Objective:to determine the relationship between the characteristics of previous sports injuries and pre-competition anxiety in amateur soccer players of the Lima district league. Materials and methods: the study was of a correlational type and cross-sectional design. The sample was comprised of 62 amateur players. The instruments used were the data sheet, which contained questions about the variable characteristics of previous injuries, playing position, occupation, age and sports club; and the CSAI-2R questionnaire that allowed evaluating the state of pre-competition anxiety. Results: the mean age of those evaluated was 22 years, 35.88% occupied the steering wheel position, a higher percentage of injury was located in the lower limb (58.06%), muscle-type injuries and sprain were the most frequent with 56.45% and 22.58%, the severity of the injury with the highest prevalence was mild (45.16%), the mean of the total anxiety score was 39. When relating the main variables, statistical significance was found with the severity of the injury dimension (p=0.02), the players who showed serious injuries had a higher pre-competition anxiety score. Conclusion: there is a relationship between the severity dimension of the injury (variable previous sports injuries) and pre-competition anxiety.
