Dhat syndrome is a culture-bound syndrome characterised by inappropriate and excessive distress of losing semen from one’s body and thereby leading to multiple vague psychological and somatic symptoms. It is presumed that several of these symptoms could possibly be of other co-morbid psychiatric disorders. The aim of this study was to assess these co-morbidities with the help of a comprehensive diagnostic tool. Utilizing the purposive sampling technique, a total of 100 patients of Dhat syndrome who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study were enrolled. They were administered Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) to assess co-morbid psychiatric disorders. Overall, 37% of the patients had co-morbidity of at least one psychiatric disorder. Out of these 37 patients with psychiatric co-morbidity, major depression was the most common diagnosis (43.2%) followed by generalized anxiety disorder (16.2%), obsessive compulsive disorder (10.8%), panic disorder (5.4%), alcohol dependence (8.1%), alcohol abuse (5.4%), other substance abuse (5.4%), other substance dependence(2.7%), and social anxiety disorder (2.7%). We concluded that a co-morbidity of various psychiatric disorders is common in patients of Dhat syndrome and it is not only important to consider Dhat syndrome as a distinct psychiatric entity but also to address various psychiatric conditions co-morbid with it for the sake of overall better outcome.

Partograph is the graphic representation of labor and it is used to prevent prolonged labor with its complications. This study is aimed to assess the magnitude and determinants of partograph utilization in hospitals of Western Oromia, Ethiopia, 2017. Institution based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2017 to April 2017 among obstetric care givers working in hospitals. Data was collected through face-to-face interview by using structured-questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS V. 20.0. Logistic regression analyses were used to see the association of different variables. 89.1% of study participants were using partograph during the study period. 83.7% and 92.1% had satisfactory knowledge and favorable attitude on partograph utilization respectively. Factors associated with underutilization of partograph were lack of special training on partograph (AOR = 0.08, 95% CI 0.02, 0.37), lack of local policy on partograph utilization (AOR = 0.08, 95% CI 0.02, 0.36) and having more than 10 deliveries in a day (AOR = 0.11, 95% CI 0.02, 0.65). On the other hand, being female obstetrics care provider (AOR = 4.74, 95% CI 1.22, 20.03) and having ≥ 4 midwives on duty (AOR = 3.20, 95% CI 1.05, 13.51) were positively associated with partograph utilization. This study revealed that knowledge, practice and attitude towards utilization of partograph were below WHO recommendation because of some modifiable factors.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the disease which has reached epidemic proportion worldwide. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is an important and irreversible microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus which is characterized by persistent proteinuria, hypertension and progressive irreversible decline in renalfunction. The present study was carried out to stratify proportion of diabetic nephropathy as reflected by proteinuria, according to duration of diabetes mellitus as well as to identify the possible demographic, anthropometric and hemodynamic risk factors for the development of proteinuria. This crosssectional study was conducted on 74 patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Age, sex, height, weight, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and body mass index was recorded. 4ml of fasting venous blood was collected under aseptic precaution. Proteinuria was assessed semi quantitatively using dipsticks. All data is presented as Mean±SD. Unpaired student t-test was used to compare mean values of continuous variable. Total 37 out of 74 participants showed FPG 126 or more mg/dl out of which 22/37(59.5%) showed no proteinuria but 15/37(40.5%) showed proteinuria. Total 14(18.9%) participants out of 74 were obese out of which 57.1% (8/14) did not have proteinuria while 42.9% (6/14) hadproteinuria. There was clear association seen in frequency of proteinuria with the duration of diabetes. 45% of patients who had diabetes for more than 10 years developed proteinuria as compared to 35.7% and 10% patients who had proteinuria for 5-10 years and less than 5 years respectively. Frequency of proteinuria in type 2 DM patients was 24.32%. Predictors were BMI, FBG and duration of diabetes mellitus. Early measurements should be taken to control obesity, blood pressure and blood glucose to reduce the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy.

Postpartum depression represents a considerable problem affecting women and their families. It may range from mild self limiting depression named postpartum blues to postnatal major depression and psychosis. By doing this study, many of the risk factors can be screened and we can provide intervention in proper time so as to reduce the morbidity. A cross sectional study was conducted in 100 postnatal women. Mothers were interviewed using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) with cut off score of 12. The result was analyzed by using the Chi-Square test. Out of 100 postnatal women included in the study, 13% women were found have EPDS score more than 12. Most of the patients were found to be in the age group of 20-30 years. It was also seen that most women who were educated up to high-school and belonged to joint families, were among the 13%. The most commonly associated factors were low and average family income (p=0.013) and caesarean mode of delivery (p=0.003). The study implies that postpartum depression is highly prevalent and is mostly influenced by the family income and mode of delivery.

Echinococcosis is caused primarily by one of two species of cestodes. Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis. Here we present a case history of 18-year-old non-smoker farmer presented to the OPD with a one month history of moderate grade fever, 8 days history of cough with expectoration and a chest x-ray and CT thorax report suggestive of left upper lobe lung abscess. On routine bronchoscopy, the left upper lobe was seen completely obstructed with folded handkerchief shaped white membranous tissue which aroused the suspicion of a ruptured hydatid cyst. On review of the CT report, the lesion was reported to be a ruptured hydatid cyst and managed accordingly.
