The article presents the concepts of Uzbek and Azerbaijani playwrights on solving universal problems, the situation of women in the early twentieth century. The article is based on dramatic works – "Yorkinoy" by Abdulhamid Chulpan and "Khayyam" by Huseyn Javid, which reflect the author's view on the issues of women, family and society. Here, special attention is paid to the main characters of dramas, combining and transforming the type of woman both Eastern (born in this environment) and Western (the choice of a life partner by girls). The study is based on the analysis of the actions of Yorkinoy and Sevda, their characteristic features. Female images are represented by emancipated authors, as they act as the ideological and aesthetic center of dramatic works, organizing their plot and composition, being an expression of the author's ideal. The heroines were in the epicenter of the most important problems of their time: social, political, philosophical, ethical, aesthetic, in the solution of which they took an active part. They are united by the desire to be higher than the society around them, the desire to keep up with the times, the passionate dream of happiness. In the creation of images of heroines, playwrights omitted the portrait description, the works do not fix the external features of the girls, which is their distinctive feature, which helps to consider the depth of the inner world of the individual, because each of the representatives is endowed with a certain talent: Yorkinoy masterfully wields a sword, Sevda has a beautiful voice. Also, the author of the article finds differences between the "new woman": in A. Chulpan`s work she is an assistant in state affairs, in G. Javid`s one she is a connoisseur of art.
