read version to different types of legal texts is considered. Finally, the author proposes a set of practical guidelines on the application of this method in the field of use of the legal language, which are illustrated with examples of foreign experience in thе area.
