The study examines some linguistic errors in the process of learning Bulgarian by Bulgarian-English bilingual children and by native English speakers who study Bulgarian as a second language. The emphasis is on some typical interference errors which are common (identical) for both the bilingual children’s speech and the speech of native English speakers learning Bulgarian as a second language. Based on the analyzed aberration corpus, the opinion we give is that many of the processes taking place during the acquisition of the Bulgarian language are the same for both bilingual children with English and native English speakers.

The present article analyzes the use of connectors as one of the linguistic devices that provide grammatical cohesion to Spanish legal texts. In addition to the theoretical review, the paper offers a didactic proposal to develop an ability to work with the en virtud de connector, which has been designed to meet the needs of teaching legal Spanish to non-native speakers.

The study outlines some of the problems related to the description of foreign elements in cognate languages from the Polish dictionary i.e. Słownik wileński. In borderland areas there are differences specific to Polish, Belorussian, Ukrainian and Russian languages, which come from the Proto-Slavic language community. The article proposes to interpret and specify the semantics of separate lexemes functioning in the eastern borderlands during the 19th century.

Intercultural literary studies in the field of literary scholarship represent a research perspective with a specific theoretical and methodological profile, which is based on two prerequisites: 1) cultural differences can be important in the study and perception of literature, and 2) literature and its reception can reveal these relative differences. In this way culture is interpreted as a category of differentiation, but also as a productive source of exchange, contact, dissemination and integration. Intercultural literary research focuses on specific issues concerning the creation and perception of the literary text, as well as the didactic and methodological aspects of acquiring intercultural competence through it. Literary texts lead, on one hand, to enrichment, curiosity and excitement in students, and, on the other, to the diversification of methodological techniques in foreign language teaching. Literary texts can motivate students and foster their personal development through new methods that not only encourage them to speak, but also inform them about the culturally specific point of view, through the content of the text.

The paper is part of a series of publications that set out to examine various aspects in the analysis of appositive constructions. The purpose of this particular study is to reveal the multidimensional, diverse, and complex interaction between three types of syntactic relations – attributive, predicative, and appositive. The study offers a critical review of various theories on the status of the grammatical relation between the components of non-detached (close) appositive constructions. The main argument of this paper is that determining this status, on the one hand, is a function of the morphological and semantic characteristics of the components of the construction, while, on the other hand, it determines their syntactic status.

This study looks at a small fragment of the Bulgarian linguistic picture of the world related to individualism/collectivism in culture. The linguocultural analysis of various sayings and words in the Bulgarian language proves a close relationship between the individual and the group in the Bulgarian linguistic picture of the world. The linguocultural analysis represents and reinforces linguistic evidence which confirms the hypothesis of a rather collectivistic type of culture in Bulgarian society.

The paper discusses the changes in the Bulgarian lexical system after 1990, and more precisely the relationship between оutdated lexical units and contemporary lexical competence. The research includes a questionnaire given to 300 students (born between 2001 and 2003). The respondents had to explain the meanings of 10 words which are not used anymore or have more than one meaning. The results show that the students are not well acquainted with the semantics of most of the historisms and аrchaisms, which implies low lexical competence with regard to the outdated lexical units.

The present paper examines Russian proper nouns of both masculine and feminine gender, which are derived from a Roman praenomen. Our main goal has been to present these proper names in their entirety, together with their etymology. The excerpted onyms are grouped according to the appellative or the anthroponym from which they are derived. Another classification, based on extralinguistic information about the canonization of proper names, is also included: it takes into account its origin, i.e. when a Russian anthroponym is derived from a saint’s name in the Orthodox or the Catholic tradition, or when it is recognized by and exists in the canons of both churches. A brief review of the proper-noun system in Ancient Rome – and the role of Roman praenomens in it – is also provided. Special attention has been paid to the etymology of the praenomens.

The article examines the ethnic interactions of immigrant Bulgarians, which are present in the literary reflection of Bulgarian authors from the diaspora - mostly Misho Hadzhiiski (Tavria), Nikolay Kurtev and Anna Maleshkova (Bessarabia). Сontent analysis of the artistic and the journalistic writing of Bulgarian migrants has enabled us to determine their significant neighbors, the distance between them, as well as some peculiarities of the relations among them. Tavrian and Bessarabian Bulgarians’ implicit or explicit appraisals of “others” are presented too, and their conscious experience of the ethnic contacts in the “empty foreign land” is justified in the article.

In Jean de Joinville’s text Vie de Saint Louis around King Louis IX’s personality several emotional communities are formed. The most important of them unifies the crusaders of the Seventh Crusade in Egypt. The values in that emotional community are related to King Louis IX’s qualities. Some smaller emotional communities are formed around the king including mainly his interlocutors. The dialogs with the king mentioned in the text and Louis IX’s exploits described by Joinville illustrate the qualities as well as the emotions of the king-crusader as a human and a saint. The personality of Louis IX possesses according to Joinville’s text specific emotionality different from the traditional stereotypes.

The Ierosolymitika are paintings with Biblical content, produced between the 17th and the 19th centuries in Jerusalem. The wealthy Bulgarian pilgrims usually bought several Ierosalymitika each. Jesus Christ’s tomb was painted in the center of each Ierosolymitikon. Invariably, there was an icon of the Theotokos to the left of the central image and another one of Jesus Christ to the right. The rest of the space was filled with scenes from the Old and the New Testaments and with icons of Saints. The author of this article discusses an icon of St. Cyril and St. Methodius she was able to find in one such Ierosolymitikon brought to Bulgaria in the 19th century.

Между кориците на респектиращия и с полиграфическия си дизайн том текстовете са композирани в шест дяла. Всеки от тях е представителен за онези „литературно-теоретични топоси: Яворов, образите на българската памет, литературата и езикът, канона, паратекста, Манделщам“, с които се свързва името на проф. Ракьовски – както обяснява в уводните думи научният редактор А. Вачева.

Като продължение на майските празници на Филологическия факултет във Великотърновския университет „Св. св. Кирил и Методий“ на 27 – 28 юни 2019 г. се проведе международна конференция на тема „Актуални теоретико-методологически проблеми на изучаването и преподаването на славянски езици, литератури и култури II“. Това е втората научна среща на славистичната общност, която е инициирана от Международния комитет на славистите и Комисията за преподаване на славянските езици и литератури. Първото такова събитие беше в рамките на Шестнадесетия международен конгрес на славистите в Белград през 2018 г., а следващото е планирано в Скопие през 2020 г. Целта на тези славистични форуми е да се поставят и търсят пътища за разрешаване на проблемите, пред които се изправя съвременната славистика в областта на различните видове модернизация и дигитализацията на славистичната наука, съпоставителното изследване на взаимните връзки между славянските езици, литератури и култури, стратегиите за оцеляване и развитие на славянските езици и литератури в национална и чуждоезикова академична среда.
